THE TENSION arises in the air as Veron says those words. Cielo, on the other hand, lost his calm demeanor as the sweat immediately accumulated on his forehead. He could feel the intimidation of Veron's statement—None felt like a joke.

“How could you make such an insolent threat in front of your daughter-in-law’s father?” Cielo asked, his voice laced with disbelief. “It is not like there is something wrong with my question.”

“If you didn’t find your question insensitive at all, then there must be something wrong with you,” answered Veron in a cold tone, creating more tension between the two of them. “I wish he weren’t dead, but I am no God to decide about that. What I can only do is to protect those who are still alive.”

Cielo remained silent, knowing that Veron was in the process of calming his emotions. Sure, he looked calmer than before, but his eyes said otherwise. Cielo felt like Veron’s eyes would burn with fire at any time.

However, it was not only Cielo who noticed those things

THE REPORTER became astounded, the same as the other ones. Knowing that Damian was right, they suddenly talked to their cameramen to stop filming. They looked at Damian, their expressions mixed with terror and annoyance at the same time.“I know that all of you are reporters, and it is your job to get as many exclusive articles as you can…But that doesn’t mean you can do everything as you please and justify your wrongdoings,” Damian said, looking the reporter who held his arm earlier in the eye. “We are humans, and we deserve to have our privacy, too.”Damian knew that the reporters would not air the conversation on television as it could not only put the reporters at a disadvantage but the broadcasting channels, too. That is why he was confident to say those words; he was safe. There, Damian left the reporters afterward and went to the corner to rest for a bit. Suddenly, Carter, who was silently watching him earlier, approached Damian with his calm yet cold demeanor.“I already aske

“Shit…” Damian cursed, looking at his surroundings this time.He was in the garden where he saw Carson talking to someone earlier, and it was empty and silent. Aside from the blood and Dollie’s phone, he couldn’t find something suspicious.“But I’m sure she is here. My hunch is saying so,” he muttered as he walked around, especially in the corners. There, in one corner which was mostly covered with large plants and bushes, Damian found Dollie lying on the ground. She looked weak and exhausted while her hands were on her stomach.“Dollie!” Damian immediately sprinted toward Dollie without a second thought. “Shit. Your wound is severe.” He pressed his hands toward Dollie’s stomach, hoping that the wound would stop bleeding.“I-I bumped into that sharp thing before I lost consciousness, but when I woke up, I-I noticed that my phone fell far away from me,” Dollie said in a weak and pained tone. “I wanted to ask for help…But no one’s going here. No one can hear me, too…”“It is because you

AS DAMIAN successfully went out of the function hall, he immediately brought Dollie to the hospital. Thankfully, Ethan was too quick to move. An ambulance was already waiting for them even though Damian didn’t ask him to do it. Now, they are in a VIP room, and Damian never leaves her side while Dollie is unconscious. It was only he who stayed for almost twenty-four hours, despite lack of sleep, because he was concerned about her. On the other hand, the rest of the Medivien family members didn’t visit Dollie despite knowing what happened. Cielo only visited for less than five minutes, and immediately left afterward since he said he had some business documents to read and sign. “Business documents? That is bullshit. If he is really concerned about Dollie, he could postpone it or bring his work here,” Damian muttered as he looked at Dollie, and his heart twinged in pain. “Fucking excuses.” A few seconds later, Dollie’s fingers moved, and her eyes opened slowly. “D-Damian?” “Dollie… Y

‘WHY DOES it look like he was going to kill someone with his gaze right now?’ Dollie’s brows furrowed with that realization as she suddenly felt the tension in the air. ‘Is he mad at me?’“Don’t think about shallow things and just rest,” Damian, who was already reading one book from the side table earlier, suddenly spoke. “I’m not mad at you, so close your eyes and sleep.”“H-How did you know that?” Dollie asked, her eyes widening in shock.“I can read that much based on your expression.” Damian held the book tighter with both his hands and his eyes went darker. “I’m mad, but not because of you. If only I had found you sooner, you wouldn’t need to stay in this hospital for so long.”Dollie smiled sadly, seeing how Damian was being consumed by his guilt. “Don’t blame yourself. This is not your fault or mine. I was in the secluded part of the garden and I lost my strength, so I couldn’t call anyone.”“I know.” Damian closed his eyes and breathed heavily. “I’m just glad that I was able

EARLIER, the man saw Dollie arguing with someone important to him, so he asked what Dollie knew about something.“Answer me properly, or you won’t like what I will do to you next,” the man threatened Dollie, his left hand holding onto Dollie’s dress, while his other hand was holding the dagger pointed at Dollie’s stomach. “What else do you know about them?”“I swear, I-I don’t know what you are talking about!” Dollie answered, her voice laced with fear and confusion at the same time.“Wrong.” The man clicked his tongue. Without any warning, he stabbed Dollie in the stomach.“Agghh!” Dollie screamed in pain, but the man immediately covered her mouth so no one could hear them.“I told you to answer me properly, but I guess kids these days don’t know how to listen,” the man said and shook his head. “This will be your punishment for not answering me properly and not respecting someone older than you, Dollie Medivien.”“H-Help…Me…” Dollie muttered as her knees went wobbly. Damian was astounded upon hearing those words. He knew Nicole as a prideful and entitled woman, who would never apologize even though she was wrong.‘But seeing her right now, I think she grew as much as I do. Her presence isn’t very arrogant now unlike when I saw her before,’ Damian thought. And because he was pondering too much, he wasn’t able to respond to Nicole. As Nicole saw Damian’s silence, she thought it was a refusal of her apology. Despite being hurt,“We didn’t have a good impression on our first encounter, and as you stayed here, my only goal was to defeat you. I hated how I remembered my situation just by looking at you, and that is why I hated you so much, but not anymore,” Nicole explained, he

“Damian!” Anya called, smiling ear to ear as she approached Damian. “What took you so long? Don’t you have any idea how long we have been waiting for you?” she added to ask, slightly teasing him.Damian only chuckled as his gaze went to the flowers Anya was holding. “Don’t tell me that it is for me?”“Alright. I won’t tell you,” Anya replied, slightly giggling. “Well, kidding aside…yeah. I asked my people to prepare tons of roses to celebrate your promotion as a full-time employee. Do you know that purple roses symbolize success?”“Now I know.” Damian tried suppressing his smile and acting neutral but failed. Seconds later, he found himself smiling widely as he took the bouquet of roses from Anya’s hand. “This is the only bouquet I will get since I’m not planning to build a flower shop,” Damian jokes, and Anya laughs sweetly because of that. “But I appreciate this. Thank you for giving me a warmhearted welcome like this, Anya.”“It is no biggie. I’m just happy for your success, and

“WHAT is it?” Damian asked, his brows furrowing, and his tone laced with amusement and curiosity at the same time.“Well, it is something you will know soon. Very soon,” replied Dollie in a proud tone. “Anyway, I’m already discharged from the hospital, and I’m going back to school in a couple of days. No need to visit me, okay?”“I will visit you outside your dorm.”“How hard-headed you are. I just said that you don’t need to visit me not long ago.” Dollie chuckled and shook her head, feeling happy that he had someone to treat as an older brother like Damian. “I will stay somewhere in the meantime, so I won’t be in the dorm.”“But I thought you would go back to school in a couple of days?” Damian raised an eyebrow, confused.“I will figure it out, don’t worry. So, stop asking me questions and focus on your work, okay?” Dollie told Damian in a slightly high-pitched tone. “I don’t know that much about the Ferremento Corporation, but their company standards are way higher than ours.”“I

THE hostage-taking Carter did in the warehouse spread in various news channels like wildfire. They were replaced by a management who cared about their citizens, removing the patronage system in the prison, and bringing back justice at the same time.Due to Carter’s crimes being in high intensity, he was transferred to a high-security prison. Carter could only laugh as his mind was still in the past, thinking how rich and powerful he was, even though that wasn’t the case now.Carter had already gone insane, but it was only the beginning of his suffering.“At last, you finally arrived,” Catelyn, who was waiting in Carter’s cell, greeted. “Did you miss me?”“What are you doing here?” Cart

THE lights were flickering, adding tension in the air, as Damian entered the warehouse alone. He doesn’t have any guns or other weapons with him, nor he didn’t call anyone like Carter instructed.Damian was on high alert as he continued walking when suddenly, two men wearing full black clothes started to approach him with their guns.‘Fuck,’ cursed Damian at the back of his mind, seeing how helpless he was right now.Especially after seeing Ava tied to the chair, his mouth gagged, while Catela is sleeping in the crib beside her.Despite the situation, he couldn’t give up. Damian needed to save himself along with Ava and Catela and end this fight with Carter so it wouldn’t repeat. The two men tied Damian’s hands and feet to the chair, but unlike Ava, they didn’t gag him.“It is so unusual to see how obedient you are. I never thought you could do it,” Carter, who appeared from the shadows, smirked upon seeing Damian being helpless. “That’s right. They will always be safe as long as you

“That was not enough for all the bullshit you did to me before. But for now, let’s call it even," Damian said.Carson only shook his head as he wiped the blood on his lips before leaving the house. And the only thing that was running through his mind was how strong Damian’s punch was… before until now.THE NEXT morning, Carson didn’t just confess what he did to the board members, but he conducted a press conference to publicly apologize to Damian. He knew that Damian deserved to clear his name and regain his reputation, and although his public apology wasn’t enough, he still did it to show his sincerity.“Starting today, Carson Ferremento is now terminated as the CEO, and will face two years of suspension because of him ruining the Ferremento Corporation’s reputation,” Piper announced, her tone colder than usual. “The position will go back to Damian Giovanni Ferremento.”Carson smiled sadly, but he knew he needed to accept the consequences of his actions. However, since Damian had a

“That bastard. He told you that even though you have a husband?” Carson asked, his teeth gritting.“Well, this is just an arranged marriage, and he knows it.” Ava shrugged. “To be honest, I would marry a man like him although he isn’t the richest, than stay with a puppet like you, who only knows how to follow someone else—”“Here,” Carson interjected, giving Ava the signed papers. “I will let you take Catela because I need to deal with something, but I will take her away from you once I'm done.”“Hah. As if I will let you do that.” Ava scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Thank you for this, Carson. Catela will benefit so much from this.”And as if Ava was waiting for this to happen, when she went again to their bedroom to take Catela, she already had her luggage with her and was talking to someone.“Yes, he already signed the divorce paper, and I’m all set…” Ava said, smiling from ear to ear. “Oh, your bodyguard is outside the house already? After Carter went out of the house unnoticed, that was the only time Carson could breathe properly. He didn’t even realize he was suppressing his breath because of fear.‘Is that really the brother I used to be with ever since I was a child?’ Carson thought, his heart racing, as he leaned into a tree. ‘We are family. Why would he threaten me like that? Is the company and the organization more important to him than me?’And upon asking himself that question, Carson got his answer. Carter wouldn’t mind killing everyone who would be a hindrance to his plans, and he is not an exemption. His gaze went to the house—Something he had because of Carter. Everything he had was him, not giving Carson any chance to carve out his own identity. He was only known for his surname, and for all his careless actions when he was in teenager days. The only thing he had that wasn’t connected with Carter was Dollie, whom he took for granted, and now his family; Ava, his wife, and Catela, their child.“Ava,”

Realizing that Damian needs him right now, Veron took his phone and called a number. It was someone he thought he would never talk with again.“Veron,” Charlie Wiles, the CEO of the Legion Mercenaries, called. “It has been a long time, huh? What do you need this time?”“I have to ask you for a favor,” Veron replied.“A favor?” Charlie raised an eyebrow. “If it is about our operations, I’m sorry, but I need to decline. You know that we can’t take clients in other countries other than Colossia, right?”“I know that. You are not taking me as a dumb person, aren’t you?” Veron shot back, his voice laced with irritation now. “I need someone I trust to do this task for me, and I’m willing to pay any amount you want for it.”“Any amount, huh? Talking to rich people is different.” Charlie chuckled on the other line, yet he became serious afterward. “But alright, deal. What is it that you want me to do?”“I want you to find Correl Ferremento’s location and kill him,” Veron commanded, his tone s

“Carson,” Damian called as his eyes darkened in anger. “It is you, isn’t it?”“If you are asking about the new CEO of this company, yes. It’s me,” Carson answered, smirking, as he placed the documents he brought to the table. “Why? Are you surprised that a person who was once a happy-go-lucky like me would be chosen to replace you?”“Why would I be surprised if you planned everything for this to happen?” Damian shot back, the annoyance evident in his tone. “Seeing you in front of me now just strengthens my hunch. It was you who messed up with the data. How could you?”Carson’s smirk widened. He didn’t answer. Instead, he stood proudly in the middle with his arms folded.“I’m not here because of the shitty things you accuse me of, but because I have given the board of directors a proposal strategy that you can’t provide.” Carson slid the document in front of Damian. “Here. Look at this.”Damian didn’t move at first, but a few seconds later, he took the folder and looked at its contents

“Young master,” James, whom Damian called, answered on the other line. “Young master Carson is still doing his old routine; working in his office the whole day and going home afterward.”“How certain are you?” Damian asked.James’ brows furrowed, but he still answered in a polite tone, “I’m always monitoring him, young master. I didn’t even let him out of my sight.”“I know, but something might have happened that slipped your notice,” Damian said, his tone low and serious. “The Ferremento Corporation is in chaos right now, and I’m sure Carson is involved with it. I need you to think carefully.”James obliged. The tip of his brows pressed harder on each other upon recalling the surveillance, and his lips widened as he remembered something.“There was one incident. A few days ago, Miss Ava Medivien bumped into me and caused a commotion. For a moment, I lost sight of young master Carson’s office,” confessed James. “But it was only for a few seconds.”“And that is the only amount of time t
