WHEN DAMIAN woke up, he was already in a small room. It was dark and quiet inside. There were not enough lights to see the whole place, but the moonlight was enough to see the people surrounding Damian.

They looked cruel, not to mention that they were carrying different weapons. Some were holding baseball bats, while some were holding knives.

‘How did they even have those weapons here?’ Damian thought, his brows furrowing. ‘The killer had a connection even inside the prison, too?’

“What’s with the expression? Are you afraid that we will kill you using the weapons we have?” Ricardo, the gang leader of the team in front of Damian, asked. “Don’t worry, we are instructed not to do it, but we had permission to hurt you.”

Ricardo and his team laughed devilishly as they raised their weapons. Of course, they weren’t going to use it on Damian. It was just a prop to instill fear in Damian, which they thought they instilled successfully.

But they were shocked when Damian smirked, despite being a

RICARDO AND his team laughed as if Damian’s question was the most ridiculous thing they heard.“Carson Ferremento? Why would we work for a rich asshole like him?” Ricardo asked, smirking mischievously, yet his eyes were glaring with anger. “Those people only know how to degrade someone, so why would we be associated with him?”Hearing Ricardo’s answer, Damian shook his head, realizing that one of his hunches was wrong. ‘The group which had a red snake tattoo isn’t exclusive only to the Ferremento family.’Little did Ricardo know that when he lifted his shirt, Damian saw something carved on his right waist. It was also a red snake tattoo, which made him think of something else.‘An enemy organization… Could it be them?’ asked Damian at the back of his mind, remembering what Veron said to him before. ‘But why would my adoptive mother be a part of it?’“Hey, hey. Stop dilly-dallying now and focus on me,” Ricardo said as he opened the lighter again, its brightness illuminating in the room

WITHOUT EVERYONE knowing, the savior was able to bring Damian to the nearest empty room without being harmed. He knew the shortcuts and exits to the prison, so they weren’t able to encounter the other police as he was escaping Damian out of the room with fire. He lay Damian, who was between waking up and fainting, on the floor. He made sure that Damian would breathe some fresh air after being suffocated for a few seconds. “You didn’t inhale a lot of smoke, but you looked traumatized, Sir,” the man wearing a police uniform said, his tone laced with worry. “You are safe now. Look at your surroundings. There is no fire here.” Damian’s mind was still in a haze, but he could hear the police officer’s words. He obliged and scanned his surroundings. ‘He is right. I’m safe now,’ he thought, followed by a sigh of relief. He sat on the ground, his right hand placed on his forehead, slightly massaging it. He was much better than before, thanks to the man who saved him. “Are you one of my fath

IT IS RARE for Damian to beg for someone’s help. Even when he was asking Anya to join a partnership with the Mid-Century Elegance Events before, instead of trying to persuade her, he used the favor he did for Anya before so that Anya would grant him a favor, too.But now, it is different. If he tries moving on his own, it would be almost impossible for him to accomplish something; worse, it will be harder for him to get out of this prison.“What, Sir? Protect you from being framed up?” Gerald asked, his eyes widening in shock. “Before you went here, I had met some people who had the same case as you, and some of them were even convicted of the death penalty. However, I wasn’t able to help them.”“But you didn’t let that happen recently. You did your best to save me from that fire. Without you, I would be burned alive and dead by now,” Damian replied, his tone sincere. “You shouldn’t belittle yourself just because you failed in the past. Try to look at your achievements, too.”“I don’t

A FEW HOURS later, while resting on the clinic bed, Damian suddenly felt dizzy. He wasn’t feeling like that earlier, so he was confused. It felt like he wanted to sleep although it was just seven o’clock in the evening.“I will not accept any visitors for tonight, although I doubt I will have one,” Damian said to the nurse, who was checking his vitals before clocking out for this day’s shift. “If the prison guard who saved me earlier comes here, tell him to just come back in the morning. I’m not feeling well.”“Alright. I will lock the door when I leave,” the nurse replied while fixing the sphygmomanometer to the side. “Anyway, there is something wrong with your vitals today. You have a rapid heartbeat, and looking at it, you are also pale. Do you feel any pain in your body right now?”“No.” Damian shook his head. “I just think I need to rest. Maybe I ate too much earlier,” he added. The nurse wasn’t satisfied with his answer, yet she nodded. “I understand. Just take a rest, and you w

DAMIAN WAS stunned after hearing the nurse’s warning, but he immediately regained his composure upon realizing that the one who placed something on his food was still watching them. And he wasn’t wrong. True to the nurse’s words, Damian saw a man figure peeking outside the clinic. At first, he couldn’t see clearly who it was, but when he focused his eyes on it in a subtle way, he found out who the man was.‘He is one of Ricardo’s people… The man who hit my nape when I lost focus, causing me to be unconscious,’ said Damian at the back of his mind, clenching his hands under the blanket. ‘So, they would try to kill me for the second time, huh?’“Alright. Thank you,” Damian said, smiling, as he watched the nurse leave the room. “Ah, people here are so nice,” he said as he happily dug into his food… except for the dish pointed out by the nurse earlier.“That nurse is also one of your accomplices, then,” Jonathan suddenly spoke, causing Damian to snap back to reality. “Thank you for the inf

DAMIAN SHOOK his head in response. He looked at Jonathan, and the disappointment was evident in his eyes. “I gave you a chance to run away, but you chose to break my trust instead of saving your life. How foolish,” he said as he sat on the hospital bed and placed the knife, which was now full of blood, on the table. “Some people really do take advantage of one’s kindness and stab them in the back, isn’t it?”He smirked wickedly after saying those words. However, it faded when his gaze moved toward his hands which were covered with blood, and some of it also stained his shirt. There, Damian realized something. It was his first time to kill someone. His heart raced fast, and his breathing was ragged. His disappointment was suddenly converted into fear, anxiety, and strangely, a little sense of accomplishment.Although it was unintentional, a little guilt and fear were creeping into his body.‘If I didn’t kill him first, I would be the one lying dead on the ground right now,’ said Dami

“I ALREADY listed your statement here, and I will submit it for further investigation,” the police officer said and closed the notebook in front of her. “However, based on your statement, knowing that you participated in a fight on the first day of your stay here, it is highly likely that you will get a punishment for it. Are you sure you won’t change anything in your statement now?”“I won’t,” answered Damian without any hesitation. His eyes were cold, the same as the tone of his voice. The police officer went silent for a few seconds. After pondering, she stood up and spoke, “Thank you for your cooperation. You may go now.”Damian only nodded in response before walking outside the interrogation room. The female police officer, on the other hand, went to the restroom a bit. She took her other phone and called someone.“Good morning, Sir,” she greeted, her tone polite yet low; her voice was almost in a whisper. “I just finished getting Mr. Smith's statement about Ricardo's attempt to

“YOU WERE just discharged from the clinic after fighting on your first day in prison, yet you are fighting against him again?” the police officer asked, looking at Damian in disbelief. “What kind of a troublemaker are you to cause a fight for the second time?”Damian didn’t answer. Instead, he just shrugged and placed both hands in his pocket.“And you! Why are you beating him up to death?” the female police officer said, giving Ricardo a deadly glare this time. “You might be punished because of this! I thought you didn’t want to have solitary confinement anymore.”“It is Damian’s fault,” Ricardo replied, pointing at Damian as the side of his lips rose, trying to pin everything to Damian on purpose. “He was the one who blocked my way when I went out of the recreation area for a bit. He insulted me first, even though I'm not doing anything against him.”The police officer’s glance moved to Damian, her eyes narrowing. “Is that true?”“Look at his expression. He wasn’t even regretting wh

    Epilogue: The Last Retaliation

THE hostage-taking Carter did in the warehouse spread in various news channels like wildfire. Everyone was shocked because of his sudden escape from prison, making the residents afraid for their safety, knowing that the management wasn’t doing their job properly to monitor the prisoners. With that, the warden and his apprentices, who were also under Carter’s authority, were fired from their jobs. They were replaced by a management who cared about their citizens, removing the patronage system in the prison, and bringing back justice at the same time.Due to Carter’s crimes being in high intensity, he was transferred to a high-security prison. Carter could only laugh as his mind was still in the past, thinking how rich and powerful he was, even though that wasn’t the case now.Carter had already gone insane, but it was only the beginning of his suffering.“At last, you finally arrived,” Catelyn, who was waiting in Carter’s cell, greeted. “Did you miss me?”“What are you doing here?” Cart

THE lights were flickering, adding tension in the air, as Damian entered the warehouse alone. He doesn’t have any guns or other weapons with him, nor he didn’t call anyone like Carter instructed.Damian was on high alert as he continued walking when suddenly, two men wearing full black clothes started to approach him with their guns.‘Fuck,’ cursed Damian at the back of his mind, seeing how helpless he was right now.Especially after seeing Ava tied to the chair, his mouth gagged, while Catela is sleeping in the crib beside her.Despite the situation, he couldn’t give up. Damian needed to save himself along with Ava and Catela and end this fight with Carter so it wouldn’t repeat. The two men tied Damian’s hands and feet to the chair, but unlike Ava, they didn’t gag him.“It is so unusual to see how obedient you are. I never thought you could do it,” Carter, who appeared from the shadows, smirked upon seeing Damian being helpless. “That’s right. They will always be safe as long as you

“That was not enough for all the bullshit you did to me before. But for now, let’s call it even," Damian said.Carson only shook his head as he wiped the blood on his lips before leaving the house. And the only thing that was running through his mind was how strong Damian’s punch was… before until now.THE NEXT morning, Carson didn’t just confess what he did to the board members, but he conducted a press conference to publicly apologize to Damian. He knew that Damian deserved to clear his name and regain his reputation, and although his public apology wasn’t enough, he still did it to show his sincerity.“Starting today, Carson Ferremento is now terminated as the CEO, and will face two years of suspension because of him ruining the Ferremento Corporation’s reputation,” Piper announced, her tone colder than usual. “The position will go back to Damian Giovanni Ferremento.”Carson smiled sadly, but he knew he needed to accept the consequences of his actions. However, since Damian had a

“That bastard. He told you that even though you have a husband?” Carson asked, his teeth gritting.“Well, this is just an arranged marriage, and he knows it.” Ava shrugged. “To be honest, I would marry a man like him although he isn’t the richest, than stay with a puppet like you, who only knows how to follow someone else—”“Here,” Carson interjected, giving Ava the signed papers. “I will let you take Catela because I need to deal with something, but I will take her away from you once I'm done.”“Hah. As if I will let you do that.” Ava scoffed and rolled her eyes. “Thank you for this, Carson. Catela will benefit so much from this.”And as if Ava was waiting for this to happen, when she went again to their bedroom to take Catela, she already had her luggage with her and was talking to someone.“Yes, he already signed the divorce paper, and I’m all set…” Ava said, smiling from ear to ear. “Oh, your bodyguard is outside the house already? Alright. I will let him in.”Ignoring Carson, Ava

    Chapter 333: History Repeats Itself

After Carter went out of the house unnoticed, that was the only time Carson could breathe properly. He didn’t even realize he was suppressing his breath because of fear.‘Is that really the brother I used to be with ever since I was a child?’ Carson thought, his heart racing, as he leaned into a tree. ‘We are family. Why would he threaten me like that? Is the company and the organization more important to him than me?’And upon asking himself that question, Carson got his answer. Carter wouldn’t mind killing everyone who would be a hindrance to his plans, and he is not an exemption. His gaze went to the house—Something he had because of Carter. Everything he had was him, not giving Carson any chance to carve out his own identity. He was only known for his surname, and for all his careless actions when he was in teenager days. The only thing he had that wasn’t connected with Carter was Dollie, whom he took for granted, and now his family; Ava, his wife, and Catela, their child.“Ava,”

Realizing that Damian needs him right now, Veron took his phone and called a number. It was someone he thought he would never talk with again.“Veron,” Charlie Wiles, the CEO of the Legion Mercenaries, called. “It has been a long time, huh? What do you need this time?”“I have to ask you for a favor,” Veron replied.“A favor?” Charlie raised an eyebrow. “If it is about our operations, I’m sorry, but I need to decline. You know that we can’t take clients in other countries other than Colossia, right?”“I know that. You are not taking me as a dumb person, aren’t you?” Veron shot back, his voice laced with irritation now. “I need someone I trust to do this task for me, and I’m willing to pay any amount you want for it.”“Any amount, huh? Talking to rich people is different.” Charlie chuckled on the other line, yet he became serious afterward. “But alright, deal. What is it that you want me to do?”“I want you to find Correl Ferremento’s location and kill him,” Veron commanded, his tone s

“Carson,” Damian called as his eyes darkened in anger. “It is you, isn’t it?”“If you are asking about the new CEO of this company, yes. It’s me,” Carson answered, smirking, as he placed the documents he brought to the table. “Why? Are you surprised that a person who was once a happy-go-lucky like me would be chosen to replace you?”“Why would I be surprised if you planned everything for this to happen?” Damian shot back, the annoyance evident in his tone. “Seeing you in front of me now just strengthens my hunch. It was you who messed up with the data. How could you?”Carson’s smirk widened. He didn’t answer. Instead, he stood proudly in the middle with his arms folded.“I’m not here because of the shitty things you accuse me of, but because I have given the board of directors a proposal strategy that you can’t provide.” Carson slid the document in front of Damian. “Here. Look at this.”Damian didn’t move at first, but a few seconds later, he took the folder and looked at its contents

“Young master,” James, whom Damian called, answered on the other line. “Young master Carson is still doing his old routine; working in his office the whole day and going home afterward.”“How certain are you?” Damian asked.James’ brows furrowed, but he still answered in a polite tone, “I’m always monitoring him, young master. I didn’t even let him out of my sight.”“I know, but something might have happened that slipped your notice,” Damian said, his tone low and serious. “The Ferremento Corporation is in chaos right now, and I’m sure Carson is involved with it. I need you to think carefully.”James obliged. The tip of his brows pressed harder on each other upon recalling the surveillance, and his lips widened as he remembered something.“There was one incident. A few days ago, Miss Ava Medivien bumped into me and caused a commotion. For a moment, I lost sight of young master Carson’s office,” confessed James. “But it was only for a few seconds.”“And that is the only amount of time t
