Our Little Family

The hospital room was filled with the soft hum of machines, and the occasional distant chatter of nurses and doctors. Laura lay in bed, her face pale, but her eyes filled with light. Beside her, Christopher sat in a chair, his hand gently holding hers, providing a reassuring grip in the midst of the chaos otherwise known as the hospital.

Just as they were settling into a moment of quiet, Christopher's phone buzzed with an incoming call. It was Mr. Davies. With an apologetic glance at Laura, Christopher stepped out of the room to take the call.

"Mr. Davies," Christopher said, his voice weary but appreciative. "Thank you for calling. I apologize for not having made any progress on your new home. There have been unforeseen circumstances that arose in my personal life, and because of them, I've not been able to even step into my office."

Mr. Davies' voice, usually warm and hearty, was filled with concern. "Christopher, my boy, what happened? Is everything alright?"
