Memphis returned home from the event with his father and grandfather in the carriage. "Hahahahahaha!! that was a good one boy! You sure gave that arrogant firehead a seizure!" roared Arius Lerain in laughter. His son also joined him and very soon the carriage was filled with boisterous laughter. "You've really improved Memphis, I'm proud of you. When we arrive home, I'll give you a gift," said Arius Lerain, patting Memphis' back. "Okay Grandfather," Memphis replied with a smile.

They finally passed through the gates of the Lerain mansion.

It was the next morning when Memphis finished his daily training routine and had taken a good rest. He took the book which his grandfather had gifted to him from his bookshelf and opened it. As soon as he glanced through the contents, Memphis' eyes went wide in shock. This was a heaven sent gift and the one he had been waiting for! The book contained a detailed explanation and analysis on how Mage soldiers should combine their physical capabilities with their spells and mana for a maximum output. In the book were diagrams of various poses, stances and ways of exercise which would bring out the Mage soldier's physical strength and the best variations to combine both his spells and body with. The book was so detailed that Memphis had no trouble understanding what was written. It had clear and accurate diagrams which described each objective thoroughly. This was exactly what Memphis was looking for as his punches and kicks though powerful, lacked finesse and were simply wasteful. Instea

  • The Favoured Son of Heaven    What kind of Broken luck is this?

Memphis had exited from the beast plane and his mind space. He now held his summoned beast in his arms, a weak red and gold bird. One would ask, why would a noble of Memphis' caliber contract such a weak summon? The answer was that he had sympathy for the poor bird as it reminded him of his life back on Earth; the sorrow, the pain, the hurt and above all the loneliness he experienced. In the same way this bird seemed abandoned, probably left to die by its parent because it might not have been strong enough. Why else would a bird in such a state be left in such a small cave? The law of the jungle was harsh and only the strongest could survive. Had it not been for the light it gave off, Memphis wouldn't have even known there was something like that there. It was left with the last part of the contract which required him to give a name to his summon. "Hmm, what name will be suitable for it?" he thought deeply. After some time of pondering, he decided to name the bird Scarlet because of

  • The Favoured Son of Heaven    Acquiring Practical experience

Memphis had diligently focused on the training of his body and mind so much so that he was confident of fighting a low level Advanced Mage. The book his grandfather gave him as a gift had helped him out so much and he had mastered the breathing Technique in the book, also perfecting his stances and seamlessly combining his magic with his body. Now Memphis thought it was high time he gained practical experience. Even though his family had doted on him, getting him the required resources for his training and getting him the best teachers in the kingdom, Memphis knew that he had to acquire practical experience not just training. After all, he knew that many nobles in those webnovels, even though powerful lacked practical experience and as such, they froze up in the face of danger. No training dummy could compare to the challenge of facing a sentient beast to fight with. Memphis wanted to hone his skills on the beasts so that by the time it was time for him to go to the Magic academy, he

Meanwhile Memphis and Arudiz entered the forest and Arudiz spoke. "I won't interfere with your little adventure and I will suppress my aura so beasts won't run away and you can hunt to your heart's content. Remember this though; be alert and watchful, most beasts are very cunning. I won't interfere until it reaches a critical point where you can't fight back. Until then," Arudiz left him hanging and vanished.Memphis was happy about this. At least he could go all out without worrying about the consequences. Nevertheless, he wasn't that foolish to waste his mana unnecessarily as that would cost him in real battle. The forest at the outskirts of the capital was called the Mavelis Forest. It was home to many beasts and spanned over a wide area, extending to as far as the borders of the neighbouring kingdom. Due to its size, the kingdom regularly sent a team of Mages to thin down the number of the beasts to prevent a Beast Horde. In Balvan, Beast hordes were one of the worst disasters to

"I'll come with you," said Hector. Phinehas and the trio were preparing to leave for the caves and Hector wanted to go with them. It was a perfectly logical idea.Besides, the kidnapped kids would tend to recognize the village chief more than the Phinehas and the trio."Okay. Who will look after the village though?" asked Phinehas. "Old Zayn will help out in my absence," replied Hector. Phinehas nodded and looked at Memphis. Memphis shrugged. It was fine by him. An extra Mage wouldn't hurt especially when they were facing the likes of a general level creature. Hector took one last look at his wife. She tried to meet his gaze but glanced downwards, unable to look at her husband. Breathing heavily, Hector stood up and followed Phinehas and the trio. Old Zayn looked at Hannah. "You know that Hector loved you very much? why would you choose to hurt him so?" he asked.Hannah sniffled. "I had no choice," she replied, unable to meet the old man's gaze.**Memphis, Ralph, Cathy, Phinehas an

Stu Harper was a very smart kid. Even without anyone telling him anything, he was somehow able to deduce why Hannah, the chief's wife was being stared at like that.He was in a state of shock. Who would have suspected the chief's wife to be kidnapper? Unfortunately it was the truth. He felt very lucky.Stu remembered the times that be and other kids in the village will recieve sweets from the chief's wife. All the kids in the village liked her. How could she do this? Stu could not fathom it.Memphis sighed. He was surprised too. Of all the analysis and deductions he had made, he had never included the chief's wife. Memphis remembered a term in the police circles back on earth. They always said, don't put a crime past anyone. From a child to a an old man, any could be a potential criminal. This situation had confirmed it.Of course, the ones who were shocked the most were Old Zayn and Hector. Old Zayn heavily sat on the ground and kept muttering. Hector meanwhile kneels before his wife

    Culprit

The masked woman clicked her tongue in annoyance. She had been tricked by the boy and was now standing on a movement restriction formation. There were many kinds of formations. The basic ones required the Mage to draw the circles and diagrams of the formation along with runes. This was a very tiring process as the drawn formation had to be inch perfect. If there was a lopsided circle, a wrong rune or any outside interference, the rune was bound to spoil. There was another type though which belonged to the rich and elite. This was called an irregular formation. Thus, the formation has already been made and the only thing a person needed to do was to get someone to activate the properties by stepping on it. In terms of space or coverage area, hand drawn formations were the best. Some could span as wide as 100 meters. Irregular formations though were movable and had less chance of failing as the formation had already been made expertly. Chief Hector had long noticed the signal and be

"Whoever is behind this has seriously crossed the line!" Hector fumed. It was almost midnight but he and his wife couldn't sleep. How could they sleep when their only child was kidnapped? You may not understand it until you become a parent yourself. The pain of losing a child and an only one at that was far painful than any form of cruel torture inflicted on the parent. Whether Benjamin was alive or dead, not seeing him for the past hours had been very tough for his parents.Hannah had regained her composure but she sat quietly on the bed, hugging her knees. Earlier, after the trio had gone to bed, he had to go out of the village to unwind, leaving behind fiery destruction before he calmed himself down. After a pause of silence, Hector spoke in a grave tone."I have to go to the city and request the services of a more powerful mage than I," "No that's dangerous. "Hahahaha, the idiot didn't kill me," Laren laughed weakly as he regained consciousness again. The sun was high in the sky, beating down upon him with a vengeance which made his wounds hurt more. His clothes had been destroyed, with a little more than rags covering him. His long hair stood on end while huge cuts and burn marks were all over his body. The greatest damage though was his chest area which had recieved the direct impact of the spell.Had it not been for Laren's high level, clothes which could take the attack of a Commander beast and a defensive artifact coupled with a chaos spell, he would have died from the attack.Every inch of Laren's body was racked with pain as he feebly tried to rise but collapsed again. The only good thing about the attack was that it had not crippled him. Of course, the women who spotted them earlier on came to check on them to see if they were alright.Memphis and Ralph willingly helped out Hector by accompanying him and other men in the village to the small wood to gather sticks and twigs as firewood for the household. They were used by the part time maid who came regularly in the mornings and noon to prepare food. Whenever the chief took Memphis and Ralph there, he and the other men entered the nearby woods as he was confident that the two could at least defend themselves with magic. Besides, the village was not far off and the boys could reach there in no time.Due to this, Memphis and Ralph had long gotten the pieces of wood needed.
