Mana was the energy in which mages used to cast their spells. Thus, the more mana one had, the more powerful spells he will be able to cast. A mage without mana was like a gun without bullets; both wouldn't be that useful to anyone. Thus, all mages tried to increase their mana capacity to allow them to become more powerful.
Memphis stood in front of the white mana crystal. Taking a deep breath, he place both hands on it and closed his eyes. "Concentrate on your magic," said Arius Lerain to Memphis. Memphis ignored everything and focused on himself like he had been taught. Slowly, there was a light blue glow emanating from the crystal. Irias Lerain took out a small device and held it near the crystal. Numbers started to appear on the device as the crystal continued to increase in intensity. The room was solemn as everyone waited hopefully. After all if you had four elements with gold Affinity but didn't have much mana to support it, you would be lacking in terms of strength."10 units," said Irias Lerain aloud. Donlan nodded and said, "Not bad, it has reached the normal mana capacity of Beginner mages," but Loyce countered him by replying, "You forget the number of elements he has. He needs at least 40 units to be able to utilize them." The other Lerains nodded in agreement. Many mages with two and three elements had not been able to advance in magic due to their low mana capacity. They did not wish for that to happen to Memphis as he had four elements of which he had gold Affinity for all of them."20 units," said Irias again. Arudiz looked on in interest. He knew that Memphis was going to be spectacular right from birth but he didn't expect it to be this spectacular. "If he manages to make 50 units, he'll be alright, he muttered under his breath, looking at the young boy holding the white crystal with a focused mind. Annie Lerain was Memphis' cousin and the daughter of Loyce. She was 11 years old with two elements, Light and Blessing. Right from the start, she had been shocked by her cousin's talent and affinity. She was genuinely happy for her cousin and wished he had a higher mana capacity than her as she had 37 units during her Awakening.Five minutes had passed and the room was tense as Irias had stopped giving out the number of units like he was doing previously. The reason was that he was stunned. He almost couldn't believe his eyes at how high the mana capacity was and how it kept increasing. The others were watching him waiting for him to say something but he just continued to stare at the device in his hand. Finally, Maureen couldn't take it anymore and snapped at her brother. "Are you just going to stand there and keep us in suspense or what?" she asked in annoyance. As if rousing from slumber, Irias shook his head and rubbed his eyes. "75 units," he said.Immediately, there was an uproar in the room. "WTF!??! That's as high as that of a peak Intermediate Mage!" exclaimed Philip. "And he is only at the Beginner Mage level!" said a shocked Loyce. Arius couldn't stop grinning. "That's more like it," he thought. This was a shock to them. Mana capacity was measured in units. From 1 to 34 units was Beginner Mage mana capacity level, 35 to 80 was Intermediate Mage mana capacity, 81 to 150 was Advanced Mage mana capacity and so on. Mana capacity increased as the Mage advanced in magic. This means that a Mage with Intermediate mana capacity at the beginner level will have an Advanced mana capacity when he reaches the intermediate level. Thus, if Memphis' mana capacity continued to increase to the Advanced capacity, he could have quasi High Mage mana capacity at the Intermediate level! After some time Irias spoke again. He couldn't believe it. "It stopped at 105 mana capacity," he blurted. "F*ck! He has the mana capacity of an Advanced mage!??" Shouted Philip in stupor. This was getting too much for him to handle. "Yes, it seems like that and would you stop cursing!" yelled Loyce. The room was in an uproar again. Arudiz had a slight smile on his lips. "He exceeded my expectations," he thought in surprise. "At least, he won't have a problem with mana," commented Talis who was also stunned. "This is the golden age of our family!" declared Suzanna Lerain, pumping her fist in the air. "Splendid!" Arius couldn't help but exclaim, clapping his hands in joy. When they had all calmed down, they proceeded to the final stage of the Awakening ceremony. "With what has happened so far, even if he doesn't awake an innate characteristic it wouldn't be a loss. Besides, what more could possibly happen?" commented Donlan Lerain. The other Lerains nodded in agreement as this was true. After all, he had awoken 4 elements, had gold Affinity for all of them, had Advanced level mana capacity, in fact, if he also awoke an innate characteristic, he would be overpowered!Memphis was happy inside, everything was going as smoothly as it should be. "With all this, I won't be surprised if I don't awake an innate characteristic," thought Memphis.Or so he thought for immediately he touched the purple crystal, it glowed a fierce Golden colour. "That's an Innate blessing! Which one is that?" said Loyce Lerain in surprise. They did not have to wait long to find out as it's name hovered above the crystal. All those present had their eyes going wide. "Increased cultivation speed?! This is insane!" shouted Philip in shock. The rest were too stunned to react. "This is way too much power," whispered Maureen in stupor. The rest were too stunned to speak. As if that was not enough, the crystal glowed again, this time blue. "Again!?!" groaned Donlan in shock. He couldn't believe this anymore. "This must be a dream, someone slap me!" he exclaimed. Immediately, Annie slapped him in his face, snapping him out of it.Donlan:"Who asked you to slap me!??!@#$!^$!"Annie: "..."The others were waiting eagerly to find out what the blue glow signified. Soon they had their answer. "Increased Spell Comprehension!" they exclaimed. "This must be it, it's over," thought Talis. "Look, it's glowing again!" exclaimed Suzanna. This time the colour was a fiery red. Golden light filled the room alongside the cry of a Phoenix. The name of the innate body appeared. "Golden Sun Phoenix body!" read Annie. "This is f*cking overpowered!" shouted Loyce. "Unbelievable, " croaked Irias Lerain in shock. The crystal glowed white again. "Come on, this is insane!" moaned Donlan Lerain. "Memphis awoke every innate characteristic!" Maureen realized. The white glow then displayed the words IMPECCABLE CONTROL. "Genius!" Arius couldn't help but exclaim. "Unmatched! Unrivalled! Splendid!" exclaimed Talis Lerain.Memphis slowly opened his eyes and he noticed that all those in the room were shouting and only Arudiz seemed calm. Arudiz gave him a thumbs up and wink. "Is the ceremony over?" Memphis asked. They all stopped making noise and they turned to stare at him intensely. Suddenly, his mother hugged him in tears. "What's wrong?" Memphis asked in surprise."You are an unparalleled prodigy!" exclaimed Arius Lerain. What talent? What genius? They all paled in comparison to Memphis. He was the true genius!A week had passed since Memphis' crazy Awakening ceremony. Of course Ralph too had undergone his Awakening ceremony and when he met Memphis he was ready to brag about it."Memphis, could you believe that I awoke the Lightning element? And I have a gold Affinity for it too! I even awoke an Innate ability and an Innate body! I'm awesome right?" Memphis shook his head at his friend's antics. He didn't want to pop Ralph's balloon of happiness. He would probably have a seizure if he heard that he awoke four elements, had gold Affinity for all of them and awoke all innate characteristics on top of that! The Lerain Mansion was very huge and had a lot of open space for training and dueling. There were five different spaces, all for training and duelling. One was underground while the other four were to the North, south east and west parts of the mansion. Currently, Memphis was with his three Uncles, Talis, Philip and Donlan with his aunt Maureen tagging along. They had decided to take some t
Memphis woke up full of energy and ready to continue his learning. By the time his uncles and aunts had arrived, Memphis was already in the training grounds casting fire spells.Donlan nodded in satisfaction. At least his work would not be difficult. The boy was hardworking. Memphis seemed to notice their presence. "Good morning uncles and aunts! See, I've been able to make my own Fire spell!" said Memphis with a smile. "Excellent! Let us see it!" commanded Donlan. Memphis nodded and closed his eyes, taking a deep breath he thrust his hands forward. "Flame whip!" he yelled. Whips of Fire coiled around his arms. Turning around, he slashed at a nearby dummy, leaving a long burn mark. Donlad and the rest of his uncles begun to clap but Memphis wasn't finished yet. Thrusting his arms forward again, the flame whips left his arms and condensed into a normal looking spear. "Flame spear! Explode!" Little Memphis yelled out, hurling the spear with all his might to another dummy. The spear exp
Now Memphis had been able to master how to use magic. One day he was sitting in thought recollecting some of his memories back when he was on Earth. On Earth, He wasn't an exercise maniac like most young guys were because of his situation. Back in the gang, there were a lot of guys obsessed with keeping their body in shape. Memphis recalled a saying in his past world that a sound mind resided in a sound body. Thus, if he wants to become a great Mage, he must train both his body and mind. For the training of the mind, practicing of meditation would be the sure fire way to train his mind. Also, the constant use of magic and spells served as training for the mind too. Memphis decided to make it a point to always have a two hour meditation session in the morning and a three hour meditation session in the evening, making a total of five hours. He had long noticed that after becoming a Mage, his eyesight, clarity of thought and senses had become stronger than before. He could now sense mana
Memphis was now seven years. It had been two years after his Awakening ceremony and since then he had improved by leaps and bounds. Unlike other nobles who were wasting their time on social parties and splurging family wealth, Memphis was always indoors training and cultivating. Had it not been for his mother sometimes making him visit Ralph and go around the capital, he wouldn't have stepped foot out of the house. Due to this, all the maids, servants and guards respected Memphis because he wasn't a wastrel or snobbish young master. Memphis had kept up his strict training regimen and his body had developed very well. His body was now very strong and to his surprise he noticed that the stronger his body got, the more he was able to use magic freely without any hitch. His muscles had developed and his stomach had smoothed out, showing signs of hard abs. Memphis had long decided to incorporate some boxing and martial arts into his regimen too. Thus he had stopped attacking the training
For Mages, especially those of Noble birth who started early on the path of magic at the tender age of five, the time they broke through to become Advanced mages ranged from five to seven years so by the time they became Intermediate mages, they would be 10 to 12 years old. One was considered a genius if made it into the Intermediate level at the age of 10.On the other hand, normal mages who begun their journey at the ages of 10 and 11 normally became Intermediate Mages at 15 to 18 years. There were some though who broke through far earlier or later.Memphis was cultivating in the family cultivation room as he always did but he sensed something different these past few weeks. His elements were growing further apart and they were all pulsating with energy, showing signs of instability and restlessness. Memphis had read and knew it was a natural occurrence when one was about to breakthrough so he wasn't worried. It would be a great shock though if he managed to become an Intermediate m
Mages most often formed spells for their use. Even though technically, mages could create spells, only a select few could create spells of a higher level. Most Noble families had their trademark spells which were destructive spells made by powerful mages in their family. Creating spells at a young age or level and even above one's level was unheard off. That was why Memphis' uncles were shocked when he created an Intermediate spell when he was only a Beginner Mage.Spell creation is a delicate process so the Mage had to have a clear idea of what spell he was going to create. In spell creation, there were many trials and errors as the Mage had to deliberately construct his mana and magic in the shape of his spell to bring it out. Of all the forms of spell creation, creating spells of one element was the easiest while combining two or more elements was the hardest. This was the reason why mages with two or more elements had an edge over those with one element because spells which are fo
Memphis had now become nine years old. Apart from meeting Ralph and going round the city with his family, Memphis rarely came out of the Lerain family mansion. His second bedrooms were the cultivation room and training area. That was where one would always find him. Irias Lerain sat behind his desk reading a letter he had received. The letter was from the King of the Daris kingdom. He wanted to meet all the Noble families in the kingdom apparently to discuss an urgent issue and also allow their kids to meet each other and interact as they would be taking over from their parents and would need to foster good relationships when they grew up. This event was going to be held in the Jade Pavillion in the royal palace. Irias was pleased as this would allow Memphis to at least meet other young nobles of his age and form good relationships as he had become more like a recluse. Had it not been for them dragging him out sometimes for parties and gatherings, he probably wouldn't know the capita
The Lerains were the last to arrive so after a few minutes of socializing, all the adults withdrew into the inner room of the Jade Pavillion which was sealed with soundproof spells to prevent eavesdropping, leaving the kids alone in the big room. There were seats available so all of them took a seat. The king had a small throne in the room which he promptly sat on. Beside him was his right hand man, Stefan, a powerful mage. There were murmurs as the nobles present all were speculating on the issue which had forced the king to summon all of them to gather here."Nobles present and ministers, as we all know, many promising mages are being abducted from most kingdoms with our kingdom not being an exception. Before I elaborate further, I have good news and bad news for all of you," said King Muriel, looking around with all seriousness. King Muriel was a tall man with a handsome face and blonde hair. He had the elements of Air, Lightning,Water and Blood and bone element, having a gold Affi
"Celine we have a problem," said Dean West. Celine came over to the dean and sat beside him. "What's the matter?" she asked."Some of the groups are in trouble. I need you to head to their locations as fast as you can and bring them here," said Dean West. "Is it Memphis' group? Their mission was a bit dangerous," asked Celine."No. They have problems too but they can handle it," replied the Dean. "Fine. You owe me one Andrew," said Celine and she vanished in a puff of black smoke. The Dean cracked a smile and continued to spectate the matches.**The first part of the round had come to an end. 50 contestants made it but the rest were all eliminated. The next day was much more fierce. The contestants gave their all to see to the elimination of their opponents. With neither side giving an inch, the match was very fun to watch. Just like the first part, only 50 qualified."Alright. Don't start celebrating now after winning your first 1v1. There are three more to go. We now have 100
[Author's Note: Hi guys, it's been some time... I've been having massive problems with my internet connectivity which has made me unable to update rapidly like I am used to. Let's hope it will be resolved soon so that I can make it up to you. Oh, and please do leave reviews so I can know what you think of my book. Thanks!]**While the council were still out completing their missions, the tournament was still ongoing. The second round had ended and it was left with the 400 who had made it from the groups of 10"Congratulations to all of you! It's not been easy but somehow you've made it into the 400. Don't get complacent though because it only gets harder from here," said Eric as he looked down at the remaining 400 participants. There was a cheer from the crowd and the contestants. Clearing his throat, he continued."For making it into the top 400, all of you will be given five low grade potions and 50 crystals. Now on to the rules of this next round. Unlike the other rounds, this r
"I'll come with you," said Hector. Phinehas and the trio were preparing to leave for the caves and Hector wanted to go with them. It was a perfectly logical idea.Besides, the kidnapped kids would tend to recognize the village chief more than the Phinehas and the trio."Okay. Who will look after the village though?" asked Phinehas. "Old Zayn will help out in my absence," replied Hector. Phinehas nodded and looked at Memphis. Memphis shrugged. It was fine by him. An extra Mage wouldn't hurt especially when they were facing the likes of a general level creature. Hector took one last look at his wife. She tried to meet his gaze but glanced downwards, unable to look at her husband. Breathing heavily, Hector stood up and followed Phinehas and the trio. Old Zayn looked at Hannah. "You know that Hector loved you very much? why would you choose to hurt him so?" he asked.Hannah sniffled. "I had no choice," she replied, unable to meet the old man's gaze.**Memphis, Ralph, Cathy, Phinehas an
Stu Harper was a very smart kid. Even without anyone telling him anything, he was somehow able to deduce why Hannah, the chief's wife was being stared at like that.He was in a state of shock. Who would have suspected the chief's wife to be kidnapper? Unfortunately it was the truth. He felt very lucky.Stu remembered the times that be and other kids in the village will recieve sweets from the chief's wife. All the kids in the village liked her. How could she do this? Stu could not fathom it.Memphis sighed. He was surprised too. Of all the analysis and deductions he had made, he had never included the chief's wife. Memphis remembered a term in the police circles back on earth. They always said, don't put a crime past anyone. From a child to a an old man, any could be a potential criminal. This situation had confirmed it.Of course, the ones who were shocked the most were Old Zayn and Hector. Old Zayn heavily sat on the ground and kept muttering. Hector meanwhile kneels before his wife
The masked woman clicked her tongue in annoyance. She had been tricked by the boy and was now standing on a movement restriction formation. There were many kinds of formations. The basic ones required the Mage to draw the circles and diagrams of the formation along with runes. This was a very tiring process as the drawn formation had to be inch perfect. If there was a lopsided circle, a wrong rune or any outside interference, the rune was bound to spoil. There was another type though which belonged to the rich and elite. This was called an irregular formation. Thus, the formation has already been made and the only thing a person needed to do was to get someone to activate the properties by stepping on it. In terms of space or coverage area, hand drawn formations were the best. Some could span as wide as 100 meters. Irregular formations though were movable and had less chance of failing as the formation had already been made expertly. Chief Hector had long noticed the signal and be
"Whoever is behind this has seriously crossed the line!" Hector fumed. It was almost midnight but he and his wife couldn't sleep. How could they sleep when their only child was kidnapped? You may not understand it until you become a parent yourself. The pain of losing a child and an only one at that was far painful than any form of cruel torture inflicted on the parent. Whether Benjamin was alive or dead, not seeing him for the past hours had been very tough for his parents.Hannah had regained her composure but she sat quietly on the bed, hugging her knees. Earlier, after the trio had gone to bed, he had to go out of the village to unwind, leaving behind fiery destruction before he calmed himself down. After a pause of silence, Hector spoke in a grave tone."I have to go to the city and request the services of a more powerful mage than I," "No that's dangerous. The people of the village need you, Hector. If you leave and anything... happens, what would we say? The... incidents don'
"Hahahaha, the idiot didn't kill me," Laren laughed weakly as he regained consciousness again. The sun was high in the sky, beating down upon him with a vengeance which made his wounds hurt more. His clothes had been destroyed, with a little more than rags covering him. His long hair stood on end while huge cuts and burn marks were all over his body. The greatest damage though was his chest area which had recieved the direct impact of the spell.Had it not been for Laren's high level, clothes which could take the attack of a Commander beast and a defensive artifact coupled with a chaos spell, he would have died from the attack.Every inch of Laren's body was racked with pain as he feebly tried to rise but collapsed again. The only good thing about the attack was that it had not crippled him. Had he been crippled and unable to use magic, that would be unacceptable.Seeing he couldn't get up, he reached for his storage ring which surprisingly worked and took out the communication ball
After the initial shock of them being Beginner Mages with the rare elements of Lightning, Blessing and Light, the trio were being treated hospitably by the Village head and his wife. Of course, the women who spotted them earlier on came to check on them to see if they were alright.Memphis and Ralph willingly helped out Hector by accompanying him and other men in the village to the small wood to gather sticks and twigs as firewood for the household. They were used by the part time maid who came regularly in the mornings and noon to prepare food. Whenever the chief took Memphis and Ralph there, he and the other men entered the nearby woods as he was confident that the two could at least defend themselves with magic. Besides, the village was not far off and the boys could reach there in no time.Due to this, Memphis and Ralph had long gotten the pieces of wood needed. Memphis was carrying the load with his space element due to no one being around. The other kids would come later but f
Memphis smirked and glanced at Ralph and Cathy. "How good is your acting?" he asked."Fairly good. I think I could pull it off," replied Cathy. "Fairly good? I'm the master! This is going to be a piece of cake," Ralph boasted. In the distance, their sharp eyesight could make out the village. They could see children at play, chasing balls and kites, mothers sitting in the open and gossiping, the earliest men coming from work and the perfect sunset to finish it off.The trio exchanged smiles. "Time to put our plan into action," smiled Memphis. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Three women sat around on stools, probably done with work and exchanging juicy gossip. The eldest one among them leaned over and was sharing gossip with her friends."– and he's now got a kid to deal with! Poor Jonah, he took that fall bad-" "Look yonder, who are those kids?" one of the women stopped the gossip's tirade and pointed at three kids who looked around wearily.
