After office hours ended, Reid went straight to Nancy's house. This time he didn't announce his arrival in advance because he wanted to make it a surprise.

Reid plans to take Nancy to the restaurant he has booked and propose there.

It was still clear in Reid's memory how they first met. At that time, Reid accidentally bumped into Nancy in a busy shopping center.

"Sorry," Reid said. Then Reid was amazed to see the appearance of the woman in front of him, her body is slim and tall, with a very beautiful face and her shoulder-length blonde hair. Her red lipstick emphasizes the shape of her full lips.

The woman didn't respond to Reid's apology, looking annoyed. She turned to leave.

Reid, who didn't feel like leaving just like that, hurriedly said. “I'm Reid Cliffton. What's your name?" Reid wanted to get acquainted.

Suddenly the woman's steps stopped. “You are a member of the Cliffton family?”

Reid cursed to himself, regretting why he had just mentioned his family's name. Everyone in this town knows who the Cliffton family is. All members of the Cliffton family were respected in this town—except him.

But suddenly the woman in front of him smiled. She even reached out to Reid. “My name is Nancy. Nancy Stewart. Pleased to meet you."

Reid shook Nancy's hand, and from then on they got closer until they finally started dating.

Reid had never felt so lucky that day. He got to know Nancy who was beautiful and also very kind. Nancy was perfect, so perfect that sometimes Reid wondered why Nancy would want to have a relationship with him?

Yes, the person who first expressed feelings was Nancy. Nancy was the first to tell him she loved him. If Nancy hadn't done that, Reid might never have had the courage to ask Nancy out on a date.

But now, after they had been together three months, Reid was more confident about their relationship. He will no longer be discouraged, let alone back down. In fact, now he is going to go ahead and propose to Nancy, the only woman he loves.

Reid glanced once again at the dashboard, specifically at the small box containing his proposal ring for Nancy. The ring was very simple with a small diamond, that was all Reid could afford from all the savings he had accumulated so far.

Even though he was the first child in the Cliffton family, in fact that didn’t make Reid wallow in wealth. Only his step brother was given a card with an unlimited balance, while Reid had to work on the side to have his own money.

Reid didn’t care. Besides, he didn’t want to buy a ring for Nancy by asking Abigail, because his stepmother was the one who managed the finances at home. Abigail would definitely just scoff at him and taunt him with words like “Just ask your mother who is a prostitute. Didn’t she leave you any money before she died? She must have a lot of money from selling herself.”

Reid really didn’t like it when he had to hear his birth mother being bad-mouthed.

Reid tried to shake off the unpleasant image. He returned to focusing on his plan to propose to Nancy tonight. Moreover, the car he was driving had arrived in front of his girlfriend's house.

Reid rang the doorbell at the house.

The door opened, revealing Nancy's beautiful face. In fact, Nancy looked absolutely stunning in the short dress she was wearing. The dress was full of glitter and only had thin straps at the shoulders.

The woman's expression was initially smiling broadly, but when she saw who had come, the smile immediately faded. It was as if Nancy expected someone else to be there instead of Reid. But who else does Nancy expect to visit her house tonight?

Reid tried to dismiss his suspicions.

“Hey, Darling. I didn't know you were coming tonight," said Nancy in a trembling voice. Reid frowned, why did his girlfriend look so nervous? Did she know Reid planned to propose?

“Because I wanted to surprise you. I want to take you to a restaurant for dinner," Reid said with a smile.

“Right now?" Nancy asked.

Reid nodded.

Instead of being happy to hear Reid's invitation, Nancy's face looked panicked. Several times he glanced at the wall clock.

“Why do you suddenly want to take me to a restaurant? Is there anything special you want to celebrate? Is it possible that you will also be promoted to become a manager like Liam?" asked Nancy with a face full of hope. After three months together, of course Nancy already knew Liam too.

Reid shook his head. Making Nancy's expression immediately change to disappointment.

“There's something else special I want to talk to you about later. Do you still remember the last restaurant we visited? You said the steaks there were delicious. Later, I'll also open the wine for you," said Reid, trying to cheer up his girlfriend.

Indeed, lately Nancy has often asked when Reid will be promoted at his father's company. Reid loved Nancy, but sometimes he felt uncomfortable with these kinds of questions.

Nancy snorted, her face still sour. She stepped into the house while saying, “Unfortunately tonight I already have an appointment with someone else. I can't have dinner with you, Reid.”

Reid followed Nancy into the house. His feelings turned disappointed, even though he tried to keep smiling. No wonder Nancy was ready with a beautiful dress, apparently because she already had an appointment with someone else. “Okay, that's fine. It was my fault for not telling you first,” Reid said.

“Besides, what important thing do you want to talk about that you want to take me to an expensive restaurant? You don't have any money," said Nancy impatiently.

Instead of being offended, Reid actually took his girlfriend's hand and held it tightly.

If they couldn't have dinner together, maybe it wouldn't be that restaurant that would be their historic place, but this house. Reid didn't want to waste any more time.

Reid looked at Nancy closely. "Honey, you know that I really love you, right?"

Nancy took a deep breath, but nodded.

“Because I love you so much, I don't want to lose you. I want us to live together, forever.” Then Reid knelt down, taking the ring box out of his pocket. He said softly, "Nancy Stewart, will you marry me?"

It wasn't the word "Yes" that Reid got, but rather Nancy's hand which pushed the small box away until the ring fell and rolled away.

Reid was of course surprised. Especially when he heard Nancy's next harsh words.

“How dare you propose to me, don't you realize who you are?”

Reid was stunned. What does Nancy mean? Who is he? Didn't Nancy already know from the start? "I thought we loved each other," Reid said, still confused.

Nancy snorted. “Yeah, I guess I could love you too. I thought that because you were a member of the Cliffton family you lived in luxury, just like your brother. Who would have thought that you were an outcast member of the Cliffton family. You are ostracized by your own family. So how could I marry you? Even the ring you gave me just now is so lame. I regret I wasted these three months dating you."

Reid's body froze. He thought that all this time Nancy had loved him sincerely, but it turned out that from the start Nancy only accepted him because of his family name Cliffton.

“We're broken up from now on, Reid. Don't ever come to see me again," said Nancy curtly. She even said, “Don't forget to pick up your lame ring.”

Nancy's words hurt Reid deeply. Nancy was his first love, and Reid loved Nancy with all his heart, but apparently that meant nothing in Nancy's eyes. Reid was actually reminded again of his position in the Cliffton family.

When Reid got up and went to pick up his ring which had rolled near the table, Reid's gaze met a bouquet of roses. There is a paper with handwriting there.

“You are so hot. Love you.”

Then there was a signature underneath, a signature that Reid was very familiar with because Reid had always prepared that person's assignments. Signature of Liam, his half-brother.

"What does this mean? Why can Liam send you flowers with words like this?” Reid said stiffly as he lifted the paper.

Nancy gasped. But a second later the woman decided she no longer cared about Reid's opinion.

“Of course because Liam likes me. And I like him too, " answered Nancy lightly.

“So you cheated on me with Liam?” Reid asked, clenching his jaw.

“If so, why? Listen, Reid, even though Liam is younger than you, his future is much brighter. Now he is a manager in the office, while you are just a lowly employee. Of course I prefer Liam over you."

“Nancy, you just don't know the truth. Liam is not as great as you think. All his brilliant work in the office was not done by himself, but he used me to do it. Liam always makes fun of me as an idiot, even though he's the idiot!” Reid exclaimed, unable to contain himself.

Nancy blinked, seemingly surprised by this fact. But then that woman said, “You think I care about that? Even if the genius is you, I will still choose Liam. Because Liam's future is guaranteed. While your future is bleak. I don't want to suffer with you, Reid.”

In the end, Reid left Nancy's house feeling hurt and also with trampled self-esteem. Not only was his proposal flatly rejected, but it turned out that Nancy was also having an affair with Liam.

Reid couldn't just accept all of that.

Reid returned to his father's house with anger blazing.

When he got there he immediately went up to the second floor of Liam's room. Without bothering to knock on the door, Reid immediately entered. He found Liam who was neatly dressed, looking ready to go outside. Definitely to meet Nancy.

Reid clenched his jaw. Without a word, he approached Liam, then hit him hard.
