Ueda rolled his eyes. He nudged Alta’s ass with his foot. “Go take that into your room.”

Alta flipped him off, but supporting Francel and still managing to stay attached at the lips, Alta stood up and carried the weak werewolf back down the hall.

“You should still be sleeping,” Alta said as he laid Francel back in bed.

“I know, but you left and I was cold and I couldn’t get comfortable without you.”

They rearranged the blankets, and comfort came after Alta curled up and laid his head at Francel’s shoulder. Francel hugged him, face buried in his hair, fingers playing with the edges of his wings.

“I love you,” Francel whispered.

“What?” Alta said, propping up a bit to look into golden eyes.

“What do you mean what?” Francel asked, looking away.

There was silence as Alta stared, eyes taking in the downward look, the biting of the lower lip. The frown.

“You mean it?” Alta said.

“Of course.”

Alta reached and touched Francel’s cheeks, turning his face so their eyes met. “Say it again.”
