The shift. He’d been expecting it, but still Vernon’s stomach twisted and his head clouded, vision gray, for a moment. The ship left the natural gravitational pull from the random emerges of whirlpools. If he had been standing, the brief moment of instability would have toppled him over.

Four shadows stood over the bow of the ship.

The young man was sitting beside his sister, she was holding his hand nervously.

His left hand was squeezed tightly, and he turned to face towards the Sorcerer he met in the kitchen when he searched for Yves. Leeno’s face was pale and sweat beaded on his forehead. His mouth opened, and he sucked in a deep breath.

Leeno had never been in space before. His sister — the cook named Leona hadn’t either; she sat behind them, next to Vernon. Her breath puffed loudly.

“Here,” Vernon said from Leoo’s other side. He held up a bottle of water. “It’ll help.”

Leeno swallowed deeply and took the water with a grateful look. He drank a few mouthfuls and then moaned.
