"I wanna know too, what did you do back there? The speed you displayed was incredible, not to mention the amount of force you generated behind your punch," Remarked Iris with an intrigued look on her face.

"Well, it's kinda simple, actually. About a couple of weeks ago, I realized that the three Arts of my Ether Mage Ascended Tier don't necessarily have to be used in the same sequence. Ether Materialization manifests Ether outside of my body, Ether Modelling lets me control and give shape to the manifested Ether, and Ether Emission lets me fire it out.

Obviously, I can't use Ether Emission without first using the previous two Arts. Well, I technically can skip Ether Modelling, but then my output has no real shape or momentum to it, resulting in a weak attack. I can also technically use Ether Materialization on its own, but that limits me to using the manifested Ether at close range only.

The game changer was when I realized that I can use Ether Modelling without using Ether Materialization. Using Modelling on its own lets me directly control the flow of Ether inside my own body...when I punched you, I'd focused Ether into my fist.

And as for how I moved so quickly, I'd focused Ether into my feet, giving me an extra spring in my step, so to speak. Unfortunately, after a single move with the part of my body I've focused Ether into, the concentrated Ether spreads back throughout my body, and I have to focus it into that spot all over again.

After focusing Ether into a single spot and compressing it there, I make use of it but releasing the compression at the point of impact, which creates a sort of shockwave that enhances the force of my attack. Unfortunately, it also results in backlash. When the compressed energy is so abruptly uncompressed, it sends vibrations back through my body.

I didn't channel and compress too much Ether into my feet when I leapt towards you, so while my calves were a bit numb after I sprang forward, no real damage was done. But I miscalculated and compressed a bit too much Ether into my fist, more than I can currently handle, and as a result, I'm pretty sure my forearm sustained a fracture or two.

After I punched you, the concentrated Ether in my fist dispersed back throughout my body following the backlash, so I couldn't have unleashed another hit like that with the same fist again immediately. But that's a relatively small drawback...see, when using this method, I don't consume any Ether whatsoever! I'm only manipulating the flow of my Ether, which means I'm not actually using up even a single drop with these attacks," I grinned smugly.

This method of using my Ether Modelling Art is honestly super simple, and pretty easy to get the hang of as far as manipulating my Ether inside my body goes. Getting used to the immense increase in force that it results in, on the other hand, that was super tricky.

I broke my right arm pretty badly the first time I used it, Lilac kinda freaked out as she ran to get me a Healing Elixir. So I can't use this technique to throw any especially destructive attacks without injuring myself in the process, but that said, my current upper limit with how much Ether I can handle channeling into a single spot, still packs quite a significant punch.

"That's...almost unfair, to be able to unleash that much force at no cost to your Ether Capacity is amazing, even if it does take a toll on you. If you get an opening to land a solid blow while using that technique, your victory will be all but guaranteed. Not gonna lie, I'm kinda jealous," Frowned Iris enviously.

"Hah, yeah right. It's a good thing you can't use an ability like that, you're enough of a gorilla as it is," Muttered Lilac wryly, before swiftly averting her gaze as Iris glared at her.

"That really was impressive...if I'd been going all out, I still would've struggled to dodge that, since I didn't know it was coming. It may not be a sustained speed boost, lasting only for a moment...but in that moment, your speed just about touched the level of an Apex Mage.

Well, to be more specific, you were about as fast as the average Apex Mage shortly after they've unlocked their Apex Tier, I'd say somewhere close to someone who has a Speed stat somewhere in the mid-50s. Tell me, what are the current values of your stats?" He asked me.

"Uh, well, let's see...I last checked sometime yesterday afternoon, and my Durability stat is still the highest, now at 35. But my Speed stat is tied with it, also at 35. My Strength stat hasn't increased much lately, it's been stuck at 30 for a while, and my Agility stat is at 33. Oh, and my Maximum Ether Output is at 32," I recalled after thinking back to it.

"Hm, interesting...if I remember right, when you first started living here, your Speed and Agility stats were on the low side, while your Strength stat was a bit higher and your Durability stat was especially high," Remarked Ifeus thoughtfully.

"Yeah, my Durability may still be my highest stat, but it's also increased the least of all my stats, along with my Strength stat, both have increased by 5. But my Speed stat has increased by 13 and Agility by 11, and Ether Output by 14," I surmised with a nod.

"Huh? Wait, that can't be right. That's...unusually fast. I mean, my stat values increased only by around 3 to 4 per year on average. Of course, it increased very slowly in the first few years after I awakened my Magic System, since I was only four at the time, but even then, the highest increase I ever saw in a year in any of my stats was 10, and even that was considered to be rare and impressive. Meanwhile, you've only been training for four months," Remarked Iris, wide-eyed.

"Ah, there's actually a reason for that, the same reason why his Magic System can't quantify his Ether Capacity into numerical form," Ifeus informed her.

"Oh, yeah? What reason is that?" Inquired Iris in fascination.

"Don't bother, he's not gonna answer that," I sighed wistfully.

"Why even mention it if you're not gonna elaborate? That's like showing a cake to a person who's starving and then flushing it down the toilet right in front of them. Kind of a dick move, dad," Frowned Lilac in disapproval.

Not sure I agree with her analogy, but sure.

"Yeah, what she said...uh, sort of. I mean, come on, man...you always say just enough to make me even more curious and give me a lot more questions I want answered than I did before. If you aren't gonna give me any answers about my past, then just don't bring up the topic at all," I huffed indignantly.

"He's right, it's pretty cruel on your part, dad," Nodded Iris in agreement.

"You should just tell him everything he wants to know, it's his memories and his past, it's not right for you to keep that information to yourself," Added Lilac with a huff.

"...come on, kids, don't gang up on me. I'm sorry, okay? I was thoughtless with my words, it won't happen again," He mumbled meekly in response.

He really shrinks up fast when his daughters are involved, doesn't he? But even now, he isn't planning on giving me any answers...which just makes me all the more curious about my past, damn it...

"So, tomorrow's the big day, To. Well, you excited?" Inquired Lilac, as I finished up my breakfast. "I'm not sure...I guess I'm equal parts excited and nervous? Maybe a little anxious too. And the fact that my daily routine will now be interrupted is pretty bittersweet...well, mostly bitter. Yeah, that about sums up my feelings on the subject," I surmised wryly. "I don't get you, To. I know I'd feel super restless and impatient if I'd been stuck indoors for over four months. Come on, you should be way more excited about this," She grinned in response. "Sure, I'll just change the way I feel because you said I should, that's super doable," I replied dryly. A couple of days have passed since my sparring matches against Ifeus. And tomorrow, I'll officially be joining his Magic Guild, Solaris. Incidentally, it's also my birthday tomorrow, my first since the start of my current memories. Today's the 19th of April, the year is 505 PA, the date on the day I first woke up here was the 2nd

"So, what exactly is this game?" I asked her, as she entered my room, holding a pack of cards. "It's a pretty simple card game, it's a deck of thirty cards, we each hold three cards in our hands at a time. Each card has one of three symbols on it...rock, paper and scissors. We both play one card each turn, and then the rules of rock-paper-scissors apply," She explained, as she sat on my bed, across from me. "Oh, okay, so it's just rock-paper-scissors in card form, then?" I surmised in bemusement. She wasn't kidding when she said that this is a simple game. I suppose it could be a slightly more fun way of playing rock-paper-scissors, but it seems kinda boring, especially for a game that she picked herself. There's gotta be more to-... "Hehehe...come now, who do you think I am? Obviously there's more to it than that! Did you really think I'd waste money on a game that's got nothing more to it that just rock-paper-scissors in card form?" She responded smugly, as she opened the pack an

"...""...""...""S-so...shall we, uh, continue the game?" Stuttered Lilac quietly, breaking the silence. After, uh, you know, THAT happened, I lifted her off my lap and turned away, feeling absolutely mortified as I calmed myself down. She was pretty quiet too, which means she probably realized what it was that, uh...p-poked her. "I-I think we should just stop already, I told you it had to be age-restricted for a reason...," I muttered, my gaze fixed downwards, as I was unable to look her in the eye. "Wh-what, are you chicken? Come on, you aren't scared, a-are you?" She taunted me, poking my shoulder a couple of times...but her taunts are definitely a lot less spirited than usual. This is painfully awkward. "You should be more worried about it than me...I-I mean, I bet that was a super unpleasant experience for you, and it might get even worse from here, s-so...," I trailed off. "Well, um...I guess it was kinda awkward, b-but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was unpleasan

"Are you ready to get going?" Inquired Ifeus with a smile, as I made my way down the stairs. "As ready as I'll ever be, I guess...but, uh, what's with this outfit?" I inquired in bemusement. "That's your gear. It's made of highly durable, but still quite light and flexible, leather. You're about to be a Guild Mage, so you might as well look the part, right?" He grinned with a thumbs up. "Okay, first off...I'm only going to register today, aren't I? So what I'm wearing really shouldn't make any difference either way. And second...I feel kinda exposed," I frowned apprehensively. It's the next day, the 20th of April, 505 PA, which happens to be my birthday, and I was just about to head out to the Guild with Ifeus. Lilac's gonna be tagging along too, while Iris is busy on a Quest in another city at the moment. A few minutes ago, Ifeus handed me this new outfit, to use as battle gear. So, I went back up to my room and changed into it, but, uh...it's kinda missing something. It consist

He sure doesn't look all that impressive...and what's with the dumb hair?" Frowned the redhead, narrowing his eyes at me as he peered at my face, "That's one girly face you've got there...tell me, you have any experience fighting Monsters or anything?"Yeah, I already don't like this guy."Hey, there's no need to be such an asshole about it, Rex," Responded Lilac coldly. "Stay out of this, Lilac. This is between me and the pretty boy," Replied Rex, continuing to glare at me. "Hi, I'm Topaz Oriole, and I'm the guy not judging someone based on their appearance. Nice to meet you, dickhead," I responded dryly. "Come on, Master, there's just no way this guy's strong enough to start off at the same rank as me! He's obviously got no experience whatsoever," Scoffed Rex dismissively. "That may be true, but he's more than strong

"Hm...? Oh, hey, Master...g'morning," Yawned the person sleeping on the stairs lazily, sitting up groggily. A little girl? She looks younger than Lilac...but Lilac has previously mentioned that she's the youngest member in the Guild. Maybe this girl's another new member like me? "I thought I told you to stop sleeping down here," Sighed Ifeus in response."But it's so nice and cool down here...," She muttered sleepily, before turning her gaze this way, "Huh? What's going on? Why are there so many people down here?"Hm? Oh, looks like pretty much everyone in the Guild followed us down here. I didn't even notice. "We're holding a duel, you might as well stay and watch. Oh, let me introduce you, Topaz...this is Sapphire Roselle. She's an Apex Mage, specifically an Ice Mage. Sapphire, this is Topaz Oriole, our newest member, an Ascended Mage, a Martial Artist to be specific. Since you're both named after gemstones, I'm sure you'll get along," Remarked Ifeus with a grin. "Come on, that's

Did he say Pyro Dragon? That's the most powerful Inferno Art in the Fire Class...the only Arts stronger in that Class are the Lightning Arts that are unlocked at the Apex Tier. Trying to dodge it would be a waste of effort...so, I'll just have to counter it. I could try rushing him, but his casting speed is incredibly fast, he'll finish charging it up before I can reach him. I then opened up my stance, lifting my right foot up by my side as I channeled Ether into it...the amount of Ether I used to counter one of his attacks earlier won't be enough against this attack, I'm gonna have to risk taking on some serious backlash. Not enough yet, I need more, as much as I can possibly channel! I still don't have a very good idea of how much damage I can cause with this technique, after I broke Ifeus's arms, I was wary of overdoing it and ending up destroying the basement or something, on top of the fact that I was trying to avoid any excessive backlash. But I don't the luxury of worrying a

I-I'm so...s-so damn cold, I've never been this freezingly cold before... "W-wasn't there a better way of stopping the fight than th-this?" I stuttered as I shivered uncontrollably, my entire body trembling like a leaf. "S-seriously, I-I'm freezing my a-ass off over here...," Mumbled Rex weakly. Since he's an Ascended Mage of the Fire Class, he likely has the Fire Immunity Trait, which means that he can't be hurt by fire or heat. But the downside to that is that it makes him weaker to the cold. Which means that he's feeling it way worse than I am right now...good, serves him right, the asshole. It's a small consolation for the duel ending in a draw. Though, if I'm being honest, I'm glad I didn't unleash that last attack that I'd been charging up. I got way too caught up in the heat of the moment, I probably would've broken a lot more than just my arm if I'd unleashed that attack... "Sapphire, if you would," Ifeus prompted her expectantly. "Ugh, you're giving me way too much work

"Yes, of course, I completely agree."Hah, yeah right. There had been an immense spike in the number of Monsters around the capital, attacking around the outskirts of the city. Which is very unusual behavior for Monsters, they tend to dislike hunting in unfamiliar territory. Though, from what we've heard, they're not hunting, they're just attacking and killing without really eating the people they kill. Which is even more unusual and unnatural for Monsters. Even smal

This is bad...including the woman who'd tricked me, there's eight of them surrounding me right now. The odds are heavily stacked against me, I have absolutely no margin of error here..."How troublesome, it would seem as though we can't use our Magic," Remarked one of them, as they circled around me."It's not a problem. This is just a minor inconvenience, it's no great obstacle.""You know, I'm starting to feel kinda insulted!" Well, this was a massive waste of time. What gives? The hell is going on here, anyway? I mean, seriously, who sent me that letter? Somehow, I don't think this was just some dumb prank... On the bright side, I get to go home now, and since Ifeus is here, I just need to meet back up with him and he can teleport me right back to Skyrouge City. So, at least I don't have to worry about taking the long journey back by carriage. Still though, I'm kinda pissed, I don't like that I just wasted a whole lot of time on nothing. As I walked down the street, muttering to myself irritably, I was snapped out of it as someone came jogging this way, trying to swerve out of the way as they closed in on me, but in their rush, failed to fully get out the way and ended up bumping into me, getting knocked down with an alarmed cry as I stumbled back a bit before regaining my balance."Uh, sorry about that, are you okay?"
