"If you're going to sit here, stop eating so loud," Muttered Sapphire with a frown, as I munched on some chips.

"Can't help it, these chips are super crunchy, I don't think it's possible to eat these quietly," I shrugged in response.

"Then sit somewhere else."

"The Cold Vitrea in the hall broke, so it's too hot to sit anywhere else...but it's nice and cool near you," I pointed out.

"Yeah, because I'm cooling the air around me so that it's more comfortable, I didn't give you permission to reap the rewards of my hard work. Why are you even here? You look like you don't want to be. Well, I know that feeling," She yawned sleepily.

"Ifeus told me to take at least two Quests every week until Iris gets back," I sighed wearily, before adding, "My plan is to complete that quota as early in the week as possible, so that I can relax for the rest of the week. What about you? You don't ever take any Quests, not that I've seen anyway, you usually go sleep down in the basement arena. So why are

"Of all people, damn it...why'd I have to end up stuck with you on this Quest, pretty boy?" Sighed Rex, giving me a side glance. "Hey, that's my line, Tomato Head," I responded dryly, as we drove out of the city, making our way onto the path leading to Horizon Village. Rex was driving the carriage, while I was inside. There's a sliding panel at the front of the carriage, I'm guessing for passengers to speak to the driver or the other way around. Unfortunately, it's broken, and can't be slid shut. Apparently, because of that, Ifeus was able to get a discount on the rental fee. If I'd known, I'd have chipped in to get a carriage with a working panel, I'd rather not have to see this guy's face if I don't have to. "Well, whatever...it's too late now, so there's no point in complaining. Let's just focus up and get this Quest over with as soon as possible," He replied with a grimace. "Oh, wow, you actually said something smart. Ugh, I hate having to agree with anything you say," I mutt

As I opened the door to the carriage and stepped out... "A girl?""A really flat-chested girl. Not that I'm complaining.""Uh, I think that's a guy...""Huh? Oh, yeah, looks like it is...well, that's disappointing."...yeah, imma kill all of them. I then shot forward with a burst of Ether channeled into my feet, channeling more into my right fist as I closed in on one of the bandits in an instant, his eyes widening in alarm as I drove my fist forward and slammed it square onto the middle of his face, sending him flying back as I broke his teeth and several teeth. Streaks of blood and teeth fragments flew out of his mouth as he let out a sharp cry of pain, his back hitting the ground and skidding back a few meters. He let out a dazed groan before losing consciousness and passing out. "T-take him down, quickly!" Exclaimed one of the other bandits in alarm, as they began to take aim at me with their guns. I swiftly raised my right foot, already channeling Ether into it, before rapid

"These shackles are pretty sturdy, and they're lined with lead, so they block the flow of Ether in a person's body. They're not gonna break free while these shackles are latched onto them," Remarked Rex, as we finished restraining the unconscious bandits and loaded them into the carriage. "Yeah, I know what they do...now, then, which one should we interrogate? We should probably separate whoever we pick from the group, to keep the others from influencing him. We could end up on a wild goose chase if they give us false information or something," I pointed out. "Mhm, that'd be less than ideal. But I know just the one we should pick to interrogate...hey, which of them was the one who tried to run away?" He asked me. "Pretty sure it's this one, I didn't get a good look at his face thanks to the dust cloud, but see the bump on the back of his head? I slammed him onto the ground, and the back of his head struck the ground first. He's the only one who I knocked out like that, none of the

"I know we've restrained them with Ether-blocking shackles, but I'm still a bit uneasy about leaving them in here unsupervised," Frowned Rex, as we made our way off the path with the carriage. We'd finished interrogating that guy a few minutes ago, before knocking him out again. I then conked the other captured bandits on the head to make sure they wouldn't be waking up anytime soon, and now we're on our way to the bandit's hideout. There's a small cove of trees a couple of kilometers to the left of the path, the bandits had set up camp there just under a week ago. They snuck into Sapio from the border between this nation and the other human nation of Anthro, where they'd been pulling similar heists. They'd camp out near a road with low traffic and target any travellers who looked like they might be carrying valuable goods. They pose as a traveling circus as a cover, and there's a total of twenty-five people in their group. The ones we took our are almost all Basic Mages, with two

"I don't get it, how do they know where we are? They're heading straight for us, and from multiple directions," Remarked Rex with a grimace. "We should go...I'm pretty sure that there's an Apex Mage among them," I responded warily. "Come on, there's just no way...what reason would an Apex Mage have to lead a group of bandits made up of low level Mages?" He pointed out, before forming a couple of swirling fireballs in his hands and adding, "Let's take out the underlings quickly and then deal with the leader. They may know where we are...but I can sense them too. Just a little closer and they'll be well within my range..."Damn it, there's no way to convince him without revealing my Class. We're running out of time fast here, I can clearly hear them coming now, the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs as several footsteps came into earshot. They're fifty meters away and closing in fast...our best bet is to slow them down with flames and then escape, but I need to convince this

I felt a sharp rise in the temperature around me as the vines restraining me burst ablaze with flames, turning to ash and freeing me, a few small burns on my skin as I backed away in a hurry, getting some distance away from the woman. "You know, it's only been a few months since I became an Apex Mage, but even so...this is the first time I've ever bled since then. Well, not counting the monthly, you know...period of time! Hahaha, see what I did there?" She laughed in amusement, as she wiped away the blood trickling down the corner of her mouth. "Save it for after you're behind bars!" Snapped Rex, racing forward and unleashing a massive burst of flames at her. "Nice, you can both use chantless casting, what a promising, talented pair," She remarked, as the branches of the trees around her extended out in front of her, blocking the flames. She then sent the flaming branches zipping out towards us rapidly, before I unleashed an Ether-enhanced punch at the branches shooting towards me

Point-of-View: Rex Arbell———————————————————————————"...-any day now. Come on, you insufferable shithead, wake up already. Hey, you still alive in there, Tomato Head?" Came an annoying voice, as I felt something splash onto my face before a hand repeatedly smacked my cheek over and over. "Wha...?" I muttered, slowly opening my eyes with a weary groan, sitting up and rubbing my head. Where am I? What happened? My cheek is stinging with pain... "Hey, how many fingers am I holding up?"Huh? There's a hand in front of me...flipping me off. "Ugh, I feel so-...," I began groggily, before my eyes widened and I sat up abruptly as it all came flooding back to me, blurting out, "What happened!? Where is she!?""Sheesh, relax. It's all taken care of, all the bandits, the leader included, are locked up in the carriage. Good thing we brought so many handcuffs, there were just about enough to shackle all of them. I also found a roll of tape in the back of the carriage, so I put rocks in their

"What? An Apex Mage? You encountered an Apex Mage!?" Blurted out Ifeus in disbelief. "Yeah, you can check with the Knight Mages if you don't believe us, we just turned all the bandits in before coming back to the Guild," I informed him. Knight Mages are Mages who work under the command of the nation's Royal family, the majority of the Knight Mages are located in the capital, but there are small outposts in every city as well. They mainly serve as guards and also as a police force, and they're the ones in charge of the various prisons in the nation. They basically cover the bases that Guild Mages don't. "It's not that I don't believe you, I know you wouldn't lie about this, but...it's just that it's hard to believe, I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that you encountered an Apex Mage and made it out alive," He responded in bemusement. "Truth be told, we almost didn't make it out of that battle alive, that Apex Mage was seriously powerful," Chimed in Rex with a grimace. "Hm

Wasn't expecting that from you, Lilac," Remarked Rex in surprise."N-no, I...that wasn't me. I linked with the Dragon using Thought Communication and managed to free it from the control it was under, I was going to set it free after that. It was in a frenzy and immensely enraged, even though I managed to establish a telepathic link with it, I couldn't get it to listen to me. I think it thought that I was going to take control of it instead of letting it go, and it chose t

"Yes, of course, I completely agree."Hah, yeah right. Pretty sure this guy used to mock our Guild in the not so distant past, guess him showing genuine gratitude like this despite his previous attitude towards us means that the situation here must be pretty dire. After Sapphire wiped out all the Monsters around the capital in the direction we'd come from, we entered the city and made our way to the Praepotentia Guild. We came across a Goblin on the way in, I used Forced Tame on it to confirm that these Monsters are being controlled by someone with the same Class as me. We then arrived at the Guild shortly after, and there were a lot of people here, wit

  • Chapter 93 - Perpetually Exhausted

"Too slow. Come on, I know that you can do a lot better than that," Remarked Ifeus, before firing a telekinetic blast at me.I quickly countered with an Ether-negating wave, before firing a barrage of swirling Ether spheres at him. As my projectiles closed in on him, he vanished from sight, before I stiffened as I sensed him reappearing behind me.I began to fire out a shockwave of Ether from my body, before I found myself falling as he swept at my legs with his right foot, tripping me over. My left shoulder hit the ground with a painful thud, as I let out a weary groan..."Come on, man, give me a break...I haven't eaten anything in almost two full days now, and you only let me sleep for like two hours last night. I can't fight like this, I'm completely drained," I complained as I tried to catch my breath, my stomach rumbling and my vision blurring."Oh, don't worry...I'll let you have some food and a bit more sleep tonight. But there's still a few hours before night time, so we're no

Point-of-View: Lilac Lero———————————————————————————"Damn it, I miss To," I sighed irritably, feeling restless and impatient."Yes, I know, you've been saying that every single day, multiple times a day, for the last month. I'm sure he'll be back soon, try thinking about something else in the meantime," Responded Iris as she gave me a pat on the head."Don't patronize me, you stupid gorilla...""...just this once, I'll let that slide. But only once, got it?"Yeah, whatever. Today's the 15th of August, 505 PA, and we were currently on our way to the capital, Rosnoir City. There had been an immense spike in the number of Monsters around the capital, attacking around the outskirts of the city. Which is very unusual behavior for Monsters, they tend to dislike hunting in unfamiliar territory. Though, from what we've heard, they're not hunting, they're just attacking and killing without really eating the people they kill. Which is even more unusual and unnatural for Monsters. Even smal

  • Chapter 91 - Ambushed(Part 2)

I quickly set up an Ether-negating barrier over the alley, ducking as one of the people surrounding me flung a dagger at me, narrowly avoiding it. It's likely that all their weapons have been coated in poison, a single hit might be all it takes to kill me. This is bad...including the woman who'd tricked me, there's eight of them surrounding me right now. The odds are heavily stacked against me, I have absolutely no margin of error here..."How troublesome, it would seem as though we can't use our Magic," Remarked one of them, as they circled around me."It's not a problem. This is just a minor inconvenience, it's no great obstacle.""You know, I'm starting to feel kinda insulted!" I snapped, forming a ring of Ether around me before rapidly expanding it outwards towards them while narrowing and sharpening the edges of the ring. Some of them managed to duck under it, while the rest sprang above it to dodge the attack, several knives coming flying in towards me from multiple directions

Well, this was a massive waste of time. What gives? The hell is going on here, anyway? I mean, seriously, who sent me that letter? Somehow, I don't think this was just some dumb prank... On the bright side, I get to go home now, and since Ifeus is here, I just need to meet back up with him and he can teleport me right back to Skyrouge City. So, at least I don't have to worry about taking the long journey back by carriage. Still though, I'm kinda pissed, I don't like that I just wasted a whole lot of time on nothing. As I walked down the street, muttering to myself irritably, I was snapped out of it as someone came jogging this way, trying to swerve out of the way as they closed in on me, but in their rush, failed to fully get out the way and ended up bumping into me, getting knocked down with an alarmed cry as I stumbled back a bit before regaining my balance."Uh, sorry about that, are you okay?" I inquired, offering my hand to help them up. It was a young woman, she was carrying a

"Uh...I don't know, this sounds really fishy," I frowned apprehensively."I understand your concerns, but I can assure you, this client is a trustworthy sort. The letter appears to be authentic, this is definitely his seal...so, I don't think there's anything to worry about," Replied Ifeus, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder."Still...given what happened on the last Quest you sent me out on, I figured I'd have to stay cooped up at home for the foreseeable future," I sighed wistfully."Yes, you seem to be quite disappointed that that's not the case. The thought did cross my mind, of course, but no, I won't be doing that...it may be the safer option, but if you just stay at home indefinitely, you're not going to get very much stronger, Topaz. And with the way things have been going lately, you need to get as strong as possible, as fast as possible. And the best way to do that is to keep building your experience level," He surmised, a slightly conflicted look on his face.I mean, I

"I see, that sounds like it must have been a pretty harrowing experience. I'm glad the both of you are okay, at least," Remarked Iris, as she slumped back in the couch and munched on a chip."Yeah, that could've ended up a lot worse than it did. It really helped that that girl, Luxuria, just kept talking. I probably wouldn't have broken free from her control otherwise," I replied with a grimace, before adding, "Anyway, based on what you said about your Quest, it sounds like things didn't go too much better for you."It was the next day, around 5 PM in the evening. Iris's group got back from their failed Quest early this morning, and she'd just woken up about half an hour ago. She had a bite to eat, and then joined Lilac and I in playing some board games. Before we long, we got to talking about our Quests yesterday... "It was a disaster...we failed to protect our client, and while I'm not too torn up about his death, he was a real asshole, the fact that I was so completely helpless to
