I wonder what it could be? Well, only one way to find out. I then locked my gaze onto the display, focusing on it...I should be able to control it with my mind.
It should display my Class, which Tiers I've currently unlocked, and the Arts and Traits that I possess, as well as any Arts or Traits that I haven't yet learned but am eligible for.And it should also display my Ether Capacity, Maximum Ether Output and Power Level, along with numerical values for my various physical abilities. The active abilities that Mages use are called Magical Arts, or just Arts for short. There are also passive abilities that can be unlocked by specific Classes, abilities that are constantly active, called Magical Traits, or Traits for short. As for Power Level, it's a value derived from a person's Ether Capacity, Maximum Ether Output, Casting Distance and their various physical attributes. I'm not sure what the exact formula is, though.Okay, let's see here...show me my Class! The display then opened up, revealing what I was looking for-...huh?It says...Wrath Class. What is that? That's not a Mage Class I've ever heard of...let's see, the Classes are Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light, Dark, Space, Tamer, Support, Physical and Sneak. So...what is this Wrath Class that's on my display?Uh...okay, let's set that aside for now, which Tiers do I have unlocked? Okay, Basic Tier is Brawler...that's the same Basic Tier as the Physical Class. Hm? Oh, I've got an Ascended Tier too...no way, that's awesome! And it's called...Ether Mage? What?Wrath Class, and Ascended Tier Ether Mage...I've never heard of either of these before.Let's see what abilities I have from this Class...okay, my Basic Tier, Brawler, has some of the usual Traits that are found in the Physical Class. As for my Ascended Tier-...huh? Just three Arts?"Aren't Ascended Tiers supposed to have a whole bunch of different abilities?" I muttered, before reading the description of the abilities in my Ascended Tier, "It says 'Ether Materialization: Physically Materialize Ether, Maximum Output Upto 35', next one is 'Ether Modelling: Control Manipulate and Shape Ether', and the last one says 'Ether Emission: Fire Out Materialized Ether'. Oh, there's also a Trait...'Ether Detection'. Looks like a sensory ability."This doesn't make sense...Ether is supposed to be an energy source for Mages, it fuels their Magic. It's also infused into things like Elixirs, which are potions with special properties enhanced and augmented by Ether. So, what do 'Materialize, Model and Emit Ether' even mean? Maybe I can covert my Ether into a physical form? What would that even look like? I suppose I might as well test it out and find out.Once a Mage becomes consciously aware of an ability, they can use it by reciting the chant. Initially, most Mages need a bit of time to cast an Art, which can be fatal in battle. However, by concentrating while visualizing the specific ability they want to use, and then mastering that ability by getting a sense for how it feels and practicing with it, they can use it like it's second nature to them, which allows then to cast their Arts much faster. That method taken a step further can give a Mage the ability to cast their Arts without the need for any chants. But that's pretty rare, even most Apex Mages can't cast their Arts without chanting, chantless casting is a fairly uncommon skill. On another note, I'm now convinced that I didn't lose my memories by accident...all my knowledge is clear and concise in my mind, but I don't remember how or when I learnt any of this. It's clear to me now, everything that I can't remember are memories that relate to my past and me personally...who I am, the people I knew, where I'm from, what I've been through...there's nothing in my memories about any of that. But I can clearly remember what I've learnt about the history and geography of the world, I was able to read my Magic System display without a problem, and I'm pretty sure I can write just fine too.Which means, whoever or whatever erased or sealed my memories-...really hope it's the latter...-selectively choose which memories to target and which to leave unaffected.Hm...the most likely explanation is that it was caused by a Nox Mage, the Apex Tier of the Dark Class. From what I know, they can use powerful mind control and brainwashing type Arts...but like I said before, Apex Mages are highly rare, there's rarely ever been more than ten in a single nation at any given point.Well, whatever, I suppose there's no point in agonizing over it now, I doubt there's anything I can do about it even if I did know the truth about my past and how I ended up like this. And besides, it's mentally wearing me out and making me feel really anxious. Meanwhile, I'm pretty curious and a bit excited about seeing what this whole Wrath Class thing is about, and what I can do with it.I'm still a bit skeptical about the whole Ether Materialization thing, but since it's called the Wrath Class, which sounds pretty cool, I'm cautiously hopeful and expectant. But I'll temper those hopes and expectations, don't want to set myself up for disappointment. Before I go, let's see what level my other stats are at-...oh, come on!The first stat displayed is Ether Capacity, and uh...mine's not normal. Ordinarily, a person starts out with an Ether Capacity of somewhere between 10-50, though there are exceptions, some people possess higher Ether Capacity levels right from the get go.The average Ether Capacity for humans is around 200, while the maximum is a 1000. It usually requires reaching an Ether Capacity of around 350 for a person to unlock their Ascended Tier, and then around 700 to unlock their Apex Tier.As for my Ether Capacity...there's no numeric value displayed. Instead, it reads as 'Ether Capacity: ???'...does that mean I have no Ether? No, that should be impossible, a human body can't survive without Ether. In fact, if a Mage drains their Ether Capacity, they'll fall into a coma, some even die when their Ether is burnt through. So it's very unlikely that I possess no Ether, it's just unquantifiable by my Magic System for some reason. Guess I'll have to discern my Ether Capacity manually, by using Magic until I'm low on Ether, and estimate how much I've used up.When a Mage starts to run low on Ether, immense fatigue sets in, as a sort of biological warning to stop using Magic for a while, until the Ether gets replenished...well, whatever, I can do that later. For right now, let's look at my other stats. My stats are displayed as...'Ether Capacity: ???''Maximum Ether Output: 18''Strength: 25''Speed: 22''Durability: 30''Agility: 22''Power Level: ???'Oh, wow. Ignoring and setting aside the questions marks, the rest of my stats aren't bad at all...my Maximum Ether Output is well above the human average of 10. And the average for all four physical stats are about 15, so I'm well above average with those too. My durability is especially high, interesting. Gotta say, wouldn't have guessed that's the case since my body is kinda scrawny and slender, guess I'm more sturdily built than I thought. It does make sense that my numbers are above average though, since my Ascended Tier is unlocked. That said, my Agility and Speed stats are a bit low for an Ascended Mage, while my Strength stat is just about a fraction below average. It also makes sense that my Power Level isn't showing up and displays '???' instead, just like with my Ether Capacity stat. After all, since Ether Capacity is the main factor in calculating Power Level, and my Ether Capacity isn't showing up, it's only natural that my Power Level can't be calculated. I should also
My name is Topaz Oriole, and I have amnesia. I'm apparently fourteen years old, born on the 20th of April, in the year 490 PA. The current year is 504 PA, and PA stands for Post-Apocalypse. I'll get to that later. The first memory I have is waking up in an unfamiliar room, before being greeted by an unfamiliar man who claimed to be my guardian, and who turned out to be a bit of a pain in the ass with all his secrecy. It's been a month since then, and I have to say, this place is pretty comfortable. It's a two-story house with a big garden out front and a backyard, with four rooms on the upper floor. Since Ifeus is a Guildmaster, he's seriously loaded. Possibly most importantly, the meals are great too. The bathroom here is massive, it even has a sauna and a jacuzzi, which I don't think I've experienced before...with trying certain things, I sometimes get a sense of familiarity and deja vu, which likely means I've experienced them before. Like with eating certain foods, and also my
After gaining an understanding and comprehension over Ether, the Seven Gods pooled their newfound knowledge and intelligence to establish the Magic System that exists together, giving the people the ability to stably harness their powers and halting the widespread, rampant mutations. Apparently, the way the Magic System works is based on technology that existed before the disaster, the display that a Mage sees when they enter their subconscious was apparently created with the lost technology as a basis for its layout and functionality. However, simply establishing the Magic System wasn't enough to bring an end to the chaos and mayhem in the new, post-apocalyptic world...the Seven Gods soon realized that the core of the issue was that the people who had undergone physical changes were discriminating against those who looked different to them. That's when they decided to take on the role of Gods, appearing before the people with overwhelming displays of power to get their attention.
"Ugh, so bright...," I muttered to myself as I yawned, dragging my my feet avorss my room and opening up the light box, squinting my eyes as a bright glow shone out of it. Oh, right, I mentioned before that all technology that existed before the Ether Apocalypse five hundred years ago no longer exists, let me explain what technology is like in the current era. Most things are powered using various forms of crystallized Ether, which are known as Vitrea. They're crystals with special properties that form under certain conditions, used for a variety of things, like lighting, heating, cooling, cooking and so on. For lighting, we use what's known as Light Vitrea, crystals that form in areas exposed to heavy sunlight, like deserts. They produce light indefinitely by continually absorbing Ether from the surrounding air. The only way to switch them off is to enclose them in lead, which blocks the flow of Ether. So Light Vitrea usually come in lead boxes that can be mounted on walls or ceil
"Ow...that really hurt, I think it's broken...," I groaned, rubbing my nose gingerly as I got back up, rubbing the area above my upper lip as blood trickled out of my nostrils. "You have a bad habit of freezing up every time I go on the offensive, at least try to react in some way, anything would be better than not moving at all. You'd be dead if this wasn't a wooden sword," Responded Iris, pointing the blunt blade at me as I stood up. "Maybe go a little easier, sis, don't you think you're kinda overdoing it?" Called out Lilac from the stairs, watching us as she sipped on a glass of apple juice while her snake slithered across her left arm. "The harder I am on him, the faster he'll improve.""Yikes, sure glad you aren't training me, you overpowered gorilla...," Muttered Lilac wryly. "Hm? What was that? You say something?""Nothing! Didn't say a word!"A couple more weeks have passed, and before this, I'd been spending a couple of hours each day training by myself. One hour in hand
"Knock knock, I'm coming in!""There's no point in saying that after you've already barged in, Li...or rather, instead of literally saying 'knock knock', just actually knock on the door like a normal person, and then wait till I say you can come in before barging in," I sighed in exasperation, as I set down my book. "Oh, never mind all that. Come on, I'm bored, let's hang out," She grinned in response. "I'll pass.""Don't be like that, I mean, it's not like you're doing anything important right now, so let's do something together," Lilac replied as she pulled on my arm. "On the contrary, I'm in the middle of reading, and it was just getting good...so leave me alone," I muttered wearily. About a week has passed, and it was currently early in the evening, a couple of hours after we'd had lunch. Iris and Ifeus were busy with the Magic Guild, so it was just Lilac and I in the house. Which sucks, because it means that all her attention inevitably lands on me. I spent a bit more time in
"What the hell!? Why's a square like this here right at the start!?" Exclaimed Lilac indignantly. "Hey, I tried to warn ya," I shrugged wryly, my ears perking up as the sound of the door opening echoed out as I picked up the dice and rolled it. I got a four...good, it's a safe spot... "I'm home, Lilac, Topaz!" Came Iris's voice, as she shut the door and the sound of her footsteps approaching echoed out. Hm? Why does Lilac look so tense? "Hey, you okay-...?" I started to ask her. "Crap, crap, crap!" She whispered sharply with an alarmed look in her eyes, snatching the box of cookies from me and looking around frantically before starting to slip the box under the couch. W-wait, don't tell me she... "Hey, you guys, what are you upt-...are those my cookies?" Iris began to greet us, before frowning and narrowing her eyes at Lilac, he voice going low and cold. Oh, no. This isn't good... "N-no...," Stuttered Lilac, as she slowly slid the box under the couch. You idiot, it's too lat
"Hey, you can let go of my arm, I'm not gonna run away," I sighed as she dragged me along with her as usual. "It's not that, you just walk way too slowly on your own," She replied, as she led me to the back door, leading out into the yard behind the house. "No, you just walk too fast...""Oh, please, I've seen old ladies who walk faster than you, you're so lazy, To," She grinned as she opened the door and stepped out, finally letting go of my arm. "Whatever...okay, so what is it that you want to show me? Did you tame a new Monster or animal?" I inquired, glancing in the direction of the shed. She possesses the Tamer Class, currently at the Basic Tier, which is also called Tamer. She's pretty close to reaching the required level to unlock her Ascended Tier though, which is called Summoner. And the Apex Tier of the Tamer Class is called Assimilater, though no one of the Tamer Class has reached that Apex in over a century. Mainly because the Tamer Class is among the least popular Cla
