Chapter 3

After I finished my conversation with Stella she flew off with her wind magic. I guess I should start going now before the other people that live here show up. It would be more trouble than it’s worth to explain what happened here.

From the looks of it I just need to climb down the mountain I’m on with these stairs leading down and I’ll be at the bottom. Actually, before I go I wonder where Stella killed the real guide. If she killed them wouldn’t there be some sort of sign of battle? I doubt the guide would go down without a fight. Could they have had no magic? Even then what happened to their body, where did Stella leave it? Why isn’t their body here?

I should stop thinking about this. I’m contradicting myself. I shouldn’t be wasting my time on this when I don’t have enough information to come up with a conclusion. Before I left I decided to scan the area around me but there were no signs that stood out besides the other corpses.

No signs of it, nothing I can do then. I should get moving now before it gets too late. There should be a city or village nearby since Stella said she would lead the way and I wouldn’t imagine it would lead us to the middle of nowhere. Then again, she could have just said that to make it seem like she was going to lead us there.

Overthinking won’t do me any favors so I might as well just walk and see where it leads me to. Hopefully what Stella said wasn’t a lie.

I climbed down the stairs and walked straight for about four hours until I reached a mountain. Once I climbed and reached the peak I was able to see a town not too far from it. It only took about an hour to reach the town once I got to the bottom.

The town wasn’t of a decent size. It was dark already by this time so I followed the light coming from the street lanterns. Soon after I could feel someone’s gaze on me, I looked around and found the person. The one staring me down was a woman that appeared to be a housewife.

I decided to go up to her to get some directions to an inn if there was one nearby.

“Hey, do you know of any inns nearby?”

“There’s one on the third left, you’ll eventually see it if you keep walking.”

“Ok, thank you, Goodnight.”

“…”

Weird, why does she look at me like that? That distant look as if observing an animal. Maybe it’s because my clothes are different compared to what’s common here. Well it’s whatever, I got the information I needed.

I reached the inn thanks to her directions. Once I entered I went to speak with the receptionist.

“Can I get a room for one.”

“Yes we have room seven available on the second floor. That would be eight dollars.”

Oh I forgot, how do I even get money out of the bank command. Stella never explained how I’m supposed to do that.

“Excuse me, I don’t know how to take money out of the bank. Would you happen to know I do that?”

“Wait, could you perhaps be one of the new eight people that get summoned each year!? I heard it was going to happen soon.”

“Ya I just got here today so I’m not that knowledgeable on how this world works yet.”

“So what side did you choose?”

“I chose God’s side”

“Really? That’s nice.”

“Would that have been a problem if I wasn’t?”

“No, I was just just curious. Not like it would make much of a difference.”

The receptionist whispered her last words making it so Fran couldn’t hear.

“So you’re the only one that joined God’s side, that's unusual.”

“Well no, the others that chose God’s side got killed soon after.”

“Really!? That sucks just after coming here as well. That’s a shame. So how come only you survived?”

“Just got left alive on a whim.”

Why is this lady so energetic to a customer she just met? Is it part of her personality? But that doesn’t make sense to me. She gives me an odd feeling when talking to her.

“Well at least you survived and better yet they were random people. It would have hurt a lot if you knew them.”

She paused for a moment, lost in the moment, but brought herself back to her senses.

“A-anyways to take money out of the bank you say settings, then say bank and then say the amount you want to withdraw.”

“Settings, bank, withdraw eight dollars, here’s the money.”

I wonder why money just pops up from thin air from saying that command.

“Thank you and here’s the key to your room. By the way, do you know how to use magic yet?”

“No, I haven’t gotten the chance to learn how to use it yet but I do plan on learning how to use it.”

“There’s an old guy at the edge of town that teaches people how to use magic so you might want to ask him if he can teach you. Although it all depends if you meet his standards because he seems to be picky on who he reduces so don’t get your hopes up.”

“Ok I’ll go tomorrow then, thank you for the information.”

“Seems like I’ve kept you here for a long time. You probably want to go to your room already so goodnight.”

“Not at all thank you for helping me and I hope you have a goodnight.”

I took the key and went to my room and sat in the chair that was inside it.

I guess I should go to sleep early and get some rest for tomorrow.

It’s the next morning, I check the clock on the desk and see that it’s 8:00 AM. I get out of bed and go back to the entrance.

Actually, come to think about it, I don’t know where the person that teaches magic lives. I guess I should ask the receptionist for directions so I don’t waste time wandering around looking for it.

I decided to greet her with a smile.

“Good morning.”

“Good morning.”

“So you said that there’s someone that teaches people how to use magic right? Could you give me directions of where they live so I can go over there and ask if they’ll teach me.”

“I can tell you but I suggest you don’t get your hopes up like i told you last night. That old man isn’t friendly at all and I’ve heard he hasn’t even accepted anybody that’s asked him to teach them.”

She crossed her arms and furrowed her brows as she described him.

“Is that so, do you know why and how to get on his good side?”

“I haven’t seen him talk to anyone in the village x he just stays at home at the edge of town so I don’t know if he even has a good side. Him teaching magic is something I’m not sure about either since I’ve heard he hasn’t accepted teaching anyone so he might have high standards to teach. It could also just end up being nothing more than rumors.”

“Well that sure doesn’t sound promising on getting him to teach me but hopefully he does or I’ll be in trouble without knowing how to use magic. Well I’ll never know until I try, so what are the directions to where he lives.”

“When you go outside, go to your left and keep going straight until the road ends and then you’ll see a house by itself, that’s where he lives.”

“Ok thanks for the directions. I’ll see you later then, goodbye.”

I waved her goodbye.

“Goodbye and good luck.”

I followed her directions and it didn’t take more than ten minutes to reach the end of the road. The house was two stories with its own farm and crops. I walked up to the house and began to knock on his door.

“Is anyone home?"
