Chapter 04 - Looking Down On Rex Magnus With Contempt

Just after the voice finished sounding breathless, another footstep began to walk in.

But unlike the first one, this footstep sounded more elegantly and quiet to the extent that nobody would have heard had the place not been completely quiet after everybody heard the servant's report.

Also, apart from how quiet and elegant this footstep is sounding, everybody could already tell how influential and great the person must be with how unhurried the footsteps were coming.

Everybody instantly forgot themselves and turned their gazes hotly to the door.

Even the old matriarch wasn’t expecting this visitor at all.

She currently is flabbergasted to her very core right now.

Of cause, everybody knows the Bottoms family like the back of their hands.

Although it wasn’t the most powerful and influential family in Chase city, it had been standing amidst the top second-ranked families for years without shaking at all, while the Johnson family, although they were also powerful, they weren’t even ranked amongst the top thirtieth families at all.

To be honest, it wasn’t always like this before, and in fact, the Johnson family had once been like the Bottoms families, even slightly above it.

Everything had changed three years ago after the death of the person carrying the family.

Immediately the news of the death spread then, the Johnsons family's position was instantly shifted below the twentieth mark, which was maintained for a year before the old Patriarch died.

And now, they were only barely standing on the 32nd rank which is already greatly shaking right now.

Perhaps, it could even lower before tomorrow.

So when everybody and the old Matriarch heard the identity of the visitor, they couldn’t believe it.

The Old Matriarch began to tremble wildly with joy. But even so, she doesn’t forget the thing she deemed the most important right now.

‘It was when that stupid husband of mine decided to marry his granddaughter to this misfortune-filled fool that things started getting worst for this family. Shouldn’t I dispose of him first before he ruins this great opportunity for me?’

Thinking of this, the old Matriarch suddenly returned to her senses before abruptly turning to the person who had come to report the presence of Alan Bottoms.

“Please, help me send this fool out now before he ruins everything for us.”

Hearing the order, the servant instantly bowed respectfully before glaring at Rex Magnus

“Do you need me to drag you out forcefully or would you respect yourself and invite yourself out?” The servant threatened Rex Magnus quietly in a way that only the two of them heard.

Hearing this, Rex Magnus couldn’t help but suddenly sigh.

He wasn’t new to this.

Including the cats and dogs of the Jonhson family, everybody always looks down, disrespects, and ridicules him.

Seeing how his husband was being treated, Fiona couldn’t help but suddenly feel pained and was about to step forward to stop this when she abruptly felt an extremely hot gaze on her.

Turning her head in that direction, she realized it was her mother.

She is currently warning her with her eyes not to get involved.

Seeing this, Fiona hesitated a bit before eventually deciding to do as her mother warned her.

‘He is still my husband at the end of the day.’

Instantly becoming saddened, Fiona's emotion became mournful, so she cast her gaze down again.

Rex Magnus who happened to be gazing at Fiona at the same time noticed this, and although he felt slightly pained, he decided to go take a breather outside.

Looking emotionlessly at the servant, Rex Magnus turned around and walked toward the exit.

Just as he took three steps forward, the anticipated person also walked in.

Everybody's eyes instantly widen further when they saw this person, then as if he was some sort of great celebrity, the eyes of the ladies present began to flash with bright light while deep enviousness began to slowly appear on the men's faces.

The person walking in elegantly is a tall and handsome man who is dressed in a shiny suit that wasn't cheap at all by the look of it.

Although his beauty wasn’t able to hold a candle beside Rex Magnus', he definitely could control ladies' hearts with his standing alone.

This person is Alan Bottoms, one of the most popular young masters within Chase City.

The moment he stepped in, he saw the man with otherworldly beauty going out and suddenly, Just as Rex Magnus reached his side, Alan Bottoms stopped on his track.

“Are you Rex Magnus?” He suddenly questioned arrogantly without looking at Rex Magnus' side at all.

Squinting his eyes at this abrupt question filled with contempt, Rex Magnus couldn’t help but suddenly become furious.

It’s only to his wife and her family he was always submissive to, but to outsiders, Rex Magnus would never accept any shit.

Although he wasn’t the divine general anymore, his pride is still within him, tightly etched into his bones and marrows.

Not to mention that he doesn’t even know who this person is.

Well, it wasn’t that he also have intentions of knowing at all.

But not wanting to cause any issue for his wife's sake, Rex Magnus decided to respond

“Yes.” He acknowledged emotionlessly.

Hearing this, Alan Bottoms' mouth abruptly twitched slightly, then he suddenly glanced judgingly at Rex Magnus from head to toe.

‘Definitely as described, useless!’ He snickered.

“Are you the live-in Son-in-law of this family?’ he questioned again, still sounding very arrogantly.

Right now, everybody was already looking extremely confused, wondering within their minds how the powerful young master Alan Bottoms could have known about Rex Magnus and his identity.

“What a lucky bastard!!” Ethan suddenly muttered behind his breath before abruptly glancing at his grandmother who is still in a stupor state.

‘Why is grandma acting dumb at this sort of time? Does she want that useless fool to steal my goodies for himself?’

Feeling urgent, Ethan couldn’t help but suddenly tiptoe to the old matriarch.

“Grandma, shouldn’t you go welcome the visitor now?”

The old matriarch instantly returned to her senses before giving her precious grandson a thankful gaze and walking forward respectfully.

“Yes, I am.”

Rex Magnus also eventually responded to Alan Bottoms' question again.

Although right now, Rex Magnus is beginning to look extremely irritated and might say something that's going to turn him into the greatest villain of all time if Alan Bottoms doesn’t know what's good for him and keep questioning him, he remained calm.

Just as Rex Magnus was busy furrowing his brows irritatingly, Alan Bottoms' voice continued again, still laced with arrogance.

“You know, this name of yours is a great sin for the like of a person like you, right?”

“Hun?!!!”

Everybody abruptly became dumbfounded when they heard the unexpected disdain, ridicule, and contempt loud and clear in Alan Bottoms' voice.

Before they could react, he continued.

“Rex Magnus, the name of a God-like being, the legend, hero, and deceased Divine General of our country who is still worshiped by the whole world till day. How could an ordinary mortal as you bare it? Aren’t you afraid of heaven's punishment?”

“Oh!!!”

Everybody ultimately realized what he was talking about, then they found what he just said extremely fair enough.

‘Was he truly not afraid of heaven's wrath for sharing names with a God?’

‘I would have forgotten about this if not for this great young master. How could this useless son-in-law share names with the powerful divine general?’

Everybody began to think and remember the legend behind the late divine general. And the more they think, the more they despised Rex Magnus and ridicule him in their heart.

But Rex Magnus, the man of the topic.

Right now, all the waves of anger previously brewing within him at Alan Bottoms who doesn’t know what was good for him had already disappeared completely.

‘So people still remember me?’

He couldn’t help but suddenly sigh in his heart.

‘Is this news a good or a bad one?’

Just as Rex Magnus was busily thinking, the old Matriarch finally arrived respectfully before Alan Bottoms.
