Chapter 5

After Vernon stored the snake's body, he searched around for items that could be used to summon.

"Young master, this is the item we are looking for," Naomi said. She currently held a small gold-coloured crystal in her hand that seemed to glow.

Vernon slowly picked up the crystal and surprisedly said, "This is quite a good item. The gold crystal in the previous Open Universe game was quite a good item for summoning characters. I didn't expect to find an item from the Open Universe on this Osud Continent."

After that Vernon spoke again, "All this is because of your help, thank you, Naomi."

"What you said, helping the young master, is what I should be doing," Naomi says.

Vernon smiled and said, "Then let's leave the cave and return to the village. If I don't return for a long time, the people in the village will be worried."

"Yes, young master," Naomi replied, and then she disappeared again.

Vernon kept the gold crystal in his inventory and left the cave. It was almost dark when he saw the sky outside, so Vernon rushed out of the forest and walked to the village. After arriving at the village, Vernon went home and did not tell anyone about today's events.

The days passed quickly again.

Today was when Vernon and the three previous children travelled to a nearby town for an elemental match test.

"Listen, Vernon, while there, you must follow the witches' directions well," Vernon's father reminded Vernon.

During the element match test, participants will be escorted there by a committee of witches prepared from the academy, so Vernon's father must remind Vernon to behave properly.

"Don't forget to eat your lunch when you're hungry," said Vernon's mum.

"Yes, I understand," Vernon said to his parents.

"All participants to come quickly; we will be leaving soon," said one of the people wearing a fighter suit. Usually, witches do not come alone to pick up participants but pay adventurers to help them pick up the participants.

"Then Mum and Dad, I'll go first," Vernon said, quickly walking to the waiting carriage. Likewise, his other friends from this village also got into the carriage. The horse-drawn carriage began its journey to another village. This horse-drawn carriage will pick up children from several other villages first and then head to the city.

There were other children on the train. A man of about 35 was wearing a fighter's outfit, a sword around his waist.

After passing through about five villages, the carriage finally moved towards the town. Vernon looked from the carriage in awe. A huge wall stood strongly, protecting the city. Vernon was sure that with this wall, the city could be defended even if the number of enemies doubled that of the city's defence forces.

This horse-drawn carriage entered the city without paying an entrance fee. Of course, there's no need to pay; after all, the carriage bears the emblem of the Academy of Magic, so no one dares to stop the carriage's movement.

The town was much more lively than in the village. Vernon could see various kinds of shops open around the streets in this town. Although it was not as crowded as the town on Vernon's earth, it was still much more crowded than in the village.

The chariot stopped at a large building in the city. The fighting man exited the carriage and said, "You can get out of the carriage and enter the door slowly. I will only take you here; you will enter the building and start your test. You will return to the carriage when you are done, and I will take you back home."

Hearing the words of the fighting man, Vernon and the other children began to get out of the carriage one by one and walked into the designated building.

After everyone entered, suddenly, beside the previous fighting man, came out someone who was the chariot courier; the chariot courier said, "Do you think anyone will become a wizard this time?"

Hearing the carriage courier's words, the fighting man could only smile bitterly and said, "We've been doing this job for ten years, and so far, only one person has accepted. Even that was accepted from the area around us ten years ago, and that child was from a noble family. You'd think these children would have a match with the elements. But in fact, very few people have a match with the elements. Even from this town alone, it has been more than five years since we have been able to produce a child who has a match for the elements again."

The carriage courier nodded and sighed, "Yes, you are right. Even a noble child admitted just seven years ago from our city only has a one-element match and is already considered quite talented. But I heard that if you become an apprentice wizard, many noble families and even royal families will recruit you by giving expensive rewards."

"That's not going to happen to us. How about we have lunch while we wait for them?" the fighting man said.

"Alright," then the two people went to find lunch.

Vernon entered the building. After entering, there were a few seats for waiting, then only a door guarded by someone wearing a white robe.

After everyone entered the room, the white-robed person immediately spoke, "All of you line up neatly. Then, you will enter one by one. You can only enter through this door after the person who entered before has left. If you understand, then start lining up."

"Listen, someone will be testing you, so follow his advice. If you don't match any element, don't cry and leave the room immediately to avoid disturbing the next person coming in."

Soon, all the children in this room, including Vernon, started lining up in front of the door. Then, a boy standing at the front started entering the room.

After waiting about five minutes the child who entered the room earlier came out crying that he couldn't be a wizard. After all, almost all children are interested in becoming witches. Everyone is interested in having a lot of money and strong powers; therefore, almost all children are interested in becoming witches.

Seeing the crying boy, the man in the white robe immediately frowned and shouted angrily, "I told you before. If you are not selected, then stop crying and come out. Don't disturb the other participants."

Seeing the angry white-robed witch, the boy was frightened and immediately ran out of the building while continuing to cry. Seeing that Vernon felt a little sorry for the boy, but there was nothing Vernon could do.

Then, the people in the second row began to enter the door. Vernon looked at his position in line and couldn't help but say, "It seems that I still have to wait a very long time for my test."
