Chap. 3 A Condition from Abraham

"Uncle Peter," called Magdalena, who was very disheveled.

"Miss Morris was being bullied by drunks; we found her on the street and took her home with us," Jonathan said, who saw Magdalena frightened.

"Come in quickly, Master, must be angry because Miss doesn't want to obey his orders to pick by the driver when you come home from school," said Abraham Morris personal assistant, named Peter.

"O-okay," Magdalena was scared and wanted to hurry inside. But her steps stopped when the figure she feared was standing in front of her. The white-haired man wearing bathrobe pajamas looked at her sharply.

"What happened, Lena?" The middle-aged man's deep voice sounded terrifying.

"Dad," Magdalene looked down in fear.

"Young people are always like this, Mr. Morris." Jonathan's voice intervened between the two.

"Smith," called Abraham flatly. Who does not know Jonathan Smith, the wealthiest man in this country? But with Abraham's stubborn nature, he would neither bow down nor honor him like the sycophants out there. Many people flocked to Jonathan to ask for a job or a business that could be profitable for them. But for Abraham, a person's social status cannot affect his existence.

"Good evening, Mr. Morris. I am interested in meeting you tonight, my personal assistant has made an appointment with your assistant, and according to the report, you agree," said Jonathan firmly. As a reliable businessman, he speaks fluently with people with a demanding nature like Abraham.

"Peter," Abraham called to his assistant.

"Tonight's guest who will meet you is Mr. Jonathan Smith, sir." Peter looked down.

"Hmm..." Abraham looked at Jonathan, then turned to his daughter, Magdalena. He saw his daughter staring at Jonathan with admiration. While the wealthiest man who was his guest tonight did not pay the slightest attention to the view of the main heir of the Morris family. Abraham took a deep breath.

"Lena, come in!" commanded Abraham.

Magdalena gasped in surprise, then lowered her head. "Okay, Dad," Magdalena said obediently. The girl glanced at Jonathan before stepping into the Morris family's luxurious mansion.

"Come in, Smith." Abraham walked away, leaving Jonathan and Peter behind. Peter signals Jonathan to follow in his master's footsteps.

The Morris family mansion is grand, an old building with robust Romanesque architecture. Ideally suited to Abraham's cold and harsh nature. This mansion is on a hill and has a massive yard behind the villa; in the left corner, there is a barracks containing several selected horses. There is also a greenhouse containing various flowers opposite the horse barracks.

Entering the mansion, Jonathan saw a very classic interior design. It seems that Abraham is not the type who likes to follow current trends. It was clear; all the knick-knacks in the room looked old but very antique.

"Not as fancy as your house, but no less expensive than the price." Abraham's voice jolted Jonathan, who was looking at the things and the design of the living room of the Morris mansion.

"Master, dinner is ready." Peter came to report.

"Hmmm," Abraham headed for the table without turning to Jonathan.

"Come on, Mr. Smith." Peter takes his place, inviting Jonathan.

Abraham sat at the end of the dining table. The rectangular table has only three chairs. Peter invited Jonathan to sit at the opposite end with Abraham. They are separated by a long table. A moment later, the waiter came out, bringing the dinner dish. One serves Abraham, and the other helps Jonathan. While Peter stood beside Abraham.

"Let's eat." Abraham's brief greeting was greeted by Jonathan by took the glass of champagne up and sipped it respectfully. While Abraham did the same and ate in silence. Not long after, Magdalena came downstairs with a neat and clean appearance. Her blonde hair was left loose, looking beautiful for an 18-year-old girl.

"Sit down," Abraham ordered Magdalena to sit on a nearby chair. Usually, there are only two chairs at the dining table. One for Abraham and the other for Magdalena. But tonight, with Jonathan's arrival, Abraham ordered his servant to provide an extra seat.

"Have a good meal, Dad." Magdalena was used to her father's coldness. She ate in silence.

After dinner, Abraham sent Magdalena upstairs. Meanwhile, he and Jonathan entered the study room. Abraham sat in his oversized chair, staring intently at Jonathan.

"Tell me, what is your interest in meeting me tonight," said Abraham Without further ado.

"I want a business license in the Virginia city. Anything you want, sir. I'll get it." offered Jonathan.

"Our treasures passed down from generation to generation will never run out to be wasted. I don't need money like people who like to lick you."

"Then… what conditions do you ask for?"

"Next week, accompany my daughter to dinner."
