Chapter 30

“You won't believe it,” Blade whispered, his voice barely a hiss. He moved closer to his boss, Jack, his eyes wide with a mix of disbelief and dawning horror.

Jack raised an eyebrow with a curious expression. “What is that?”

“Mr. Andrew actually sent Remy,” Blade replied, his voice shaking slightly. The weight of the revelation settled on him, heavy and suffocating.

Jack’s eyes widened in surprise and for a minute, he couldn't say a word.

But after a while, he spoke up “Mr. Owen's warning about dining with the devil suddenly feels very real, doesn't it?” He said, a hint of apprehension creeping into his voice as he was lost in thought.

Jack nodded grimly. “We should be more careful,” he confessed. The earlier excitement of the potential deal was replaced by a gnawing sense of unease. He recalled Mr. Owen's sage advice, delivered with a knowing smile just days prior: “Someone who dines with Mr Andrew needs a longer spoon.”
