Chapter 6

Jack knew he was in for a long thing by the time he would get back to work. He needed to get back to the office even though he knew he looked like one who had home to work on a farm; his dark silk hair was rough and tousled, nearly covering his eyes. He also had dirt all over his white shirt, which was already looking rumpled.

He had to trek back to work as he had exhausted the money he had on him already. But thank goodness that his office isn't too far from where he was. It's just some street before his workplace, like a twenty to thirty-minute trek.

On his way, he was thinking of his boss. He considered trying his luck with him again, but he had a lot of doubts, knowing how strict he was with money.

He was already right in the hotel building.

With a ding, the elevator doors opened, and next, he was in his office.

“Do you have any idea if the boss is around?” He asked Josh immediately, and he walked in, but Josh was busy staring at him the way he looked so rough.

Jack was still having contradictory feelings about going to meet Mr. Charles or not. Then he noticed his colleague was at his table.

“Why are you seated comfortably on my desk and using my computer?” Jack asked with some sense of anger.

Josh looked at him and ignored him.

"Please save me the energy and get to your table.”

“If you must know, I have taken over your position.”

“How? Just less than two hours ago, I left here, and you have taken my position.” Jack retorted and continued, “I am not in for jokes. Please go back to your desk.”

“I am serious, but if you doubt it, go and find out from the boss. This is your sack letter from human resources.” Josh said, pointing at the envelope on the table. “She brought it here after the boss asked her to prepare it.”

Jack picked up the letter from the table. He squinted to get a clearer view of the sack letter he had already opened.

“What!” Jack was utterly shocked. He knew he crossed his boundaries, but that shouldn't have resulted in dishing out with some guy who was on probation. He headed straight to his boss's office to confront him.

On getting close, he barged in without thinking twice.

Immediately after he entered the office, his heart was frozen in shock. The paper in his hand fell to the floor. He rubbed his eyes to be sure they weren't deceiving him. It took Jack a couple of seconds to process what his eyes captured and sent to his brain.

His wife, Nancy, was on top of his ex-boss, kissing him as if her life depended on it. Nancy was in a skimpy skirt that revealed her sexy-looking thighs.

“Who the heck is that?” Charles’ angry voice freaked out.

“Nancy!” Jack screamed. The scream did little to release the freeze in his heart.

“What is going on here?” He still managed to choke it off, unable to believe the betrayal.

His breathing had already become so rough that he thought his heart would stop breathing the next minute.

Nancy looked at him with a bit of surprise, but she didn't look panicked at all.

Jack made it a bit uncomfortable for Charles because the beast in Charles’ thighs was already surging with blood before Jack barged in.

“How dare you barge into my office without knocking?” Charles asked rudely, and Jack almost wondered if his eyes were hurting him.

“Why would you come into my office without knocking? What makes you think you have that right, huh?” Charles asked again, unapologetic about his actions.

Jack’s expression at that moment was unrivaled. He kept staring at Nancy and then at Charles like he had seen a ghost.

He couldn't believe his eyes. His shoulders trembled, and he felt his world was crumbling right before him.

Jack returned the faze to Nancy, blazing with so much fury that it was written all over his face.

With gritted teeth, he muttered, “I feel sorry for you.” Bringing his voice low but increasing its sharpness at the same time, he was short of words.

“Why would you feel sorry for me?” Nancy responded in a luscious tone. “Let me worry about that, but you should rather feel sorry for yourself.” She retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Jack’s heart shattered into a million pieces as he heard those words from Nancy. He could sense this betrayal from her—how she had suddenly been cold to him lately and denied him marital bedroom duties but he never thought it was happening behind his nose.

“Do I deserve this ill-treatment from you?” He asked with tears dripping down his cheeks.

Nancy looked into his eyes with a cold expression, unmoved by his tears.

“You deserve worse, Jack; besides, I don't give two fu*ks about your feelings.”

“But you know I love you, Nancy.”

“But you don't prove it.” All Nancy knew about proving love was lavishing money for her sake. “I need someone who can keep up with me, someone who can match my ambition, and certainly you don't fit in. Mr. Charles is one of the billionaires in the business world. He has a future, unlike someone like you, whose future is dim.”

Jack was beyond speech for a moment. He could not believe the level of shamelessness that his wife had ascended to.

‘Nancy was selling her body for money and connections, and she wasn't wavering at the thought; rather, she was proud of her decision.’ Jack thought.

He had heard his wife had clung onto hot shots to get to where she was, but he considered all that a rumor. But this very one was happening right before him.

Nancy walked close to Jack and said to him, “I should not have ever brought myself so low to have had anything to do with you. Only the thought of you irritates me.” She says to Jack rudely, and his mouth parted in shock, but he picked himself up immediately.

“Only God knows how many men you have slept with to gain favor; you are such a shameless woman.” Jack had no more gentleness in his expression; all that was left was distant aloofness.

Nancy was shocked by Jack’s newfound boldness. This was the first time Jack said such a thing to her. After 3 years of getting to know Jack, he was normally calm and collected, and as such, he rarely lost his temper.

“How dare you talk to me in such a manner?" She shouted as she moved forward and launched a slap over his face,

“KPA!,” causing him to hold his cheek.

“It's not my fault that I married a poor man who can't take proper care of me!” She yells at him. She went close to Mr. Charles and kissed him as Jack watched them.

“Let's go, baby.” Mr. Charles gently crossed his arm around Nancy’s waist as they headed to leave the office.

“Bring him out of my office and lock my office.” Mr. Charles instructed his security.

With a gruff shoulder nudge, Nancy cleared a path for herself, sending Jack reeling. She did not spare a glance at Jack, and she stepped out with Charles.

Jack's eyes almost bulged out of his socket as he stared at them. He was more embarrassed than shocked. He found it very difficult to comprehend how shameless his wife was.

He thought Nancy was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, but with time, he came to understand her better.
