Grover began to change his expression as he compared all four rules in his head. He suddenly burst out, saying the rules were unfair.

“Why are the rules so unfair? This should not be this way,” Grover began to complain as he saw no way out of the mess Raven had just created. At first, he thought he could win the big black and corny bird, but that was no longer the feeling he had after summing up the four rules he needed to abide by in order to win and conquer the spirit of the Raven.

Now he wished he had to fight the Raven instead of facing it on a board game with his opponent giving the rules.

“You are in no position to tell me what to do or what not to do, human! Now we are going to start the game, and there is no turning back. Besides, there is nothing unfair as long as strength is involved; if only you were strong, these complaints of unfairness would not have even come up,” Raven said, as he was already becoming pissed.

Grover knew and had to accept that this was a test of his p

Raven became depressed for a month and fifteen days. As the days went by, Raven stopped disturbing itself about what it could not change; it went on to decide that there was nothing on Earth for it anymore. It finally possessed the artifact it remained to date. When it was in the artifact, it felt like someone picked it up, and it contained a spell it knew was meant to absorb people into things, and it was surprised it knew it very well. The person appeared before him and, out of anger, asked what the person wanted to do with his master’s thing and why he was in his master’s house. The person, out of fear, was stammering.“You thief!” Raven thundered angrily as it possessed the thief and made him kill himself, and his soul was struggling to leave the artifact. Raven did what it did not believe it could do; it chanted another spell, and the soul of the intruder became bound to the artifact too and could not leave.Raven did that to a few others. The Council of Artifact Makers took the

Grover had to survey the idea that came to his mind slowly and carefully so he would not make any silly mistakes. The idea he had was that the main challenge was not to play the game but rather to outsmart Raven at its own game, which meant he just had to distract Raven from his initial plan of distracting him and get into his head. After he realized this, he began singing and did not think much about it again.“Are you ignoring me, little human? Why are you not playing?” Raven asked. “Do you want your three hours to run out and you die?” It added.“Relax; I have gotten used to the rules. Let us play now,” Grover said as he noticed that Raven was trying to hide something from him. His instincts to be right began tinkling, and he smiled as he made a silly-looking move that even a novice would not do.“You think you are going to win by making silly moves? Or you think I will pity you because you cannot play, which I know you can do quite well?” Raven said that it looked like Grover wa

With what Grover did, he already knew that he had won the Raven spirit; if he had not, the spirit would not be trying to find out what he did."Well, we both know that I have won this fight or game or whatever you call it, and there is nothing you can do about it, Mr. Raven,” Grover said, smiling at Raven, knowing fully well that he was taunting Raven.Seeing the look on Raven’s face, Grover laughed so hard that he held his stomach.Raven also laughed, trying to bring up a reversed psychological effect on Grover, but Grover was too clever for such a thing.“You think there is nothing I can do? We both know you cheated, and that alone should be a reason for me to take your soul without any further waste of time,” Raven said as it went further with the reverse psychology thing.“Hahaha, you know that is not true, and I did not cheat. Well, just so you know, the rules you gave did not address cheating. The rules themselves were clear that you were cheating, so why bring up cheating as a

Grover was pleasantly surprised at this and was very happy. “I thought you would want to do more for the fact that you are a cunning spirit, or your pride would not let you be straightforward,” Grover muttered to himself, even though Raven could hear him. There was no need for him to do anything. Even his first artifact spirit seemed to have accepted the Raven's Spirit.“That went quite smoothly; Vladimir's bond was not like this. He had to fight both spirits to get a settlement, but here I am with a very smooth bonding,” Grover muttered to himself as he saw a bright light rushing towards him, and the next moment he found himself back at the Crypt with everyone's eyes on him.“That was quick!” Vladimir exclaimed, getting up to his feet.“How did you do it, man?” Krystal asked, as he was also stunned at how fast he bonded with the beast artifact."Well, I spent close to two hours in there, though,” Grover said.“That might be true; the timing of the spirit realms is very different fro

Dust and blood swirled around Grover's boots as they emerged from the Crypt's gaping maw. Sunlight, harsh against his cave-accustomed eyes, revealed Shambala perched on a nearby rock, a mischievous glint in his golden eyes.“Let us find a place to clean up this blood and dust from ourselves,” Shambala said to the team as they began to search for a watering hole to do so.“There is one watering hole we could use,” Krystal pointed out as they made their way to it.“Justin and Riley just crossed my mind; I was wondering if they would be done with the training manual Sensei gave them,” Vladimir said.“Hahaha, they cannot exhaust the training in the manual. I used magical ink to write down the instructions, and every week it renews to a new set and routine to be carried out. They may or may not be missing out on anything right now. Nice right?” Shambala asked after explaining."Yes, Sensei, it is quite thrilling. I was not expecting that to be the case, though. You really thought it throug

Shambala laughed as he saw the look on his face.“I do not know what to do, Sensei. I am confused,” Grover said.“I can see that young lad. You just have to summon the Raven spirit to assist with the outsmarting aspect, and you are good to go. Since you are already its master and it resides in you, all you have to do now is call on it, and it will answer,” Shambala explained.“Is that all, Sensei? And I will be able to have the outsmarting ability.” Grover asked."Yes, lad,” Shambala retorted. Grover stared at the ground for quite some time, a mixture of confusion and frustration swirling within him. Shambala had just revealed its unique property: bonding with the user and allowing them to summon the Raven spirit. But for Grover, the spirit remained stubbornly silent."Don't fret, young Grover," Shambala chuckled, his voice a dry rasp. "The bond takes time to settle. Patience is key."Patience, however, was a scarce commodity for Grover at that moment. The weight of the unknown and t

“What do I do Sensei?” Grover asked Shambala with a confused face which was something Shambala was expecting. With a soft laugh and placing his hands on Grover's shoulder pulling him close, “You see young lad, carrying out this task should not be a hard one, but if it seems hard, all you will need to do is persist. All you will be doing is summon the Raven sprirt by calling on it.”“How do I do that Sensei?” Grover being so inquisitive at this point expressed his confusion even further as he thought summoning could only be done with an artifact in hand.“You see this artifact isn't one you can hold or touch in hand,” Shambala said taking a pause to see if he was following the explanation he was about to give.“Yes sensei, that is why I am confused,” Grover retorted.“Understandable. The artifact is not like the normal kind of artifact you will see all day, once it bonded with the user, it will go into the user's body and the user can summon the spirit of the Raven by connecting with hi

  • The Guild Of Shadows    The Unplanned Face-Off

Three days had passed since Grover had the artifact, yet the promised power of the Raven spirit remained stubbornly inert. Disappointment clouded his mood as he watched Krystal practice his shadow magic patterns and Vladimir train with his thunder and beast summoning skills. He, however, remained bound to the frustration of unanswered pleas.Luckily their journey had been smooth and there was no one who attacked them, as a result, the group was at rest. The past three days had been quite interesting for the team Shambala involved them in practices and Grover was told to focus to his inner spirit so he could connect with the Raven spirit.Shambala taught Vladimir and Krystal how they could combine their powers and fight as a team especially with the change in the fact that Vladimir had two in his possession now and was powerful than Krystal unlike before.“Krystal you will have to evade attacks that are too much and Vladimir you would intercept in any case were your team members are fou

Grover sat meditating in the house of shadows. One of the most unlikeliest places that he thought he would be at this time. Not quite surprisingly, it had been a year since their adventures with the members of the guild and the Ore organization. He smiled gently because, at least, that was something to smile about now—because those were terrible days. Days in which they lived for months on the brink of the end of all humanity, only one step away from one wrong move. Beside him, Shambala was levitating. It seemed as though both of them were communicating through telepathic means without even saying any words. Not too far away from them, Vladimir and Krystal had just finished dueling that morning, and while Vladimir had stopped to clean the perspiration from his face, Krystal, who had won the match, was feeling a bit more excited and was walking away with a smile on his face.On Krystal’s side, it seems like after everything, their lives went back to normal. But, of course, he knows th

Krystal, in getting out of his stance, quickly lunged at the man, whom he quickly identified as a member of the organization. He remembered the horrible things this particular individual had done to him in the past few hours and was not only going to pay back, but was also going to take the opportunity to punish him for his offenses against mankind. The man quickly realized that he was in a dire situation with three of them facing him, but being a typical member of the organization, it did not even occur to him that there was any other way out of this. He was possessed by the kind of pride that could not ask for mercy. He braced himself for battle and began to fight ceaselessly, even as they attacked him mercilessly on every side.Several times in the short period, they would look at each other’s faces and, without saying a word, deploy the strategy on how to teach this fellow lesson. All he knew was that he bore the brunt of this skill technique, but he did not know how they arrived,

  • In The Enemy's Lair III

As Grover and Vladimir fought with the guard, Krystal simply looked on without saying anything. Grover realized that, at that point, he was unstable and also very vulnerable. It could easily be tilted in any direction if he stayed in that trance, so even as he fought, he thought of the scheme to get them out of this situation.“Krystal! Krystal, we’re here.” He yelled, but there was no response.Seeing this, they immediately continued to fight with the man once again while they kept trying to use physics on Krystal so he would awaken.Krystal remained where he was standing and didn’t quite pay attention to them, but the man they were fighting with did not like the idea that they were trying to wake Krystal up. The man was annoyed with the way things were going. It was his fault, but there was nothing he was going to be able to do about it. He had caused it. In that moment, he thought of a number of things. The first of which was the reason why he did not call for backup as soon as he

  • In The Enemy's Lair II

Grover lay on his side, thinking about how he had probably broken a few ribs and how tired he felt. This fight had gone on seemingly forever. He knew they could not give up. But he had to admit that he was getting tired. He looked to Vladimir, who was unmoving with his face in the dust, and did not like the silence, which was only interrupted by the heavy breathing of the guard. If there was any consolation in this situation, it was the fact that the heavy breathing was an indication that the guard himself found them a worthy challenge and was also tired.Just as they finished fighting, as they lay in the dust, they heard a mighty sound as the wall behind them cracked. Grover mustered all his energy in time to see what had made that sound, and he noticed Vladimir also tried to do that, regardless of how tired he was. Not knowing what was beyond the wall, he did not like it that the man behind it had been fighting. He was excited about whoever was coming behind it and looked at it with

  • In The Enemy's Lair

Grover and Vladimir had been fighting the security person they had seen by the gate to the cave, and it looked like he was getting the better of them. In fact, he had begun gloating, teasing, and making fun of them about how weak they were despite being two and coming against him as a single person.Just as he thought that he had defeated the two, a loud yell came from deep inside the structure. When Grover heard it, it took a minute to sink in, and he then became excited because he would know this voice. Anyway, this was Krystal’s voice. Krystal was yelling that he was not going to agree to be used.“ Arggg!!! Leave me alone! I will win! I have already won! I will always win.“ He kept shouting these over and over again, warding off whatever entity it was that he was fighting, saying that he wouldn’t give up and he'd keep fighting. The more they listened to the exchange, the more they realized that he wasn’t fighting with someone outside of himself but with something on his inside. It

  • Battle At The Gates Of Doom II

Grover and Vladimir have been deployed by Shambala to go find Krystal and his father, rescue them, and bring them to safety while he and the rest of the guild had a face-off with the members of the organization at the gate. Aside from the unfortunate fellow who had seen them attempting to escape and had paid for it dealing with his life, no other person had seen or been accosted so far because of the chaos they had left at the gate. Grover did not think that they would intentionally make such a stupid decision as to drain the entire facility of its fighting force to only one location to fight an enemy. He thought that the decision to concentrate their entire fighting force in one location was born out of the mindset that they had never been attacked here and, with the exception of the members of the guild, might never have even been discovered at this location. Grover also thought of how it was such a good feeling. Nobody was lunging at him to take his life or were trying to fight wit

  • Battle At The Gates Of Doom

As soon as Grover noticed that the portal and the gates had started shutting them in, he quickly shouted, “Fight for the freedom of the five continents, oh ye men! This is a fight for the earth!”This charge, as innocuous as it sounded, was just the right encouragement that his comrades needed as they warded off their enemies with physical strength and artifact strength. They fought as though recharged by an invisible force. While he was fighting, Shambala found a way to distance his mind from the fight and then his thoughts. And as he did so, he realized something. That one, when the bell was rung earlier, had a code to it. One strike alone would have been a major indication that the barrier had been reached. Two strikes would have been a call for reinforcement, being that the intruders would be too strong. Three strikes were a summons for every possible fighting person in the structure to come out and join the reinforcement. And if that was the situation, it means that every single

Open, open, mother of horror, and let the children come in. Kin or foe, you shall decide. For to kin your cleave and on foe you will feast. These words reverberated in Grover’s mind as he heard the crack of the opening of the Gates of Doom, and indeed, as they opened, he understood why they were known as the gates of hell. The others have been clearly amazed that the poem he heard in the atmosphere turned out to be the key, and as Shambala said the words, the gate opened. However, before they could jubilate, some figures flew out of the building, looking at them angrily; they did not look like they were pleased to see them.Obviously, since no one knew the location of the gates of doom, it was understandable that they had not had guests in a long time. Not like a place called the Gates of Doom would have many visitors at any rate. In Vladimir’s mind, as he looked at these figures, he quickly realized that this was where the battle was to begin. He only hoped that their fate did not e

  • The Gates Of Doom II

Following the suggestion by one of them, they fired at the barrier until a building started to reveal itself in bits as they hit it. And as they persisted, the whole building was shown to be a gate. At some point, no matter how hard they hit, the building wouldn’t budge but continued to reflect their energy against them. It’s only made him get tired faster.Shambala had come to the front of the company and was able, after some time, to interpret the inscription on the door. He voiced out the words in the old tongue and then translated them into their language as “the gates of doom." As if the literal meaning of the words was not terrifying enough, the horror on his face as he said those words made a chill run down the spines of his men. Some of them, who had invariably been to close the door, moved further away from it.Of course, they knew that they had no choice but to go in knowing that Krystal was in there, and they would not leave without him. Seeing these things only made them he
