Meanwhile, Emma is currently in a dilemma. Even though she had divorced from Victor, she isn’t even Lucas' legal wife yet. And somehow, Lucas seems so reluctant to bring her to live with him at his house along with his family.
And he has no intention to find a place for Emma to stay for the time being. Instead, Lucas prefers to seek help, hiring a locksmith to open the door for Emma, so she can get back into the house where she lived with Victor.
“You sure this is your house?” the locksmith asks.
“Why don’t you just ask that old lady neighbor?” says Emma.
The locksmith glances a bit to the house next door, and indeed there is an old lady, Mrs. Greta, who is busy watering her little garden.
Seeing that the old lady doesn’t really concern about them, the locksmith is quite sure that the clients he is serving currently are not thieves. After all, he is just lazy to bother to make sure of it. And so, he just unlocks the house for them.
After being able to enter the house, Emma shows the locksmith the conditions in the living room. Especially on some portraits hanging on the wall.
The locksmith glances at Lucas a bit curiously. It's clear that Lucas looks so much different from the man in the photo with Emma.
After that, he also glances at Emma with the same suspicious gaze.
“What?” asks Emma.
“Don't tell me you're in a family dispute with your husband and are required to stay away from this place. If that's the case, I could be in trouble for helping you to get into this house,” says the locksmith.
Emma immediately takes down all the portraits that have Victor in it.
“We just got divorced this morning, and haven't finished taking care of the settlement issue. Coincidentally, the house key I was holding was left in my room. That damn loser locked the house since he was the last one who left the house this morning.”
But the locksmith is still finding it dubious. And so, Emma goes hurriedly towards the stairs to her room on the second floor.
“Hey!” calls the locksmith.
But not long after, Emma gets back to the locksmith and shows him the key to the house she had left behind.
After that, Emma starts fussing around, explaining everything about the key, about the hanger which is decorated with her initials name, and also about all the other completely unnecessary details to him.
In the end, the locksmith just leaves, feeling unable to stomach all the nagging that comes out of Emma's mouth.
The frustrated and irritated Emma slams the door as soon as the locksmith gets out of the house. She immediately sits on the couch while massaging her forehead.
She becomes increasingly impatient, thinking that she has to return to live with Victor in that house.
“Are you telling me to stay at this house again with that loser?” asks Emma.
“That’s why we need to clear this issue ASAP,” says Lucas, not even showing any slightest bit of care with Emma’s frustration.
Emma keeps talking to herself, occasionally grumbling and nagging as she takes off her stiletto shoes. Although Lucas did respond to Emma's words earlier, but now he is more busy paying attention to the condition of that house.
Lucas finds the house not too big, but not too small either. The condition is very well maintained, as well as all the furniture inside it. The interior is not that bad either.
And there, Lucas has just started calculating how much money they could earn by selling the house.
“With all the things here, you can sell this house for 250 to 300 thousand dollars.”
Only there, Emma realizes that Lucas has completely ignored her. Even though she herself is also eyeing the wealth and also the money from the sale of the house, now Emma doesn’t seem to want to discuss it with Lucas.
In fact, she begins to think about giving up her intention, knowing that Lucas is now also trying to get his hand on the money too. It makes her a little doubtful about her judgement on Lucas.
How can the man who she considers to be so rich, now be even interested in taking some of the wealth from her conflict with Victor. After all, she believes that the amount is certainly not much compared to the wealth that Lucas currently has.
She tries to ignore him by turning on the TV. Even though there is nothing that she wants to watch, Emma deliberately turns up the volume of the TV to distract her from all the bad thoughts in her head.
But now she is getting even more annoyed to see the most annoying TV advertisement that she has seen so often every day.
[Injured on the job?]
[Cheated in the employment contract agreement?]
[Abused by husband in the matter of divorce?]
[Jimmy Farion at your service, solving your problem with no problem!]
He is a lawyer who is famous for his eccentric wigs. Even the oddity of always wearing different wigs on many occasions, has made him so popular. What's more, he never hides his baldness, and admits openly that he does wear a wig.
Emma changes the TV channel because of her annoyance. But not long after, the same advertisement reappears. But now, the advertisement is starting to catch Lucas' attention too.
“That’s it. That’s the person we need,” says Lucas.
“What?” Emma startles.
Lucas notes down the number displayed on the advertisement. After that, he tries to make a call. But it seems like he doesn't get any answer.
He understands it too, that the person he is trying to call might be busy, given his reputation that is already like those of celebrities.
“Hey, I need to leave for now. I’ll contact you soon,” says Lucas as he gets out of the house.
Emma only turns slightly to see him leave. But she doesn’t have any will to say a single word to him at the moment. So, she just lets him leave.
Meanwhile, Lucas is still trying to get in touch with the lawyer he is planning to hire. He doesn’t even care to close the door again.
A moment later, Emma hears the sound of Lucas’s car leaving. Her face twitches again. She closes the door with a huge bang. She then picks up one of her shoes, intending to slam it so hard to the TV.
But she immediately cancels it, thinking about the money she could get by selling the properties. In that frustrated state, Emma glances at the gold ring studded with diamonds that Victor had intended to give her.
The ring is left on the table with the box open. The diamonds sparkle, starting to pique Emma's interest and curiosity. Indeed the ring looks so beautiful. Even Emma begins to realize the necklace Lucas bought for her looks so dull compared to the ring.
That’s when she begins to doubt whether the item is a fake jewel.
“Don’t tell me?!” she mumbles.
She picks and examines them, both the ring and the box. She might not be an expert to judge a jewelry item. But she starts to doubt that it is a fake ring. Only after she finds the name “Johnson’s Pleasantry” under the box, she is affirmed that the ring can’t be a fake item. Johnson’s Pleasantry is a renowned jewelry shop in the town where Victor visited before to buy that item. The shop is very popular amongst couples who want to get married. It is known for their validity and good reputation in selling jewelry that is specifically for weddings. “There’s no way Johnson’s Pleasantry would sell a fake ring to people who are going to get married,” she mutters with widened eyes. Emma puts her shoes back on, and rushes out of the house with the ring. She locks the door and pulls out her cell phone to call Lucas back. She thinks it would be better to go with Lucas than to book a taxi with her own money. Or maybe to help her to sell the ring with the best price she could get. But then
She indeed expected that a jewel from Johnson’s Pleasantry would be expensive. But she never expected it to be that expensive. “A Million?” she mumbles by holding her head with one hand, while the other hand is trying to keep her balance by finding something to hold. “So? Did it enough to surprise you, Mam? I’m also happy for you to have such a good husband like him,” says the owner. “No! This is too much. I expected it would be expensive. But 1 Million dollars is too much.” It attracts the attention of the few customers who happen to be there. But Emma doesn’t pay that much attention. She still can’t imagine how Victor managed to collect that much money to buy that ring. That’s when she remembers about Victor having two bank accounts. All this time, Victor only used one of his bank accounts. But Emma never paid much attention about the other one, since she believed it wouldn’t be much different. After all, what would she expect from a husband who had only been a pizza delivery m
It’s not that she can’t sell the ring at all. It’s just that the shop owner is just reluctant to rebuy the item back, since he is a bit dubious with Emma. He is afraid of the risk of buying a stolen jewel.“I’m truly sorry, Mam. I’m afraid you still need to discuss this thing with your husband again. He is the only one who can sell this item to us. At the end of the day, I believe your husband will insist for you to accept the gift,” says the shop owner.Emma is getting impatient, and carelessly forces herself to get the shop owner to buy the item again.“Can't you just recreate that appraisal document? I'm willing to drop the price even more to compensate whatever process you were telling me just now,” she insists. The shop owner squints his eyes with a suspicious gaze. Now he is really starting to doubt Emma's testimonials for being Victor's wife.“Mam, I'm afraid that I have to call for the police now,” he says.Emma is petrified to hear him mentioning the police. But she still insi
Emma pushes the button to answer the call and takes the phone to her ear. But the shop owner immediately snatches the phone. [Emma! Did you enter my house recently?] The shop owner becomes curious with that kind of question. He holds the phone with his palm, and takes it away from his face. “Is this really your husband?” the shop owner asks Emma. “He is my husband!” Emma answers so slowly, not wanting her words to be heard by Victor through the phone. The shop owner squints his eyes with an even more suspicious gaze. He puts back the phone to his ear and starts talking to Victor directly. “Is this really Mr. Victor William?” he asks. [Yes, I’m Victor William. Who is this? Where’s Emma?] “Mr. William. This is Johnson Bermer, the owner of Johnson’s Pleasantry. I’m the one who served you here yesterday.” The shop owner finds that Victor is silent for a while. Of course, he is a bit curious what Emma’s doing at Johnson’s Pleasantry. That’s when he remembers about the ring that he
Emma is now starting to worry where to go. It is no longer possible for her to show her face to return to Victor’s house. The only thing she could think of is Lucas. But it is clear that Lucas has been starting to ignore her before. She realizes that Lucas is more greedy than she is. Until then, she remembers something. It's about Victor's bank account which she has been neglecting. She thinks, if Victor could buy such expensive jewelry just as a gift, it's likely that Victor has much more money stored in that bank account. “That jerk! How did he get that much money? How dare he keep it a secret from me this whole time. There’s no way I’m going to just let it slide.” In the end, she calls Lucas. She really has no other choice but to compromise with him. She is not going to lose if Lucas asks for a share, as long as she can get something from Victor. [What is it, Honey? How does it feel to be there with that loser again?] “Enough with this. Just pick me up near Johnson’s Pleasantr
During the night, Victor is finding it hard to sleep. This is the first night he has to spend by being alone in the house since he had lived with Emma. The house is so calm and quiet, but not his heart. He is still feeling sad for losing the woman he once loved. Of course, not the ex-wife as what he just knows about recently. But the one who had accompanied him for five years. But somehow, he feels satisfied with what had happened at Johnson’s Pleasantry before. He never planned it to avenge her that way. He didn’t even think about revenge at all. However… “Serve her right! How could she be so blind not realizing the ring I gave her is genuine.” Now he is laying down there, on the bed, looking at that sparkling golden ring studded with diamonds. Even though he isn’t the type of guy who is obsessed with jewelry, the ring still looks so appealing to him. It is as if every tiny space he sees on those tiny diamonds have begun to trap him inside. That’s when he starts feeling empty i
He rushes to the window and examines the outside for more. His car is still there, and everything looks so normal outside. “Could it be that the two robbers changed their minds and left everything here? There’s no way!” He really can’t grasp what is happening and how the money and the ring are left there in the front of the door. He checks everything around the house, making sure there is no place for thieves to enter. He also checks every corner in the house, to make sure no one is hiding inside. Only after that, he goes back to his room, locks himself inside, and then sits behind the door with a frightened look on his face. In the end, he finds it hard to get to sleep again. And currently, the condition with Emma is hardly different. She still has nowhere to go, and Lucas hasn’t offered anything to her. Instead, Lucas’s attention is on the TV at one corner of the bar, watching an interview of some new Hollywood star. His interest is not as vague as a man finding a beautiful gir
He throws her to the bed, and immediately takes off his clothes. However, just as he gets naked, his phone rings. He picks the phone with an annoying face. But he can’t deny the call since it is his father's call. [Where are you?] “I have some business with a friend. I won’t be home tonight.” [No! Get home now. Your mom can’t sleep unless you get home!] “Come on, Dad! I’m not a kid anymore.” [Hey, Lucas! You are still living with us now. Tell that to me later after you get married, or at least, after you can raise money by yourself] “Cih!” There’s no way he introduces Emma to his father when she is looking like this. And there’s no way for him to restrain what he was just going to release just now either. He has been all naked, and that little brother of his is asking to be put into that warm cave. “Can't I wrap the thing I just started here?!” he asks. [Just get here in 30 minutes] As the call ends, he slams the phone into the bed, looking so annoyed and infuriated. He will
