Marital settlement is about splitting wealth which a marriage couple have together. Often it gets complicated because most people just mix their money with what they already had before marriage.

But the thing with Victor is different. The money is not a wealth belonging to the two of them from their marriage. It’s owned solely by Victor, and it’s completely isolated from what he earned during his life as Emma’s husband.

“Not all the wealth belonging to a husband should be disputed by his wife for marital settlement. Or else, people would start marrying a rich figure, and then divorce him for getting half of their wealth. Or perhaps, is that how you see marital settlement?” asks Malcom rhetorically.

“But, not getting anything? Think about my client’s position as a woman. She has the right to get something from her ex-husband,” says Elijah.
