197 - Is It That Important? (A Bonus Chapter)

So far, there have been four companies who cancel their next demands for goods supplies to Counterbrand. But sadly, those four are quite a huge loss.

The rest only use that situation to gain some advantages from Counterbrand, thinking that they have an upper hand in negotiating the term. They haven’t canceled their demands yet. But Viona and Mrs. Emilia can only put them on  hold for the time being.

Viona leaves her office to find Victor. Sadly, when she enters Victor’s office, she only finds Judy there.

“Oh, Judy! You are here. Where is Victor?”

“Victor, he is not here yet. He said he is going to be late. Is there something that I can help with?” asks Judy awkwardly.

“Really, this is not something I can ask you for help,” replies Viona curtly.

It only makes Judy even more insecure with her status and situation. All she can do is just smile awkwardly.

And weirdly, Viona is still standing there, as if she is waiting for Judy to do something.

“Come on! Aren’t you going to call him?” asks Viona impatiently.

“Oh, right! I should have called him. Yes, yes!”

Judy tries to call Victor, and Victor isn’t picking the phone.

“Um, it seems like he is still sleeping.”

Viona's brow twitched. She immediately takes out her phone and tries to call Victor herself.

After several attempts, only then does the phone get an answer. And the one who answers her is not Victor, but Chappy, who answers that call by activating the loudspeaker.

[He, hello?!]

Of course, Chappy’s voice is something that is so unfamiliar to Viona.

“Who is this? Where’s Victor?”

[Victor is still asleep. He just got back from the clinic this morning]

“Clinic? Whatever. Just wake him up!”

[Oh, okay! Bro! Wake up! It’s a phone call for you here. Wake up, bro!]

[Shiit! What time is it? You’ve answered the phone? Damn! Why don’t you just serve him talk yourself]

[It’s not a him, Bro. It’s a her, and I think she is mad]

“Hey, just give the fucking phone to him!”

[Oh, okay. Here!]

[Hm? Who is this?]

“God damn it! Where are you? We have an issue here. Get your ass here, now!”

Viona doesn’t give any more explanation, and just hangs up the phone. She then turns away intending to take her leave.

But suddenly, there’s an incoming call on the phone at Victor’s working desk. Viona immediately stops and turns back, thinking that it may be another client who wants to cancel their demands.

She tells Judy to pick up the phone. And it turns out to be from the lady receptionist at the lobby.

“She says, there’s a call from Chocolaik Inc.,”says Judy to Viona.

Viona is silent for a moment. She is not too familiar with that company, and believes that Counterbrand never has any business with them.

She approaches that desk, intending to receive that call herself. But then, she cancels her intention, and asks Judy to serve them instead. It’s like she is trying to see how Judy handles them.

“Why don’t you just answer that call on behalf of Victor. Just ask that receptionist to connect it to you,” she says.

“Oh, okay!”

And so, she asks Jane to connect the phone to her. Meanwhile, Viona is still standing there by crossing her arms in front of Judy.

And just like what Viona expected, Judy doesn’t serve the one on the phone like any professional assistant. She is still with her insecurity, talking casually albeit with a sense of awkward expression on her face.

Viona shakes her head gently with a disbelieving face. Until then, Judy gradually changes the way she behaves on the phone.

“Yes, this is still my first day at work, Mr. Moreau. I just didn't expect you to immediately recognize me simply by my voice. All right, I’ll convey your message as soon as he is here.”

Not long after that, after a few nodings with an awkward smile, Judy hangs up the phone.

“So?” asks Viona.

“It’s Mr. Layeq Moreau. It’s that one man who greeted Victor for a moment before we met Andrew yesterday. He said that he wants to pay a visit to our company,” replies Judy.

Viona shows a kind of curiosity. She herself doesn’t remember anyone by that name during her time accompanying Victor at Andrew’s wedding party yesterday.

“Paying a visit?”

“That’s what he said. But I believe he wanted to make an appointment to have a meeting with Victor. Yesterday, he took the time to give his name card, saying that he has an interest in Counterbrand,” Judy explains.

Viona nods twice with a plain face, and then takes her leaves. She still keeps her judgement that Judy is not cut out to be a professional assistant for the president of Counterbrand. But at least, she doesn’t think that Judy would be completely useless.

“Well, it’s still better than letting that naive kid do everything by himself,” she mumbles.

She takes out her phone again, and brings it to her ear as she heads back to her office. He calls for Judeo, and Judeo also answers her in half asleep voice.

“What? Not you too? What about Victor?”

[Hold on!]

....

[He is taking a shower now. What is it? Is there something I can help you with]

“There’s a girl who just became a personal assistant for Victor.”

[Oh, you mean Judy?]

“You know her? That’s good then. I just want to inform you that she is going to work here. I want you to collect her info just like the others.”

[About that, I’ve collected some data about her beforehand. But there’s not much to mention at the moment. I’ll just send it to you now]

“Okay! Thank you, Judeo.”

Just as she gets back into her office, her facsimile has begun printing the document that Judeo has sent to her.

She takes a look briefly, and finds out that Judy didn't even finish high school at all.

“A drop out?” she mumbles with a disbelieving face.

Until then, she gains interest in Judy’s surname, Fonseca. She then checks on the other paper, to learn about Judy’s parents.

“Marina and Pablo Fonseca?”

She starts pondering, feeling a bit familiar with those two names. She finds it hard to recall her memory, whether she had ever heard those two names before.

She takes out her phone again, and calls Judeo.

“Can you send me more info about her parents. If possible, send me their pictures too?”

[Sorry. I don’t have any of them. I’ll need more time to dig more about their backgrounds. Why? Is it that important? Come on, it’s just Judy. We’ve been watching over her for these five years]

Suddenly, a phone on her desk rings. Knowing that she is going to get another complaint from Counterbrand’s business partner, she decides to end that call.

“It’s okay, just forget it!”
