There was a silence that was both suffocating and illuminating as the final board member left the room, the echo of doors closing. The boardroom's once vibrant energy had vanished, leaving him to bear the burdensome burden of accountability alone.

For an instant, he remained still and gazed at the leather chairs that his colleagues had just taken a seat in. The tension in the room was still evident. Every chair stood for a possible opponent, a person who could either help or hurt him, based on the evidence, or lack thereof, that he would have by Friday.
