"I didn't do it! It's so clear that you are trying to frame me, this is not your first time, not your second time." Leonid snarled.
Ethan smiled at him, "Getting angry already, even when the proof has not been provided yet."
Leonid glared at him, just as Ethan had hoped. Leonid decided to take matters into his own hands.
"Here is it, search me and you won't find anything on me." Leonid suggested.
Everyone around them agreed to his suggestion, Ethan could not stop smiling, this was what he wanted, Leonid was going to get fired for sure.
"Alexander, search Leonid thoroughly for the wristwatch." Leonid's boss Mr. Evan said.
Alexander was a co-worker of Leonid, the guy who had replaced Leonid at the job he was doing before he went to attend to Ethan. Alexander never spoke to Leonid because he always found ways to bully Leonid.
"Yes sir."
Alexander was smiling as he walked up to Leonid, why of all the people to search him did his boss choose Alex. Leonid could not refuse because of course he was innocent and not guilty. Alexander stood in front of Leonid and began searching through his pocket. He searched his trousers first, dipping his hand into Leonid's pocket and searching though.
Leonid could not wait for Ethan to be proven wrong in front of everyone. Alex moved to his shirt and ran his hand around it. He dipped his hand into Leonid's breast pocket and smirked. He leaned in towards Leonid's ear and whispered in a low voice.
"This is your last day here, actually I have been jealous of the way my boss treats you. I don't care if you stole the wristwatch or not. You're finally leaving."
Leonid's eyes widened hearing that, before he could say anything. Alexander took out a golden wristwatch that cost $63000 from his pocket. Alexander raised his hand and waved the gold watch around like he was being paid to do so. Leonid was surprised to see the wristwatch had been placed in his pocket. Even though he would try to protest, no one would believe him, after all the watch was found in his pocket.
Leonid knew this was the last day of his work in the car wash. Ethan had succeeded in making him lose his job, he had gotten what he wanted. Leonid did not feel sad at all for losing his job after all it was worth it. He had finally known Alex was jealous of him and the relationship with his boss. It was not like his boss favored him either, he wondered what made Alex jealous of him.
Alex was clearly doing more better than he was but checking it in a different way. Leonid was the one married to a rich wife while Alex always hung out with different kinds of girls. Leonid glanced at Ethan, Mr. Evan and then the crowd that had surrounded them. Each of them in the crowd were looking at him with disgust and a scowl on their faces.
Ethan had gone too far making him look like a thief in front of everyone. Leonid felt so embarrassed and the worst part of it was that he couldn't do anything about it. Even if he tried, he wouldn't win because it was clear that there were two people up against him.
"See?" Ethan yelled. "I told you all he was a thief."
"He had the wristwatch on him all the while and claimed he was not a thief, just like the day he stole the money I had saved for my mother's hospital treatment. I had to go borrow a loan from the bank which I struggled to pay. The Vanderbilts had the habit of stealing money and owing a huge sum of money. Maybe his father thought he could steal the money but couldn't so he took it as a loan and ran away." Alexander supported, adding more lies to it.
"I did not steal anything from you." Leonid protested. "Why would I do it?"
"You need money, you want money to pay for the debt you owe." Alexander said.
Ethan watched and smiled, he seemed not to be the only one who wanted Leonid fired. Alex was making things go way more easy for him and he was loving every bit of it. Who would have thought he would meet Leonid here and get to play with him just a little bit. Yes, a little bit. This was just a trial for Leonid trying to differentiate them, were they even alike in anything?
"Alex, stop this, nothing has gone missing since I started working here." Leonid said.
"Nothing has gone missing?" Alex thundered, "My money got missing, the bosses wristwatch also got missing. We found it in your backpack but the boss decided to let it go, Chad's lost his wife's family heirloom and we also found it in your backpack."
Wow! Ethan grinned, things were getting worse than he planned. Who would have thought Leonid was actually a real thief?
Leonid was done hearing all the thrash they were saying about him. He had to defend himself no matter what, if it goes on this way, the police might get involved and arrest him for robbery. A crime he never committed.
"I didn't do any of those things, I am innocent. They are both framing me, I never stole Ethan's watch. How could I take off his watch while he was wearing it, why would I do that?" Leonid said. "They both hate me and are trying to get me fired."
The place fell silent as if a golden crow had just passed by and the next minute. The crowd began murmuring.
"He looks so decent, who would have thought he was a thief?"
"I guess you do not judge a book by its cover."
"Is it really true it was his father who took the debt and ran away. I feel sorry for him."
"Isn't he the one featured on the article for being a debtor?"
"He needed that watch to pay off some of his debt."
"No one wants to be his friend."
"I heard he is married to the Ceo of Melianid."
"Framing you? You are a thief." Alex said.
"So, are you getting him fired or not?" Ethan asked, turning to Mr. Evan.
Mr. Evan was still in shock about the revelation of the gold watch being found in Leonid's pocket. He had seen Ethan wear the watch but how Leonid had taken the way away from his wrist without Ethan knowing was amazing.
"I…hmph! I am curious about how he got the watch away from your wrist without you knowing." Mr. Evan said.
"Actually, he is a really skilled thief and maybe that's what his dear wife found really good in him." Ethan mocked, chuckling.
"Boss, you have to fire him, he has nothing to do here anymore." Alex said, pointing a finger at Leonid.
It was then Leonid knew trying to prove his innocence wasn't worth it. No one would believe him at all because he had boasted about not being a thief and the golden wristwatch was planted in his pocket. He stared at Alex and Ethan, they had the same look on their face. He wondered if they had planned all of these all along.
Mr. Evan nodded. "Sure, we all made an agreement, didn't we?"
Leonid fist tightened, he wished his life could turn around so he could deal with these two but he knew it was not possible. With the burden of the debt hanging on his neck and the responsibility of his idle mother. Leonid found it hard to waste money on anything.
"Yes, we made an agreement."
"We want him fired."
The crowd began shouting for the boss to do as he promised. Mr. Evan took a deep breath and proclaimed it in public.
"Leo, you are fired, you will no longer work here."
Leonid showed no emotion, he gave Alex and Ethan one more glance before turning around and heading out of the car wash. He had never felt so humiliated in his whole life, accused of stealing something he could not even afford. Hateful words followed behind him as he left.
Hah!
He laughed, what was so special about Mr. Evan that Alex was jealous about.
"I was jealous of you because of the way your boss treats you." Leonid muttered. "Ha ha, treating me like a thrash because I am poor."
Leonid hated the way the rich ridiculed the poor. If you were broke, they would make life miserable for you. He knew his life was already miserable without anyone making it miserable. He had not been happy even as a child, the only thing he heard everyday was the word that haunted him till now.
"PAY YOUR DEBT! PAY YOUR DEBT!" They would always say as they bumped the front door at night.
Leonid had never gotten so much sleep as a kid because of the noise at the front door. First he had been a happy kid with both father and a mother but everything took a huge turn. His father left and left a huge debt for them to pay. Leonid didn't want his father back, he never had a father. Every man could be a father but only few were worthy to be called father.
Leonid brushed the thought away from his head, afterall he still had the time to take up another job at a restaurant as a waiter. He thought about Amelia, it would be better if she never heard about the thing that happened at the car wash. He was not sure she would believe he was telling the truth. Who would, when the watch was found on him. He wanted to get a necklace for her as a gift, he had been saving up for it for a long time and he was hoping Amelia would love it. This was the second expensive gift he was giving her, she was going to love it. He smiled just by thinking about that, soon he was whistling and jogging down the street on the roadside. Leonid pushed the door and walked in, he had asked for the job a few days ago but hadn't had the time to start. He glanced around and walked towards the staff. The restaurant was filled with classy people, you could tell by how expensive they were dressed. He got into the kitchen, staring around the place. A chubby chef was standing
"Darling, I am home." He yelled, pushing the front door open. He heard nothing. He began climbing up the stairs, calling out to Amelia. He reached the door to their room, staring at it. "Darling?" "Took you long enough!" Amelia yelled, slightly opening the door. "I had a late shift." She grabbed his hand and pulled him into the room, she slammed the door and pushed him against it. Leonid glanced at her face only to see her glaring at him, she was all dressed up and was in the process of applying makeup on her face. "Are you going somewhere?" Leonid asked her. She ignored him and buried her head in his chest, hugging him tight. "Why were you late?" "I had a late shift." He repeated. "Really? The slap she gave you was not good enough to make you come home earlier?" "What slap?" Leonid asked. Amelia pulled away from the hug and frowned at him. "The woman who slapped you for a coat that costs less than $500." "Less than $500?" Leonid couldn't believe his ears, he had been
"Let me help you with your tie; you look great now. Your hair doesn’t look like it was chewed by mice anymore, and your beards look different too." Amelia stated. "Don’t say anything; it’s okay; you don’t have to thank me." Leonid gazed at his reflection in the mirror, admiring his appearance. He couldn't recall the last time he looked so great. She had assisted him with washing his hair, despite the fact that it was with her feminine products. His hair, which cascaded down his shoulders, was gleaming and sparkling. The fragrance was enticing, and Leonid resisted the temptation to grab a strand of his hair and smell it. "I am still going to say thank you for grooming me; it was a good thought and also a good thing to do, but now the ladies will keep on flirting with me," Leonid said, winking at his wife from the mirror. He wanted to tease her, and he sure did because she frowned at him and said, "There are women flirting with you?" She questioned. "You should know since you were al
"We can celebrate now without any distractions. I will order more drinks. Amelia said."Go ahead, sweetie." Mrs. Harrington saidAmelia touched her neck and took out the necklace Leonid had bought earlier."Leonid bought me a necklace; it is actually really pretty. I love it."At the mention of the necklace, Mr. Harrington scoffed in disgust."A $20 to $50 necklace. Amelia, you are worth more than that." Mr. Harrington complained.Amelia glanced at Leonid before inspecting the necklace again. "It's not worth $50; it costs more than you think it does."Mr. Harrington snickered. "As long as it comes from Leonid, it is going to be awful and cheap."Amelia stopped touching the necklace. The necklace stayed on her chest, and she refused to argue with her parents about the necklace. Apart from the fact that it was not worth the argument, they were going to keep on saying her husband was cheap.Leonid felt like a ghost as they all began talking, totally ignoring him in the picture. Amelia ha
"Take it." Mrs. Harrington urged "The money would go a long way for you. Your debt would be reduced." "$1 million is a huge amount of money, and he is giving it to you for free." Amelia glanced at Leonid; their eyes locked. She waved her head pleading with her eyes that he shouldn't take it. Without waiting for a reply, Ethan pulled out a check from his pocket and took out a pen. He placed the check on the table and wrote down the amount he intended to give to Leonid. For $1.1 million, I still added a little for you trying to take care of Amelia." He pushed the check across the table until it was in front of Leonid. Mrs. Harrington's face lit up into a smile. "Leonid is too poor to refuse that amount of money, Amelia. Get ready to say goodbye to your husband." "No!" Amelia yelled. "Leonid can never do that to me; he is far too loyal to choose money over me." Leonid glanced at the check. He read the amount that was written on the check. Amelia kept on watching him, with a look of
Ethan snickered at the thought of Leonid having company. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington couldn't stop themselves from laughing. Leonid, on the other hand, looked humiliated; the other diners were still throwing stares at them.Amelia, stop whatever you are doing now; it's only going to make me look worse than now." Leonid whispered to her.Amelia shook her head. "No way am I letting them bully you now."Leonid bit his tongue to stop himself from speaking out loud. "This is only making matters worse; I can't have company. Not with the debts on my neck, Amelia understands.""But you are always bullied.""I am used to it." He whispered. "It doesn't matter.""Enough of the little talks; I do know it is impossible for Leonid to have a company. Not even in his dream." Ethan said.Mrs. Harrington supported him. "He probably might be thinking of starting a company, but it is not possible to start one."Mother, that is enough; we are leaving." Amelia said this and stood to her feet.Mrs. Harrington f
Leonid felt like the biggest jerk; he shouldn’t have left Amelia alone at the restaurant with her parents. Anger and upset had clouded his judgment. He couldn't believe he had thrown away everything his mother had taught him. The words she had imparted offered some solace.‘Act like you don't hear it.’Reacting to Mrs. Harrington's comments made no difference. They would continue to perceive him in the same way. His wife wasn't home yet, and he suspected she might have become intoxicated; anything could happen in that state. He paced restlessly, picked up his phone, and dialed her number. The phone rang multiple times before transferring to voicemail."Hello, this is Amelia Harrington Vanderbilt. Please leave a message."Leonid tossed his phone onto the bed but instantly retrieved it, remembering the potential consequences of its damage. He couldn't afford to replace it. He heaved a sigh of relief as the phone landed safely. He took it in his hand and dialed her number again."Hi, it'
Leonid glanced at the scorpion with a hard look on his face. No matter what they did to him, he was never going to divorce Amelia. She was the second woman who had taken care of him in the whole world when nobody loved him. He could not betray her by letting her go for no reason. Even though he was staring death in the face, he was never going to do it.Leonid was still quiet because if he dared say a word, the knife was going to go right into his skin. Scorpion retrieved the knife and wiped the part that had touched Leonid."You are scared of talking because of the knife.""No," Leonid said."Are you going to sign the papers now in peace, or will my men play with you before you agree?""I am not signing the papers," Leonid stated firmly.Scorpion studied him for a moment before putting the knife under Leonid's jaw and raising his face with it."Still brave in the face of death?"There was no response from Leonid. Scorpion couldn't read the reaction on Leonid's face either."I ask you
