"Darling, I am home." He yelled, pushing the front door open.
He heard nothing.
He began climbing up the stairs, calling out to Amelia. He reached the door to their room, staring at it.
"Darling?"
"Took you long enough!" Amelia yelled, slightly opening the door.
"I had a late shift."
She grabbed his hand and pulled him into the room, she slammed the door and pushed him against it. Leonid glanced at her face only to see her glaring at him, she was all dressed up and was in the process of applying makeup on her face.
"Are you going somewhere?" Leonid asked her.
She ignored him and buried her head in his chest, hugging him tight. "Why were you late?"
"I had a late shift." He repeated.
"Really? The slap she gave you was not good enough to make you come home earlier?"
"What slap?" Leonid asked.
Amelia pulled away from the hug and frowned at him. "The woman who slapped you for a coat that costs less than $500."
"Less than $500?"
Leonid couldn't believe his ears, he had been humiliated for only $500 dollars. He felt so terrible.
"Yes, she might actually get it from a thrift store." Amelia responded. She walked towards the dressing mirror. "If you won't have enough time, you should give me something that would keep me company." She took a peek at Leonid. "I am not talking about dolls."
"Something or someone?"
Amelia was silent for a little bit before nodding. "Yes, someone."
Leonid began walking towards her, one of his hands was in his pocket. Amelia picked up a lip gloss and posed in front of the mirror about to apply them but she turned around to stare at Leonid.
"Come on Leonid, what are you scared of?"
"I am not scared of anything."
"Then why don't you want to have kids?"
Leonid looked away from her, Amelia had always wanted to have kids. Many of them but Leonid doesn't want any of that. What was he scared of? He probably doesn't know the reason why he did not want a kid. Maybe because his Dad abandoned him when he was little. He didn't want the same for his child.
"I never said I don't want kids." He defended.
"You did."
"When?"
"By showing it! Goddamn it Leonid, I want one, even though it's only one."
"Elia, can you save this for another day?"
Amelia frowned at him, "That's what you said yesterday and the day before."
Leonid took in a deep breath, walking towards her. He wrapped his hand around her from behind, she feigned being upset and tried to break away from his grip. Leonid smiled at her through the mirror and hugged her tighter.
"Calm down darling, we will have one soon."
"How soon?" She questioned, holding his hand.
"When I clear away my debts, we will have one. A boy."
"A girl, we can't have two stubborn boys at home."
"Who said you are not stubborn too?" Leonid inquired. "The girl will be like you."
Amelia's lips slowly curled into a smile, "Promise?"
"Promise."
He held her like that for a while before releasing her, taking out the necklace from his pocket. He hid it behind him, Amelia spotted his hand behind him and turned her head to look at what he was hiding. He turned back her head, making her groan.
"What are you hiding?"
"Close your eyes." Leonid said. "I have a present for you."
Without hesitating, Amelia closed her eyes, beaming in smiles. Leonid raised the necklace to her neck and clipped it. He glanced at her reflection in the mirror and at how the necklace fitted her.
"You can open your eyes now."
Amelia's eyes shot open, she touched the necklace on her neck. Her eyes beaming in admiration, she stared at the necklace for a long time making Leonid think she doesn't like it.
"2001 collection, a rare necklace. I don't know the worth." She muttered, raising her head to stare at Leonid. "How did you get it?"
"I saved up for it and bought it from a local jewelry store." Leonid answered, not ready to tell her the full details.
"Thank you!" She shrieked in excitement. "I have been looking for this necklace for a while."
"I'm glad you like it, you haven't told me where you are going that you're getting all decked out."
Amelia grinned. "Are you getting jealous already?"
"Jealous for what?"
"That I'm going out looking so pretty?" She began. "Don't worry I am not going out without you. We have been invited to dinner by my parents."
Her parents? Leonid tried to smile or keep his face straight. Those two despised him so much that they wished he could just disappear from their daughters life. Just as he came into her life. Amelia glanced at him, seeing how his face looked, she stopped smiling.
"Come on Leo, don't be scared. I'm there, they won't talk bad against you. They just wanted to know how we are doing, since I refused to let them spend a week here."
"Thank goodness you didn't accept."
Leonid still remembered the time her Mother had stayed over for 2 weeks. She transformed Leonid into a house help, always calling him and sending him around to do the house chores. His wife wasn't at home, she was working hard to make sure her small business grew. The Harrington's had a belief that you have to generate your own company when you come of age. They freezed Amelia's childhood account, in order for her to create wealth for herself.
It hadn't been so easy for her since she was not married to a rich man. She only has to use her childhood account whenever it's really important and her Mother must approve of it before that happens.
"Why would I accept? Mother is controlling and demanding. I have already pissed her really off by marrying you but I am glad I married you."
"You used your make-up brains for once." Leonid giggled, rubbing her hair and scattering it.
"Hey! Stop, it took hours curling that." Amelia grumbled, pulling at Leonid's hands.
Leonid grabbed her by the waist and pushed her against the wall. He pinned her against the wall with his big, hard body. Amelia hit his chest.
"Try pushing me now." He said.
She pouted, "It's no fun intimidating a woman with your body just because you are bigger and stronger."
"Intimidating a woman? You are my wife, I can only do it to you."
Amelia used all her strength to push him, Leonid respected her by pretending her push was strong. He staggered back and fell on the bed. Amelia was skinny and was also weak even though she tried to act strong.
Independent woman vibe.
"That push hurts."
Amelia glared at him. "Keep making fun of me."
Leonid smiled at her, "You look so cute while angry."
"Get ready, we are running late." Amelia stated, walking to the wardrobe and pulling out a suit. She tossed it to Leonid, "Get ready big boy."
Leonid stared at the outfit and smiled, Amelia had actually gotten something for him. He knew the suit was going to make him look so much better than he looked.
"Have your bath and let me help you comb your hair. You also need to shampoo it, it looks like something a mouse chews on."
"Geez! Elia, that's cruel."
"Not cruel enough until I spank your ass. Into the bathroom Nid."
She gave him a cute smile and went back to sit in front of the mirror. Leonid winked at her before taking off his clothes.
"Have no self shame? Taking off your clothes in front of me?" Amelia yelled, covering her eyes with her hands.
Leonid glanced back at her, confused. "What's wrong with it?"
Amelia's face had turned bright red, she was blushing so hard that Leonid thought she was going to explode.
"Are you blushing or is it just hot?" Leonid questioned in an attempt to piss her off.
"Get out Leonid." Amelia snarled.
Leonid laughed. "Okay, okay, I am going but don't drool too much."
Amelia removed her hands from her face and a heel went flying in the air. Hitting Leonid on his chest, he turned around and ran into the bathroom. Another heel hit the door, making a loud noise.
"Let me help you with your tie; you look great now. Your hair doesn’t look like it was chewed by mice anymore, and your beards look different too." Amelia stated. "Don’t say anything; it’s okay; you don’t have to thank me." Leonid gazed at his reflection in the mirror, admiring his appearance. He couldn't recall the last time he looked so great. She had assisted him with washing his hair, despite the fact that it was with her feminine products. His hair, which cascaded down his shoulders, was gleaming and sparkling. The fragrance was enticing, and Leonid resisted the temptation to grab a strand of his hair and smell it. "I am still going to say thank you for grooming me; it was a good thought and also a good thing to do, but now the ladies will keep on flirting with me," Leonid said, winking at his wife from the mirror. He wanted to tease her, and he sure did because she frowned at him and said, "There are women flirting with you?" She questioned. "You should know since you were al
"We can celebrate now without any distractions. I will order more drinks. Amelia said."Go ahead, sweetie." Mrs. Harrington saidAmelia touched her neck and took out the necklace Leonid had bought earlier."Leonid bought me a necklace; it is actually really pretty. I love it."At the mention of the necklace, Mr. Harrington scoffed in disgust."A $20 to $50 necklace. Amelia, you are worth more than that." Mr. Harrington complained.Amelia glanced at Leonid before inspecting the necklace again. "It's not worth $50; it costs more than you think it does."Mr. Harrington snickered. "As long as it comes from Leonid, it is going to be awful and cheap."Amelia stopped touching the necklace. The necklace stayed on her chest, and she refused to argue with her parents about the necklace. Apart from the fact that it was not worth the argument, they were going to keep on saying her husband was cheap.Leonid felt like a ghost as they all began talking, totally ignoring him in the picture. Amelia ha
"Take it." Mrs. Harrington urged "The money would go a long way for you. Your debt would be reduced." "$1 million is a huge amount of money, and he is giving it to you for free." Amelia glanced at Leonid; their eyes locked. She waved her head pleading with her eyes that he shouldn't take it. Without waiting for a reply, Ethan pulled out a check from his pocket and took out a pen. He placed the check on the table and wrote down the amount he intended to give to Leonid. For $1.1 million, I still added a little for you trying to take care of Amelia." He pushed the check across the table until it was in front of Leonid. Mrs. Harrington's face lit up into a smile. "Leonid is too poor to refuse that amount of money, Amelia. Get ready to say goodbye to your husband." "No!" Amelia yelled. "Leonid can never do that to me; he is far too loyal to choose money over me." Leonid glanced at the check. He read the amount that was written on the check. Amelia kept on watching him, with a look of
Ethan snickered at the thought of Leonid having company. Mr. and Mrs. Harrington couldn't stop themselves from laughing. Leonid, on the other hand, looked humiliated; the other diners were still throwing stares at them.Amelia, stop whatever you are doing now; it's only going to make me look worse than now." Leonid whispered to her.Amelia shook her head. "No way am I letting them bully you now."Leonid bit his tongue to stop himself from speaking out loud. "This is only making matters worse; I can't have company. Not with the debts on my neck, Amelia understands.""But you are always bullied.""I am used to it." He whispered. "It doesn't matter.""Enough of the little talks; I do know it is impossible for Leonid to have a company. Not even in his dream." Ethan said.Mrs. Harrington supported him. "He probably might be thinking of starting a company, but it is not possible to start one."Mother, that is enough; we are leaving." Amelia said this and stood to her feet.Mrs. Harrington f
Leonid felt like the biggest jerk; he shouldn’t have left Amelia alone at the restaurant with her parents. Anger and upset had clouded his judgment. He couldn't believe he had thrown away everything his mother had taught him. The words she had imparted offered some solace.‘Act like you don't hear it.’Reacting to Mrs. Harrington's comments made no difference. They would continue to perceive him in the same way. His wife wasn't home yet, and he suspected she might have become intoxicated; anything could happen in that state. He paced restlessly, picked up his phone, and dialed her number. The phone rang multiple times before transferring to voicemail."Hello, this is Amelia Harrington Vanderbilt. Please leave a message."Leonid tossed his phone onto the bed but instantly retrieved it, remembering the potential consequences of its damage. He couldn't afford to replace it. He heaved a sigh of relief as the phone landed safely. He took it in his hand and dialed her number again."Hi, it'
Leonid glanced at the scorpion with a hard look on his face. No matter what they did to him, he was never going to divorce Amelia. She was the second woman who had taken care of him in the whole world when nobody loved him. He could not betray her by letting her go for no reason. Even though he was staring death in the face, he was never going to do it.Leonid was still quiet because if he dared say a word, the knife was going to go right into his skin. Scorpion retrieved the knife and wiped the part that had touched Leonid."You are scared of talking because of the knife.""No," Leonid said."Are you going to sign the papers now in peace, or will my men play with you before you agree?""I am not signing the papers," Leonid stated firmly.Scorpion studied him for a moment before putting the knife under Leonid's jaw and raising his face with it."Still brave in the face of death?"There was no response from Leonid. Scorpion couldn't read the reaction on Leonid's face either."I ask you
The men stared at Leonid like he was crazy. After all that they had told him, he still stood his ground and refused to sign. X2X smiled and picked up the baseball bat. He raised it up and attempted to slap it on Leonid’s head. "You will kill him that way," Scorpion said. "Hit him little by little; he would have no choice but to answer." X2X dropped the baseball bat; he held the rubber glove in his hand and snapped it with a menacing grin. The sound of the snap echoed in the air, chilling anticipation of what was to come. Leonid's heart pounded louder, and his breath was ragged as he stood there, determined yet terrified. He knew he was trapped, cornered by circumstances he couldn't control. But he couldn't let them break him. He couldn't let them force him into a decision that he knew was wrong. As the rubber glove was pulled onto X2X's hand, Leonid's gaze hardened. He met the man's eyes, a defiant glint burning within his own. He wouldn't allow them to strip away his dignity, no m
The new arrivals flooded in, their presence commanding attention. The leader of the group, a tall figure with a leather-clad form, stepped forward. His eyes scanned the room, taking in the scene of turmoil and violence. His gaze locked onto Leonid's battered form, and a flicker of concern crossed his features. The room fell into an uneasy silence as the newcomers sized up the situation. X2X, X3X, and Scorpion stood frozen, their earlier confidence evaporated in the face of this unexpected turn of events. The leader's voice cut through the tension like a blade. "That's enough."His command was met with a swift response from his companions. The other riders moved with practiced precision, positioning themselves between the tormentors and Leonid. They emanated an aura of authority, of individuals who were accustomed to taking control.Leonid, his body battered and his spirit weary, couldn't believe his eyes. A glimmer of hope ignited within him, a chance for salvation that he had never a
