The highway was wet with drizzle from about an hour ago. Chris took his concentration off the road for a second as he pulled his cell phone from his breast pocket. The way was deserted, he'd not seen a car in sight since he began the journey back to town but he hadn't expected to. Where Gufan Mellik lived was pretty far from the heart of town and Chris knew exactly why the man liked his solitude.

He rang Anneliese, praying that the boastful lady would for once take her call and not try to prove a point first. On the second ring, she answered the phone rudely.

"What do you want, Christian?" She asked heatedly, "I hate every second I spend talking to you about shenanigans."

Chris exhaled, trying to calm himself, he needed to be careful with her, he knew all too well how erratic she was. "Hello to you too, Ann, I'm calling to__"

"Cut the pleasantries, Chris, I don't want to talk to you unless you agree with the terms of my offer. I've told my parents about it and we think it's even i

Anneliese was furious that the lord had appeared at the moment. She wanted to send Chris out of the house immediately until he was frustrated and finally signed off his companies, but now that the lord was there, he was going to meet with him at just no cost. "Get out, now!" She snapped and flung her arms at the closed door, "This family has no business dealing with a pauper like you." "I'm a pauper because I refused to sign away my company? You are always too eager to reap where you haven't shown any seed, dream on Anneliese." Chris retorted. "That's enough, who is this?" Ephraim asked as he walked into the living room and took a seat. "It's no one important, lord Ephraim, he was just leaving," Anneliese replied quickly and glared at Chris. Laura sneered at him too and asked him out at once, "Have you forgotten that you are no longer a part of this family? You aren't even married to our daughter anymore, I was - we were - only trying to help you and now you're growing premature

This was yet another time his in-laws were shocked at how Chris seemed to always be a step ahead of them. Anneliese was fuming when Chris walked outside, the documents he'd prepared duly signed by Ephraim, it was official, he was now a member of the board of directors for the Duke Empire. With a smirk still on his face, he could recall Anneliese's shocked expression and the deadly sneer that was etched on her parents' faces. “You can't do this lord Ephraim! He is not eligible for such a prestigious position!" Martin snapped, and Laura agreed immediately, stating that Chris was a nobody. "He can't be on the administrative board of the company! He can only be a staff if you must help him, which I think he doesn't even deserve our help." Laura snapped. Chris did not have to throw words at them, he understood that he had the man right where he wanted him and nothing his family could say at that point would dissuade him from taking his offer. "Chris has some very relevant ideas that c

The phone rang a little too late. Looking up, the manager knew that he'd just made a terrible mistake. With shaky hands, he looked at the documents again, hoping his eyes had been seen wrongly, but he wasn't that lucky, he'd seen right and Chris was indeed his superior. "I...I'm so sorry." He muttered under his breath, his knees weak and the hands that he had raised to hit Chris now boneless by his side. "Did you want to hit me?" Chris asked with a smirk on his face. The manager knew he was done for, nothing he did or said could undo the insults he had already given to Chris. "I didn't mean to, sir, I thought you were just a__" he stammered and Chris waved him off casually, his face stoic. The entire desk was quiet, the other board members were looking about nervously, the anxiety could be seen on their faces, they wondered who would come in and make the ruthless manager cower. Chris looked at the desk and asked, "Is he a good leader?" The desk was quiet and instead of a di

The offices in the Robinson family were quieter than usual. Some of the staff had been laid off and not for lack of money - although soon, that too would be a bone of contention - but mostly for mistrust. Potter was not a party to firing the staff but he wasn't ready to be a dictator and override the consensus of the board, even if he had every right by the constitution to do so. After the third secretary had been fired and the accountant general put on probation, Potter knew it was getting out of hand and the press would be upon them soon. It was a cloudy afternoon when Potter stepped out into the cold air, he was heading to his car when he heard the screeching of tyres, and turning to his left, he could see a maroon Bentley in sight. Curious, he stood rooted until he saw the doors open and two men dressed in black stepped out. They walked to him and although his heart was hammering wildly, he stood his ground. "The Jupiter wants an audience with you." The man with dark sunglass

Chris has taken over the Duke Empire. With major changes made to the board and other aspects of the company, the old staff weren't so happy with it. That morning, Christian sat on his swivel chair, his hands crossed over his chest, his eyes solely focused on the screen. The records spoke volumes, he could see the corruption wrought in the place, the records hadn't been reviewed for many years and Richmond had been stealing from the company. Just as he wanted to place a call to Ephraim, he heard the door open and the secretary, whose name he could not remember, came in. "I'm so sorry sir, there's a woman in the lobby who insists on seeing you and I know that you've just taken over the company, I don't know who is__" before the secretary could complete her statement, Chris saw Anneliese storm into the office, a nasty scowl on her face. "What madness! You think I need his permission to show up in my family company?" She sneered and moved the secretary aside, dropping her bag on

Chris froze, he could not believe his ears. Ephraim sat unflinching as he stated it, his face was blank. "We had a deal, lord Ephraim." He said. The old man scoffed and said their deal was still active. "We had a deal, Chris, and that deal is still on," he said and added, "I can't remember telling you that you'd be the head of the board, there are other people who may be more fit for that position, being on that seat depends entirely on you." He said with a suggestive smile. "What do you want, lord Ephraim?" He asked boldly, he could tell that the lord had something on his mind. "You're a really smart boy, Chris, I knew you'd understand." He said with a smirk and pulled the records closer, flipping the books until he found the page where his weekly percentage was deducted from the company account, then he showed it to him. Chris' eyes widened, it was a whopping $12 million and it was no surprise that the firm had collapsed suddenly, that and the fact that Richmond was stealing fr

Christian is stunned. He had guessed that Potter would be greatly opposed on the table, after all, he was not a member of the family, but he never thought that the Jupiter would be that opposition, especially since she rarely meddled in the company's day-to-day activities. "She said this herself?" He asked and Potter agreed. "In her very own words, she's worried that the company is losing a lot of money, so we've had to fire some staff as well." He said. Chris scoffed, "I guess that rain is falling on more than just one roof," he muttered, more to himself than the old man on the phone. "What do you think? Should__" Chris cut him in before he could say anything stupid. He knew too well that the old man was never ready for all that he was facing, but he had to be strong. "Listen to me, Potter, I know it's hard, but a lot will break if you give up now," he warned, "That's not even an option."He could hear Potter sigh on the other end and he felt bad for stressing the old man, "Do y

Chris was stunned at the audacity of the man. He looked at him but his gaze was unwavering. "That's a lot of money, you just got a cheque a day ago, lord Ephraim." He reminded him promptly. "I don't have amnesia, Christian, Robinson, I know when I got to cheque, I also know that if isn't enough to get the work done, I have a lot to achieve and I need a lot of money, you should understand this, after all, you're a businessman." He said and Chris nodded. Ephraim knew that in a matter of days, he'd taken so much from the company that it was a wonder Chris didn't give up. He was hoping that when he made the $60 million demand, that would be the final straw, but Chris seemed ready to negotiate rather than disagree blatantly as he'd expected. "So you must understand how these things work, I have to get a lot of money from the company to make money off the land I just acquired, there are a lot of deeds to be paid for the many years it was left there, there is a lot of taxes too, all this

Sonya couldn't believe her eyes, she gasped and that was how she fell into the orbit who was right behind her. One of them caught her swiftly and everyone quickly called for the company doctor. Chris remained calm. She was just in shock and would no doubt be revived with a little air and water. He could only imagine what it felt like to be thrown down after such years in power. "Where have you been, son?" Pa Pete asked and Julius only smiled. He was a spitting image of his twin, Evans Robinson and he didn't look like the years had treated him badly at all. Some of the men on the table who knew that their hands were stained and they'd been working with Sonya to condemn Christian, all looked down in shame because they could face him or Julius. "Now that you're back, what will be the fate of the executive board?" One of them mustered the courage to ask. But that wasn't really what he meant and everyone could tell. He was trying to find out what Julius would do to them that had gotten

Christian could still remember the way to Orton and he certainly could tell that it wasn't the same route they were being taken. "What's going on? Aren't we meeting with Orton anymore?" He asked and the man simply looked at them without saying anything. Christian swallowed nervously but quietly followed him until they got to a part of the tunnel where the light became brighter and they could see a glass room in the distance. Right through the glass sat an old man at a desk, Orton. "While I still breathe," Evans said as he entered the glass cave. "I never thought I'd see you after so many years, I could swear you vowed never to see the Robinson family again." Orton looked at them quietly and then offered them both the double-seated couch, asking if they needed a strong Irish coffee. "We'll be needing more than a cup of coffee from you," Evans replied with a serious face. He pulled ou

Evans had a plan and that plan was foolproof - or so they both believed. Right there in the living room, Christian showed the token to Evans and after he stared at it in awe, he said it would take them right to Berlin. They arrived at the small town the next day. Evans was in the front seat and Christian was in the driver's seat. His face was twisted in an ugly frown. "I told you to let Potter drive us, he's more mature on the wheel, we almost had an accident on the way here, I hate to think what will happen as we return," Evans said as he stepped out of the vehicle. "I hate this place, I could almost swear nothing would ever bring me back here," he spat angrily. Evans laughed at him, "Never say never, my son, life can be a rollercoaster sometimes," he said. Christian wiped at his head, a bead of perspiration had formed from the warm air. He pulled off his sunglasses and stared at the small pub that still stood in the distance. Karen was still in business and that only meant one t

It was four days after the legendary meeting at the Robinson lobby. Christian hadn't shown up at the company for that long. It made Jupiter happy that one thing she'd hoped for had worked out - Christian was too embarrassed to come back out. That fateful afternoon, Christian was at the Robinson estate after such a long time. If there was ever going to be a time he needed Evans' help, it was then. Arriving at the door, it was Melissa who welcomed him in and he nodded at her mutely and crossed the threshold. "It's been a long time since I last saw you, Christian," Melissa said as she ushered him in. Christian didn't say anything still. He didn't want to talk to her, he was in too sore a mood too. "I know what...how it went last time was not ideal. I know you trusted me with...well, I disappointed you and tried to cause a rift between you and Evans, I'm sorry," she said. Christian again simply nodded. Melissa sighed, she looked remorseful. She was dressed in a sheer green gown and shaw

Sonya did not look so confident anymore, her weak bones trembled and she quickly grabbed onto the desk for support. Christian still wore a smirk on his face as his grandfather, Pa Pete looked warily at the document on the desk."You got the deal?" He asked, his tone disbelieving. Christian did not reply, at least not verbally, he remained standing with a smile on his face. "This is ridiculous!" Sonya yelled, "There is no way this boy could secure a deal with Otec, there is also no way in hell that he knows Orton Berlin," she snapped. Christian dipped his hands into his breast pocket and retrieved the token that Orton had given to him, he did not bother handing it to her but simply slammed it on the table. With shaky wrinkled hands, Sonya picked up the token, she turned pale, her eyes wide in shock. "But how! I have been dying to meet this man all my life, how could you get the Supreme token?" Sonya asked, still in disbelief. "You are not the only one that can weasel your way into p

Sonya took the flowers and had half the mind to toss it in his face but she had to reign in her temper. She instead snatched it up aggressively and tossed it at one of the Orbits who held it like it burned. "What do you have to say concerning the challenge you called, Christian? Are you having a change of heart?" She asked and immediately one of the board members said loudly, "He can't do that! The entire board knows about it and we won't allow such cowardice!" The man snapped. "Who said anything about backing out?" Christian asked and the man began to stammer foolishly before sitting down. Jupiter was pleased with the way they all treated Chris, everyone was attacking him. "Will we all let him speak?" Pete snapped, his voice rising above the others. Pa Pete was hesitant to begin the proceedings of the meeting and everyone on the table noticed, especially Chris who was just right beside him.Sonya must have noticed too because she smiled and said mockingly, "Are your feet getting heavier for you, Pa Pete? Perhaps it's not just your grandson that needs replacing, you too might be getting a little too old for that seat." Pete ignored her and looked at Christian who calmly nodded at him, a silent approval to commence the meeting. There was no need to wait, it wouldn't change the outcome of the meeting anyway. The orbits were right behind Jupiter, all six of them stood like rods, stuff, unyielding, with their hands crossed. Pete looked at them scornfully and then cleared his throat a little too loud. Hope is a formidable force, even a single ray can light up the darkest abyss. Christian Robinson could attest to this as he woke up that morning, feeling a lot better than he'd slept. He had a feeling that the world was aligning right where it ought to be and he was at the helm of it all - where he'd always wanted. "Sir, your suit just arrived," his servant bowed as he entered the room. Christian hadn't heard him knock but he was sure he had, he'd no doubt been too lost in thought to hear. "Thank you, I'll be right out." He replied and the man nodded as he left. He looked again at the mirror and smirked, his crisp white shirt was tucked beautifully into his black trousers, and his shoe just a little shiny. He'd called back his servants the previous evening just as he'd gotten that token from Berlin. He had a feeling his life was about to change for good, he had a gut feeling. Christian left the room and took the suit from the servant as he got to his car - he'd decided he was dri

The exit of the tunnel led to a small boutique that was on the outskirts of town, close to where the train station was. As he climbed up to the stairwell and pushed the door open, he noticed that no one seemed interested in him even though they'd seen him crawl out of the ground. The receptionist at the desk simply looked at him blankly as he walked out the door and Christian figured that the establishment belonged to Orton, a way of making the tunnel he'd made. It was a brilliant idea, there was no way someone could guess that there was an entire world down there, an entire company. Chris could not get to his car that morning, he'd barely been able to get home in time for a change of outfit before he headed down to Otec - again. This was his second time parked outside the gigantic building and he didn't fail to marvel at the beauty of it all. He sighed as he pulled out the proposal from his dashboard and clutched the token that Orton had given him firmly in his grip. Coming down
