I opened the door to leave our room and found Walter sitting on a bench across the hall.

"Ah, good morning, my lord," he said with a smile.

"Is that...really necessary?" I asked him.

"I call Isabella my lady, it is only natural to call her husband my lord. Isabella is the First Princess. The crown Princess. That makes you the crown Prince. You're a Prince now and I must address you with respect," Walter said.

Then why call us lord and lady if we're royalty? Or is that just your thing?

"Feels a bit odd..."

"Really? I've been memorizing it all morning. I already have it down. It would be harder for me to unlearn it at this point. With me being an old man and all..."

"Fine fine. But if I forget to respond, don't blame me."

"I am quite sure that you will get used to it, my lord. Where is Isabella?"

"She's sleeping. She isn't feeling well right now."

"Ah. I see. Morning sickness, is it?"

"Morning what?"

What is this old man talking about? She's not sick, she's exhausted!

"Well, did you

For the next few days, Isabella would go in and out of consciousness. She seemed to be a tad out of it, but still remembered everything. I made sure to keep a close watch on her.But sometimes, I would catch her doing strange things like playing the violin in the middle of the night or muttering to herself while I wasn't paying attention. Which usually was about numbers, negotiation tactics, or politics.Things far beyond my understanding, of course. Her condition was slowly improving and her ability to stay awake was getting better over time.I made sure she was well taken care of.In the meantime, I tried to keep myself busy by reading any news or materials I could find related to the Black Ooze. The King had granted me full unrestricted access to all of their information on it.This included a list of every known and documented location that it had appeared, its apparent behaviors, the monsters that sometimes spawned from it, its effects on people, animals, and the environment. My

My dreams the next night were terrifying.I was so concerned with the Black Ooze, that I couldn't stop thinking about it. The result was a horrible nightmare. I saw everyone I love consumed by the darkness.Every time I would try to fight back, it wasn't enough. It was so horrifying that I woke up screaming... Luckily Isabella was there to calm me.She had mostly regained her senses and was very worried about me... Truly, I was lucky to have her. I managed to sleep again after she comforted me.When I awoke, there she was as usual. Holding onto me and shoring loudly. In the past, I might have found it hard to sleep with such noise, but knowing Isabella was close made me feel at ease.I moved to get up and her grip tightened on me."Please stay a little longer, Mizik... You need to relax..." She said as she slowly opened her eyes.I didn't want a repeat of yesterday, but I knew she was right... Especially since I had that nightmare..."Isabella...are you feeling well?" I asked her."

  • The Hero of Vengeance   Chapter 45: The Road To Noir

We awoke that morning feeling particularly refreshed. We got dressed and said our goodbyes to everyone at the diner, then we were on our way. After we had arrived at the castle, we found two large carriages surrounded by knights on horses. These men were to be our guards for the trip. I could see Sir Gordon at the front of the convoy. He was speaking with one of the knights and I chose not to bother him. We would have plenty of time to speak later, most likely. We decided to go into the castle and say our goodbyes to the King and Queen as well as Walter before leaving."I hope the two of you have a safe trip. Mizik, your documents are in order, I hope?" The King said."Yes. I have everything I need to prove my identity and ownership," I replied.Of course I did. The documents scarcely ever left my inventory because they were far too precious to just leave lying around..."Protect my daughter for me, Mizik. I'm counting on you. I don't expect Tyranus to just simply roll over, but if h

  • The Hero of Vengeance   Chapter 46: The Kalsan Border

Four days passed as Isabella and I continued on the road to Kalsa.Somehow, we kept ourselves entertained and managed to find things to talk about. Sometimes we would simply stare out of the carriage window at the scenery. The convoy would occasionally stop for breaks to allow the horses rest and for everyone to eat. For the most part, however, we were left alone. That is to say, aside from the occasional knight checking in on us as well as the Grandmaster. At one point, we invited him to sit with us but he declined. He wanted to stay at the front and keep watch.Sir Gordon was a great guy, but I always felt he was too serious about his job... Although I suppose one didn't become Grandmaster without that kind of determination.Eventually, we could see large stone walls in the distance.A short while later, we pulled up to the border gate and were stopped. "Looks like we're finally at the border," I said."Yes. I hope they let us through... We mean no harm," Isabella said."Would the

"What the hell was that!?" Amelia shouted."NOOOOO PLEASE!!! STAY BACK! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH-" a bloody scream was heard followed by a loud crunching sound."KILL IT! SHOOT IT WITH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE!!! KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE WALL!!!" Another voice screamed from atop the rampart. Then I saw it.The Black Ooze spread over the top of the rampart as a massive creature that looked like a dark shifting blob covered in eyes, mouths and tentacles, climbed over the wall.It sat atop the wall and grabbed several soldiers. Throwing them all screaming into it's mouths and chewing them up.Several of the guards vomited at the sight and everyone backed away."WHAT IN THE DIVINE REALM IS THAT THING!?" Amelia shouted."THE REASON WE'RE HERE, DUMBASS!" I screamed at her."What'd you say!? Are you the cause of-" "SHUT UP! WE'RE HERE TO STOP IT!" I continued."..." Amelia was silent."Let's call a truce! The barracks were open, but Amelia allowed the two of us to use her personal bathroom instead of the communal showers. While I showered, Isabella stood guard just on the other side of the curtain.A few minutes later, I heard he door open. Can we have some damn privacy? "Well, hello beautiful. I was hoping to catch you as you were washing up, but this is almost as nice," the imposing guard from before said."You are trespassing. Leave at once or I'll paint the walls red with your entrails!" Isabella hissed."She's married, buddy. And not interested in trash. Can you leave?" I said.I could see the silhouette of Isabella holding Bravery to his throat. At that moment I heard heavy footsteps."Lieutenant! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!?" Amelia shouted."Eh...umm...I just wanted to ensure that the Princess was okay!" The Lieutenant said."This filth was trying to have his way with me. I demand that he leave at once before I cut him down!" Isabella said."The bathroom is in use!

Once we were up, we immediately set out for Noir. Amelia and Sir Gordon led the convoy to its destination. We moved as quickly as possible, but not too much that the horses and knights would be exhausted.About six days later, we reached the Kalsan City of Noir.We pulled up to the front gates and paused for a moment. The knights of Noir checked the carriages to be sure that we didn't have anything suspicious... As a result...We heard a knock on the carriage door.Isabella unlocked it and the guard opened the door."We're here to check for any...thing..." The guard stopped as he stared at Isabella."Is there a problem?" She asked him."N-n-no... Who are you?" He asked quickly."I am First Princess Isabella Victoria Albatross. I am here on important business with my husband," she said. He stared at her in response. Almost as if he were in a trance."Isabella, let me talk to him," I said.I was really tired of people undressing her with their eyes...Isabella leaned back and I waved

I said.A moment later, we heard the sound of clinking glass. We looked in the direction of the noise and saw the man himself.Archduke Tyranus Iratus."May I have everyone's attention, please? Thank you. I am delighted to announce the return of one of our wayward brothers on this momentous occasion! Many of you are quite familiar with the new face already, but allow me to introduce him. Everyone, please welcome my cousin, the only living descendant of my dear uncle Ulysses: Mizik Iratus!" The Oracle was quite literally dragged to the Cursebreaker. She had gone completely insane after being killed, tortured, and reset ten thousand times."I have successfully discovered the source of my curse," Vakra said."Is it her?" I said as I looked at the Oracle. She wouldn't move anymore."No. Her power is part of it, but she isn't the one who cursed me. I'm guessing that it was a higher power. But who could be higher than the Oracle? The Creator, of course.""So you were cursed by the architect of all of creation? That makes sense. Why would he want you running wild and defying reality like that?""Ugh...it pains me to admit it, but you are correct, Mizik... My abilities made a mockery of his creation and I was likely cursed as a result. Meaning that I can never erase this curse.""So sad to hear. But that's also a good thing for me. I don't think I would trust you if I couldn't contain you," I said."Right...and you'd be correct to assume such a thing. But I suppose I should get

And they would bear witness to the monster she created out of her own stubbornness and stupidity. We currently stood backstage. We were waiting for the Artificer to give the signal. And that's when I heard him speak."Greetings, people of Excelsis. As you well know already, I am the Artificer. The Guardian of Dominus. Today, you have all gathered here without knowing why...and soon you will find out. Good citizens of the realm, some of you are still haunted by the things you saw before the reset was ended. Most of you have no clear idea as to why Excelsis was violently razed to the ground by the man who calls himself: Destroyer. Well...that is the folly of your former leader. The Oracle is the o

The Artificer assured us that the area was secure. He was sure that the Oracle's Faithful had completely abandoned Excelsis. On every corner, we saw a squad of six drones. Additionally, other groups could be seen flying around above.Still, despite all of this...Isabella remained ever vigilant. Always clinging to my arm and staying right next to me. Despite the Artificer's reassurance, she continued to protect me.Stella followed behind with a content smile on her face. After a short while of looking at the different attractions, I found Iris along with Carlos and Leiso.Carlos looked a bit bored while Leiso seemed out of place.Iris was playing a game at a stall featuring several

  • Chapter 253: Missing Faithful

A few days later, things were finally beginning to look different in Excelsis.I could see flying metal constructs buzzing around in the air on insect-like wings, surveying the area. At the same time, many of the people of Excelsis were setting up decorations for a festival.Hilariously, they wouldn't know what they were celebrating until the day arrived. And as I sat on a bench nearby, Isabella sat happily next to me, clinging to my arm.Stella stood at my side surveying the area. There would have been other troops under her, but I chose not to bring them. The soldiers were specifically for the defense of the ship itself."Hmm..." "Is something wrong, Master?" Isabella said."You're having way too much fun calling me that, aren't you?" I said."Ehehe...guilty. I like seeing your reaction. But if I'm going to be a slave, I should play the part, yes?"I suppose so..." • Chapter 252: Heart Resonance

As we walked back to the Cursebreaker, I could see Isabella constantly surveying the surrounding area for potential threats. However, many of the gods walking the streets recognized me as the one who razed Excelsis to the ground. The one who brought death and destruction to their realm. The result, was that they were absolutely terrified of me and made no attempts to approach. After all, many of them had actually been killed as a result of my actions. All the while I secretly remained on the lookout for a potential candidate. One goddess from this realm would join us on our ship. They would become mine forever and dedicate their existence to serving me and stopping the Corruption. But unfortunately, none of these would do. They were weak. I decided to ignore them and focus on something else.I had other plans, currently. I would be speaking to Iris and everyone about what she had to show them. They were valuable crew members, so I wanted to see what she had planned.Once we reached t

After a month-long journey back to Excelsis...we finally returned.I couldn't believe how long it took to get back.We didn't have access to the divine transit, and as a result, it took much longer to get there.Of course, that gave me an idea. I wondered if I could potentially have a personal god or goddess to join our crew. Then I stopped and though about it more...Definitely a goddess. While more pleasing to look at, I could bring her even closer to me. And if she's completely under my control, she'll follow every order willingly. Best of all, someone like that is highly unlikely to betray me. I wouldn't have to enact vengeance upon her and remain on good terms...I almost smiled. That would be my next goal...find a goddess to join our crew to have permanent access to the divine transit. And maybe...Make new Enforcers...?It was too amazing. Our combat force would grow significantly from such a thing. We would be even stronger than before!I made a mental note to also have Iris t

Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about computer programming to change her behavior. And Vakra refused even under the threat of death. So...we were stuck with her...A hour passed and Cassandra affectionately held onto my arm while humming."Having fun...?" I asked."Of course! I get to be with my darling Mizik!"
