"Excuse me?" Isabella said. "What do you mean by that...?""You will face one of us in battle. If you succeed, we will consider you strong enough to help us out. If you fail, we will send you away," Dante said."If you send us away, does that mean we have to freeze to death when winter rolls around?" I asked."You mean go back to your...treehouse...? That, I can't answer. It depends on what Iris wants to do. She could send you to a divine realm and they would sort you out from there. Likely, you would be sent back to Avernia regardless of its current state," Dante said as he motioned towards the woman on the throne behind him.I looked up at the teal-haired woman and she smiled at me.I couldn't tell if it was friendly or not...But...the prospect of being sent back to Avernia absolutely terrified me. That world was lost and we would be sent to our doom in such a scenario."But if you prove useful, Iris should be able to grant you a blessing to help you get past the language barrier.
"How do you want to do this?" I asked Isabella."Stay behind me. I'll take their attacks and-""You think we're stupid enough to just hit that shield of yours while your boyfriend kills us?" Gavin said, interrupting Isabella."Indeed. After the display you showed, we have determined that attacking you is pointless. We will be aiming for that boy instead. Once he is dealt with, your resolve will be shattered. You will die here together," Leiso said coldly. She adopted a fighting stance and several iron spikes rose from the ground around her and Gavin. They were soon covered in water and then levitated while being pointed at us.I could feel a breeze blowing and several sparks erupted around Gavin. Why can't we just talk things out?"Are you two really so against us?" I asked."I may have gone easy on you because you are children, but you're still otherworlders. You don't belong here," Leiso said."I'm gonna enjoy blowing you two to bits!" Gavin growled angrily.Isabella raised her shie
Several hours later, we were sitting and waiting for the Enforcers to finish helping the authorities. The carnage in the arena was too much for some of the regular police officers and the Enforcers felt it necessary to aid them. They were curious as to why it didn't bother us, but...We simply told them that we'd seen much worse in the past. And that was an understatement for someone like me. I still remembered the Lorelei sewers among other things like the Iratus estate, as well. Not to mention...the horror we went through before we came here with the shadow dragon and the dwarven city.Gore and carnage didn't really bother us anymore.Eventually, everything was in order and Yakon was taken to a special holding facility where he would be interrogated. We were brought back to the Enforcer HQ to have a talk with everyone. We stood in front of the five of them and Iris sat on her throne in the back."Enforcers, I propose that we add these two to our ranks. With their strength, we would
After the two of us exited the awakening room, we spoke at length with Dante. In short, he recorded as much information about us as possible before sending off several documents. The goal was to have our personal information recorded in a sort of system for government use. Since we were obligated to provide the information, we did so without hesitation. It was very reminiscent of the arcane library connected to the adventurers guild except with technology and not magic.Dante still had to write everything down for us. We could now read and understand speech in any language. But writing the language was still another story entirely. Until we learned to write, we would have to have other people do it for us. One of the issues that came up was our birth dates. In Avernia, I had been born later in the year. In the autumn season. Isabella had been born a month later but two years prior. When we left Avernia, it was springtime. It was already late in the summer here on Ignitus. Dante de
In the week leading up towards our enrollment in the academy, Leiso took to training us. I made it a point to speak to her about an ability that Vengeance had, shapeshifting weapon.Once she learned that I had such a power, she began to also help me understand how the weapons on Ignitus worked. They had many different types of projectile, explosive, and even energy weapons that fired a superheated substance called 'plasma'. Just like what Yakon had been using. They even had weapons that fired heated light called laser rifles.Since it would be impossible to learn about these things in a single week, Leiso decided to put some of them on hold. After all, the technology in Avernia was extremely primitive compared to what they had on Ignitus. I didn't have the faintest idea of how any of it functioned.Still, I would be learning how to build, deconstruct, and preform maintenance on all of these weapons from both Leiso and specialist engineers that built them for a living. In between the
As we continued our routine, we learned a few things about our...sadistic instructor...Surprisingly enough, Leiso was actually over 1,500 years old. She had mastered hundreds of types of martial arts and was highly experienced with all kinds of melee weapons. She also taught me how to properly fight while dual wielding swords and other types of close combat weaponry. Not that I didn't know how to use a sword, of course.Using two at the same time was much more complicated than using just one and a shield.Later in our training, I had become very adept at martial arts and Leiso helped me develop a style most suited for my offensive disposition. Isabella had taken to a more defensive and counter attack based fighting style.Leiso took a special approach to dealing with Isabella's naturally high defense and fought using steel gauntlets she summoned herself. The first time she punched Isabella directly, she broke her hand. Iris had to come by and fix it for her and she made me regret lau
"Did I hear that right!?" I asked."Two Ultra Aspects!?" Isabella said.Iris nodded."This has never happened before. In the entire history of Ignitus, no one has ever awakened two Ultra Aspects at the same time. It's unheard of. Impossible! Such a person can't exist! But...here are two of them right in front of me!""How powerful would that make someone?" I asked."Let's put it into perspective... Dante is more powerful than the vast majority of our military combined. He is the only one capable of doing battle with Kazuma and he has only one Ultra Aspect. Both of you would easily be more powerful than Dante or Kazuma... Perhaps even combined. Novak and I would be the only things capable of actually challenging you based on power alone...""But you're gods. Do gods even fight?" I asked."Of course they do! That asshole of a war god LOVES to fight people. I'm really powerful too, you know! Novak might also be evil, but he's still a god. In our divine forms, we rank higher than all mort
"Are we all prepared?" Carlos said.Everyone, including Iris all sat down at a round table in the conference room at HQ. Everyone except Carlos, of course. Today he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a white lab coat."Go ahead, Carlos," Dante said."Thank you. I've called you all here today because I want to discuss the Abyss Engine.""And isn't that your area of expertise? Have you figured it out, yet?" Michael said."If you'll let me finish, I can explain," Carlos said sternly."Yes, Mom," Michael said. Why is he an Enforcer, again...?"Iris damn it, Michael! Shut up!" Gavin shouted.Iris' expression turned sour."Excuse me!? Do you any idea how rude it is to use someone's NAME as a swear!? What the hell is wrong with you!?" Iris shouted angrily."I...uh...sorry Lady Iris..." Gavin said meekly."You better be! Don't you ever say that again! ...Jerk...""Ahem...Carlos, would you please continue...?" Dante said."Thank you. Now, Yakon has only revealed a small bit of information on
