A single warrior carrying a shield and a sword dashed forward. Meeting him head on is a goblin that leapt towards him. Looking for the gap in the warrior’s defense as the creature held its poisoned dagger on its vile right hand – a decision that proved to be erroneous as the goblin got hit by an arrow right away. Digging through its left eye as it fell to the ground.
Then came the footsteps that stepped through the corpse of the fallen monster. Five more goblins rushed towards the knight who continued running towards the monsters in return. As he did, three more arrows are shot from behind him. Hitting one more goblin and leaving four to be dealt with. The fighter began murmuring something behind his shield. A short incantation that took nothing less than five seconds to finish. And as he did, a radiant golden aura filed the entirety of his body which sped up and finally closed the gap between him and the remaining goblins.
Within a second, he’s already in front of them – bashing one of the four goblins with his shield that sent the monster flying. This left his body open for a couple of seconds. Allowing the monsters to attack him but, they aren’t able to capitalize on this at all. The moment is just too sudden for them to be able to do anything about it.Meanwhile, the warrior already swung his sword towards the neck of another goblin. The blade got stuck on it for a split second before cutting right through. Decapitating one of the remaining goblins and leaving only two which are now at a loss on what to do.The creatures dropped their weapons, turning tail and running away. But even this is a poor choice on their part as arrows went flying towards them. Hitting both of their backs and making them drop to the ground. As soon as they did, the warrior ran towards the monsters. Handing down judgement as he plunged his shield down on the back of one goblin’s neck after slicing through the back of the other.“That makes fifteen.” The warrior said as he got to his feet. Taking off his helmet as he heard the footsteps of those that are coming towards him. All five of them who are part of his group.“This is a lot of hard work for something that’s supposed to be a [Rank D] mission August.” A woman complained. She holds a bow in her hands and a quiver full of arrows is loaded at her back. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what she contributed to this fight.
“Oh don’t whine about it when we’ve already gotten this far Ellaine. The king himself issued this mission, didn’t he? If we finish this, that guarantees us a pass to a better life.” Augustus commented with a smile spreading on his lips.
“Yeah but you have to take into account the other groups that are coming for that same reward.” Ellaine said in response. Brushing off what his ally just said about the reward and all that. “You said that nobody else is coming for this mission but, there’s already five other groups that came here before us.”“That’s only because they paid a hefty sum to hide the quest from the rest of the hunters as soon as they took it. That’s not my fault anymore, give me a break here.” August replied. “Besides, didn’t I already shoulder the payment for getting the information? All you guys have to do is share in on the rewards so what’s really the problem here?”“I agree with August here.” Clein said, a cloaked cleric who uses a large staff that boosts his incantations. Though it doesn’t seem like it, he actually helped by healing through the wounds of another ally of theirs who got hit by the initial surprise attack of the goblins.Their other members include another warrior who stays in the front line alongside August and a porter who carries all of their stuff for them. This is the group that Augustus is handling and, is actually one that has no chance of failing a [Rank D] mission such as this.
“You guys both know full well why I’m complaining, don’t pretend that you don’t realize it already. Five other groups already went here within the past three days. If this is really a [Rank D] mission, then shouldn’t they’ve been able to finish it by now?” Ellaine asked.“Bah! You’re thinking about it too much. They’re probably too weak. That’s why they haven’t finished it already. As long as the main nest of the monsters isn’t destroyed, the monsters will keep on reproducing. But if all we have to concern ourselves about are goblins, then there isn’t really anything to worry about don’t you think?”Ellaine didn’t give an answer right away and Augustus used this as the perfect opportunity to push his intentions further. Nodding at Clein who is thinking the same way as him.
“We’re not forcing you to tag along Ellaine. You can always go back to the kingdom if you’d like. But don’t expect us to share the reward with you when you quit halfway through.” Clein said.“Come on Ellaine, just think of all the things we can gain from this. Get those doubts out of your head and let’s continue pushing through.”That’s all it needed. That’s all it took. Human greed is something that can never be satiated no matter how much one tries. And the easier it is to grab, the easier it also becomes to blind those who wants to claim everything to themselves. The easier it is to turn anyone into a fool. That is what happened to all of Ellaine’s allies and, that is now what’s happening to her as well. The promise of a good life that’s well within reach. The easy way of accessing it. All of these are right in front of her and only a fool would deny himself or herself such an easy pass at life and so, she finally gave in. Breathing one last sigh as she said:“Fine.”“Perfect” Augustus said. “Then that settles it right? We’re all gonna continue down this road and get that item that our king is making us look for.”“Agreed.” Clein said.“No complaints here.” The other two members commented.“Alright then. If we want to finish this quickly, I suggest we keep on moving. It’s almost night and I don’t want to be caught deep inside the forest without any preparation.”This is something that all of them can agree on easily. Though the goblins prevented them from doing so quickly, they still have a bit of time before darkness completely envelops the night sky. They already checked the calendar as well. They know that there is a full moon tonight which will help them see even more.
Hence the group went on their way and, as soon as ten more minutes passed, they encountered another group of goblins. But this time, they aren’t taken by surprise anymore so they are able to fight back a lot easier compared to the first time.Augustus had the support he needed in the front lines since Baraq has recovered from his earlier injuries. From the back comes the arrows fired by Ellaine and there is supportive healing as well as buffs from Clein. These factors led to the inevitable outcome. After fifteen minutes of combat, Augustus’ hunting group came out victorious; sustaining little to no injuries.“See? What did I tell you? Easy as pie.” Augustus commented.“Save it for when we finish this August.” Ellaine said.“You head the boss.” Clein jokingly added with a playful grin. The group continued marching forward without anything stopping them in their path. There are more goblins that tried to finish them but, none of these actually lived up to the task. All of them got defeated and, with each passing victory came the greater assurance of the group that they would win. This cockiness and arrogance, mixed with their desire to gain the treasures that would lead to a better life for all of them, continued to tunnel their vision towards their goal. They moved hurriedly and in such a way that they decided to forgo with the original plan to make a camp and rest for the night. After all, the moon is shining brightly up in the sky. There’s no way they would be caught in a surprise attack.Yet that is precisely what came next.An hour after deciding to continue travelling even during night, they encountered countless mobs of goblins. Ten mobs, each consisting at least ten monsters at minimum and, twenty at maximum.
The group fought and fought without any seeming end in sight. Though having to deal with nothing but goblins, the mere fact that these kept coming also meant that the group cannot rest. They wore down their bodies. They wore down their minds. And as far as items and equipment are concerned, the potions they prepared for this adventure have run empty as well.
Five minutes passed and more goblins arrived. The group killed these and continued progressing.Five more minutes passed by and the same thing happened, now with two more goblins adding to the horde.
Then four more minutes came to pass without them noticing and just as soon as they killed the last one from the previous batch, the next one came. A larger one once again and all bearing arms.
At that point, a single though ran in the head of all members of Augustus party. The same warning that Ellaine raised before they started off. The concern that she has with this whole ordeal and how it seemed to good to be true because, that is being proven right. It is too good to be true and they have been caught within the spider’s web. Prey that think they are predator that are paying for their arrogance and idiocy – starting with a stab at the side of Clein’s waist.“AHHHH!” The cleric screamed from the top of his lungs, making the others look at him. This instantly led to their porter getting stabbed as well. Right in the middle of his stomach as the poor man dropped to the ground. Instantly flooded by five more goblins that began killing him and biting his flesh mercilessly. The next victim is none other than Ellaine herself.Fighting for as long as they’ve been, she finally ran out of ammunition. Without anything to use other than daggers that she isn’t as proficient with, she instantly got cornered by the goblins that ripped off her clothes and stabbed her side. Raping the poor woman just as what goblins always do.Augustus watched all of this with horror drawn on his face. Even the vanguard fighting alongside him is beginning to get killed. The screams of his allies filled the air as the warrior instinctively took one step back –a realization finally hit him. In that moment, he abandoned every bond that he has with his allies.Augustus ran away.Augustus continued moving down a single direction. Though there isn’t any guarantee that this would lead him outside. After all, this forest is named the [Forest of the Lost] and without any proper guide, anyone would surely experience the reason why this place has been named as such – the very fate that Augustus is now suffering because of how he left all of his allies behind.Their porter is the one who navigates for the group. With him being killed by the goblins, the only thing that Augustus can rely on is his own head. Though there isn’t much of that which can be relied on as the man simply continued blindly running without any pause or rest. That is, until he came across the eyes that gleamed in the darkness. This almost paralyzed him completely. He knows that what’s staring at him from the darkness is nothing more than a goblin but, what made this nerve wrecking is the fact that it multiplied. More pairs of eyes suddenly came out, surrounding the poor warrior on all sides. And
Blistering flames covered the ground where the humans stood. What was ten-thousand strong an hour ago, has now been reduced to a mere hundred. All heavily wounded. All bleeding to their imminent death. Yet, all still moving forward – marching towards their one goal.Vanquish the Demon Lord.Numerous versions of this story has been passed down for generations. But the most famous one is the birth of the ten heroes. Within the hellfire brought by the wretched demon lord where corpses of humankind have both pilled and burned to this unbearable heat, there are ten who withstood it all. As if they’ve gone through a baptism through fire.Led by the peerless knight named Arthur, the group slew one demon general after the other. Their numbers dwindled as they progressed but, the strength of the ten knights also increased all the same. The trials continued on for what seemed to be an eternity. The wails of the dying and, the regrets of the vanishing are all carried by the heroes. Reaching the
The hero, Mordred Pendragon, fought the Great Demon Lord Dantes Inferno on his own. The demon lord respected the human that stood on par against him and, even more so because this is the first true challenger that he’s ever come across – only to be trifled and ridiculed by the ten fake heroes who finished the fight. Plunging both Mordred and Dantes into a blazing inferno that burned them In his dying breath, the demon lord casted one final spell. Forcing all of the magic veins in his body, he took out his own heart and imprinted it with the life force of the dying Mordred Pendragon. Merging them together and, in exchange for him never coming back again, the hero will resurrect after ten years…and Mordred will rain down terror and destruction upon the whole of the land.………Mordred walked away from all of the screaming and the dying that’s going on in the forest. This is his fifth day after waking up so there are still a lot of things that are new to him. A lot of questions trouble
There are twelve kingdoms ruled over by twelve monarchs. Ten of these high-status individuals are the former allies of Mordred who fought alongside him before later betraying him. Then there are two more whom the ten monarchs chose for themselves to rule over smaller kingdoms and meager populations. As for the ones that are ruled over by they who have been dubbed as “Knight Heroes”, they have things better for them. Larger kingdom. Better populations. Safer locations. They also have people who help them take care of the kingdom. All they have to do is appear to the populace and make a couple of waves while the money of their people are siphoned by these bastards. One of these ten is the knight named Gawain. The man who stands as the vanguard of the group and stayed in the frontline during the battle against the forces of the Great Demon Lord. Now that this has passed, he is the ruler of the Felsen Kingdom. The man has aged well within the ten years that passed after the war against
For a couple of seconds, Mordred felt as if his body is in a suspended state. He cannot move it and, during this period, he began taking in a couple of information that’s handed to him. Things that are shown through a system window which has the following text:[You have entered the pocket dimension.][You’ve entered a memory of the demon lord.][You can only use the weapon that’s given to you.][Current Level: 5][Level Requirement: 5][Level Suggestion: 10]At this point, Mordred is finally able to feel his body a lot better. He can feel his arms and feet and, can even move his fingers but nothing more than that. As for his surroundings, well, he seems to be in a place that’s being burned because of all the flames that he can see around. He can feel some of the heat but, not the full extent of it yet because he hasn’t fully integrated into the pocket dimension yet. That will change soon enough. It will only take a couple more minutes for all the danger and trial to begin.[Notice: T
Black blood ran down and Mordred watched as this happened. The arrow struck true – hitting the back of an adult demon that blocked the path of the projectile.“My lord! Why are you still here?” The demon asked with a wide smile on his lips.Mordred doesn’t know why but, he already knows the name of this creature. The name just popped in his head as soon as the demon made an appearance. This is Nilfith, a demon that Mordred himself has never come across in his lifetime.“Die you abominations!” A soldier said, running towards the back of the adult demon with a spear.Ten other soldiers moved towards their direction. Mordred lifted his dagger to fight back but, as soon as he did, all of these soldiers got stabbed. With black spikes that rose from the ground all of a sudden. Piercing through the bodies of these men before three more spikes appeared for each soldier, stabbing them even more and ensuring that they are truly killed.“My lord, I told you to run away with the rest of the young
Blades clashed against one another. The sound of steel going against steel is the only thing that could be heard for a couple of seconds. The afterimage of two creature battling against one another is what Mordred’s eyes beheld. A silhouette of something as dark as night and another of a creature that seemed to represent light.Everyone else stayed in the background, not moving an inch – refusing to get in the way of the battle. Not because this is their intention but because, it is the will of their leader. That of the general who calls himself Gerald Pendragon. This whole thing happened because there is no chance of escape. The route that Mordred and Nilheim have isn’t something that exists. They will die there if they try to fight on their own terms and, that is why the older demon decided on this course of action. Accepting the duel that is offered to him by Gerald Pendragon. This is a sacred oath that’s made using a binding vow. This means that it cannot be broken, nor can it be
Mordred isn’t a fan of stupidity. He doesn’t subscribe to the same stupid ideas as the rest. This is the mentality that he wishes to preserve within this resurrection of his. Always prioritize himself before others and be as selfish as possible. That is the only way he can stay alive – yet that same principle is broken at that moment. It’s almost as if his hand moved on its own. Not wanting to stare at the sorry state of Nilfheim any further, Mordred threw his dagger towards General Gerald. However, this isn’t something he did without any sort of plan. There is a plan and, it is currently taking place. Beginning with his action which, if he’s right, will lead to the results he need.“What are you doing insect? You dare get in the way of this glorious moment of mine?”The general said in a sharp tone. The aura around Gerald’s body is so strong at that point that it can suffocate anyone that gets near him. No. It can do more than that. This aura can burn anything that it touches. That i
Mordred waited patiently deep inside the forest. After the first earthquake happened, he already had an inkling feeling. That there might be something bad that’s about to happen and that, this something bad may be caused not by a “What” but by a “Who”. That’s why he sent out Blaze. The wisp, being a creature that’s made of pure mana, can travel faster than any normal monster that’s at Zeke’s disposal. In fact, Blaze can reach any part of the forest seemingly in the blink of an eye. That’s why this creature played such a vital role back when it was still serving the Great Demon Lord Dantes. Blaze served as the eyes and ears that worked for the strongest force of evil. Though unable to go to all places at once, Blaze can give orders directly and almost instantly. As soon as Dantes gives it, depending on the distance between Blaze and the target intended, the message can be delivered in as fast as a second. This is the same thing that Mordred utilized right there and then. He made Blaz
Mordred thought that it’s an earthquake that hit the forest. He isn’t the only one, every other creature in that forest that’s sentient thought of the same thing. With how the quake spread across the whole of the forest, this is the only viable explanation that can be made. That there is an earthquake, a strong one, which suddenly hit them. However, that isn’t the case at all.“Your highness!” A soldier came running towards the middle of the crater. The source of the earlier quake. This is somewhere near the entry point of the forest. A spot that’s now filled with dust that thickened around the air. There are body parts of goblins and kobolds that can be seen by the soldier that continued moving towards the center. Something that this same person didn’t pay any mind to. This is normal in the battlefield. Corpses are normal in the battlefield and those that belong to monsters are of no concern to humans. The soldier continued until he reached the silhouette of a man. A broad and large
Deep within the Forest of the Lost, there is serenity and peace. Brought about by the calm thickness of the trees that reduce the sound of anything within it but, more so, because of the lack of hunters going around killing the monsters of the forest. That’s right. Mordred has taken care of all the hunters that entered. He killed all of them with his own hands. Though having to rely on the monsters to weaken his opponents, he still claimed victory nevertheless. Gaining more levels as he finally reached [Level 16]. But more than this, he’s gotten better at using Nilfheim’s ability. Something he’s currently demonstrating as he proceeded to piercing a fish that’s swimming in the river.“Well, looks like I’m getting better at this.” He commented as he walked towards the prey that he just caught. Throwing it at his back where three goblins waited for it. Clapping for their master who continued on with his training.“It’s either that or I just randomly hit another fish instead of my target
Gawain sat at the side of the arena. In the middle of a steel bench that has his top clothes resting on it. Showing his bare body and the scars that he gained from the days of the war. His eyes looked straight at the ones still doing their training in the middle of the battle grounds. All of the soldiers that are doing their best to impress their king who does not come there to train with them often. In fact, the last time that Gawain came here was a year ago. That was just another regular day when he remembered Mordred all of a sudden. The knight haunted him in his dreams and so, after he woke up, Gawain wreaked havoc in the arena. Heavily injuring a total of one hundred soldiers before calming down. That is the same case today. There are a lot of soldiers lying around the grounds. All of which are individuals that their king took down. They didn’t even hold back against him. Gawain told the soldiers to give him everything they got and yet, he still dominated the fight. Only leaving
The Dragon Corps. That is the name of the group that Hendrickson joined. A hunting group consisting of three backline hunters and two frontline ones. They have a solid composition in that, one of the three backlines is a support that can heal them while the other two are purely damage dealer types. Archers who focus on providing cover fire while the tanks in the front save them from all possible damage. Ensuring that none of the enemies ever get past them. This strategy has worked for them for years because, even if monsters can somehow pass through the defenses or slip by it, the healer of the group is also capable of using trap magic. That’s right. Their healer sets up traps beforehand that binds any creature that’s deemed as an opponent and gets into a dangerous range close to the archers. This ensures that their formation is fool proof. In fact, this last part of their strategy can be called the most useful out of anything they have in their arsenal. When monsters get through the
“Master!”This is the word that Mordred heard as soon as he closed the windows on all of the notifications. It’s almost like this is scripted seeing how Blaze arrived there at the perfect moment. Though it may not be as perfect because, Mordred wanted to test his new skill a couple of times. The spikes that should work similar to the ones that NIlfheim used.“Ah Blaze.” Mordred replied as a smile grew on his lips. “Just the little wisp that I wanted to see.”“Master, you’re back! Thank the gods of darkness you’re back!” The wisp exclaimed. This placed a curious look on the face of Mordred. The tone of the wisp and, the way that it spoke both hinted of an immediate concern. That is just puzzling to Mordred because, the last time he checked, there should be nothing that could cause the wisp to act this way. The whole of the forest is already secured and, as far as the invading hunters goes, they’ve all been dealt with by the goblins. No new threat should exist at the moment and, should
Mordred returned to reality. After what just happened in the final seconds of the battle, he is pulled back to the real world. He’s sure of it because now, he’s facing the same place where he left off. The same trees surround him and, the same scent of the forest filled the air.No more screaming. No more dying. No more burning of flesh and wood. No more wails. No more battle cries. There is only peace. Fake and unwanted peace which Mordred Pendragon swears to break as soon as he gets stronger.[Congratulations!][You’ve finished the Instance Mission – Burning Escape][Your rewards are being generated…]“What the hell happened there?” Mordred thought to himself as he looked back on the events. The whole of it is confusing of course but, the most confusing one is what happened in the end. Where Nilfheim wiped out every human within the vicinity in the blink of an eye – reminding Mordred of feats that only demon generals or the great demon lord could accomplish.“He’s supposed to be dea
