“Why are you so nervous?” Turner asked Ryan who was pacing the floors of his home, sweat running down his back and his breathing a bit chopped.

“This is huge, Turner. This is huge!”

“But you both are on the same page, right? There’s nothing to be nervous about”

“No, the streamers shouldn’t go down that way. And why are they yellow? I don’t want anything yellow.” Ryan said to one of his staff who was hanging up the streamers, not answering Turner.

“Okay, you’re one step away from scaring them and making them run for the hills. Come have a drink.” Turner smiled as he stood up and guided Ryan out of the living room and into the dining room.

“Why is the cake still out? Shouldn’t it be cooling off in the freezer? It’s not yet time for it to be out.” Ryan commented as he spied the cake with lettering on the counter.

“Apparently, this place is off limits too.” Turner added before he dragged him up the stairs. When Ryan protested, Turner stopped at the landing and spoke to him.

“You bastard! You should know whom you deal with.” “Shoot him.”“In your next life, you will never dare to get what is bigger than you.”“Say hello to my grandfather.” The gunshot echoed and blood splattered on little Ryan, who was standing next to his father. They had been attacked by unknown assailants at night on their way home. “His son is here!”“You reap what your father sow”“Take him.”“Please don’t shoot me.” Little Ryan begged, tears rolling down his cheek. “Pull the trigger damn! He’s a chicken with little life.”“Let's spare his life. His f**lish father trying to do beyond himself is the victim and he’s gone. Spare the little one.”He was thrown out of the car, he hit his head on the stone. His world flashed and stopped. The next thing he knew was that he opened his eyes to meet two elderly women standing beside him.

“I didn’t tell that puppet I’ll be here.” “I only wondered what he’s feeling like. Like he already has you. He isn’t worth a pair of your shoes.”“He’s such a loser.”The voices echoed from a room at the club. Ryan could identify the voices, it was Jessica, his two-year-old girlfriend, and her friends, Emily and Rashy.”“You should enjoy your life, Jessica. That man definitely isn't worth you and that’s the gospel truth.”Ryan could recognize who owned that voice, that particular voice was from Emily. The cell phone in his hand vibrated. He checked and saw another message from their friend group chats“We’re in the closet room to the club room, in case anyone is coming again! It’s a blast here! Jessica is flexing and enjoying her life.”Jessica had left the phone with Ryan in the evening. He was able to trace her location from the messages sent to the phone. It was Jessica's birthday, and she had told Ryan she wasn’t celebrating it but now, the contrary is the case. Ryan had taken

“He probably wants to kill him in private,” Rashy whispered to Jessica. They stood still and were surprised at the sudden request from Turner. Ryan stood there, his heart pounding in his chest. “Come with me,” Turner instructed Ryan as he made his way out of the club room. With anxiety and curiosity, Ryan followed Turner through the crowded club. Turner wasted no time. “Where did you get that wristwatch?” he asked, his eyes locked onto the timepiece as if it held the answers to a mystery.Ryan, still reeling from the events of the night, managed to find his voice. “It was a gift,” he replied, his tone wary. “I’ve had it for a long time.”Ryan could sense that Turner was expecting more answers from him judging from the ‘continue’ look on his face. “It was a gift from my father,” he continued, his tone wary. “He gave it to me before… before he passed away. It used to be his favorite and he transferred it to me a few hours before he died.”Turner’s gaze intensified, and he reached

He quickly typed a response, demanding to know who was sending such cryptic messages, but received no reply. There was no response. Turner had just advised him to stay lowkey, and here there’s someone who seemed to know something. The night was silent as he stepped into his modest apartment. Ryan’s phone buzzed again, startling him. It was Turner's number. He answered the call, his voice slightly shaky."Ryan, I know this is overwhelming," Turner began, his voice steady and reassuring. "But you must stay vigilant. The shadows of the past have a way of resurfacing at unexpected times."Ryan listened intently, his grip tightening on the phone. He felt a strange feeling of fear and determination, like a fire burning in his belly. "Be cautious," Turner continued. "There are those who would stop at nothing to keep the secrets buried. Trust no one completely until you're certain of their intentions."A chill ran down Ryan's spine at the gravity of Turner's words. “Someone messaged me.”

"Yes, I have an appointment."The receptionist clicked on the computer in front of him to check.“I’m sorry, Mr. Ryan, but you don’t have an appointment with Mr. Wood, the General Manager,” the receptionist informed. The mention of Turner’s position made Ryan experience satisfaction, knowing he was about to be in the same position as Turner. He had hoped to see Emily, Rashy, Walter, and Jessica because they work there but he couldn’t even see their traces. “However, Mr. Ryan. The General Manager had previously informed me about your arrival and here is the list of available positions for intakes,” the receptionist said, pointing to the list.Ryan collected the list with a cheerful demeanor, but his smile vanished as he scanned through the available positions, all of which were menial jobs. His smile faded w

It was a sound he recognized but didn’t want to accept. He cautiously stepped closer, pressing his ears against the door, listening intently to confirm what he dreaded might be true.“Oh fuck,” The sounds of heavy breathing and panting filled the air, causing Ryan’s heart to race. He strained his ears, trying to identify the owner of that voice, desperately hoping he was mistaken.A tense pause hung in the air, making his anxiety intensify. “I want you to stroke yourself like you were doing the day I was watching you, except this time, I want it to be while you’re looking at me.” The macular voice echoed from the restroom. A few seconds later, the suspense hung in the air. Ryan waited, his nerves on edge, ready for whatever sound would come next.“Tell me you want me to fuck you, say it, Jessica.” Right! It was Jessica. “Look who we have here.” The security guard from the bank teased Ryan who was standing to enter the bank. Ryan had wrestled with a thunderstorm of emotions as he considered meeting Turner at the abandoned warehouse near the outskirts. Every bit of his being urged him to uncover the truth, to avenge his father’s unjust demise. Yet, there was a whisper of caution in his ear, reminding him of the danger that lurked in the shadows. He had recalled the cheque Smith had handed him, a ticket to a new beginning, far away from the cobwebs of Regal Haven Hotel. He was ready for the new life. “I’m not here for your problems today. I have a lot going on in my life already. Just let me in the bank and do whatever I want to do.” Ryan restored. It was the bank where he does their delivery when he still works at the delivery place. The security guard opened the door for him, “You’ve been fired from your workplace right? Better don’t end up begging around the street.”"We didn't order anything,

“Greetings.” One of the students who passed by the school greeted me with a bow. Ryan who had been staring at the completed and now functional school building tore his eyes away from it and responded to the student who was already several steps ahead. He looked around to realize that sometime during his gazing, the students had let out for their lunch break. From where he was standing, he could see that some were milling around in the garden and having lunch while some preferred to make use of the outdoor café. He knew and was quite aware that others would be scattered around the indoor cafeteria and different lounges at the different corners of the school. He had decided it was best the students had a wide variety of places to choose from to have lunch. Experience they say is the best teacher, from experience he knew quite well how it felt to suffer through humiliation in the cafeteria and even worse not to have anywhere else to go. This even sponsored his reasons and gladness to

“Roberts, you never told us how it went on your end.” Lewis said as he popped open another bottle of red wine, poured into his glass and brought it to his lips.“What are you talking about?”“How did the project with Jessica pan out? Was it completed successfully?” Smith asked, irritated at how slow Roberts was being.“Oh, that?” He said flippantly as he swirled the wine in his glass.“The assassin carried out the job without a hitch. He told me that he stabbed her more than 5 times and left her to bleed out in a dark alley. She was taking her last breaths when he left and there was no one in sight to help her so now, we have nothing to worry about because our tracks are clear.”Smith smiled and raised his glass, inviting the other men seated around him to a toast. They celebrated Jessica’s death. Her death meant that there was no one who could point fingers at them especially with Turner one step away from the grave.“Soon, there will be no more obstacles in my way and I will have my

“Remember that we have to remain calm no matter what he says or does.” Evans said to Ryan as they walked towards the place where they had kept Monroe all the while because he knew Ryan had the propensity to be erratic sometimes.“I know that.” Ryan nodded“Okay, good.”They got to the room and without any hesitation or stopping to think about the decision they had arrived at concerning their hostage, Ryan turned the doorknob to reveal the inside of the room. There, Monroe was, strapped to a bed; his mouth duct taped so he didn’t make a sound and alert anyone. Not like there was a single living soul that could be found for miles but still, it was better to be safe than sorry.“Hello, Monroe. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Evans asked, as he strolled into the room behind Ryan, a smile on his face.Monroe saw them and began to wrestle with his bindings eager to be out of them. He thrashed and thrashed on the bed while screaming at them or rather attempting to scream at them seeing as th

She ran like her life depended on it, weaving between parked cars and alleys because it did.She was being chased by someone she didn’t know. She had on Nike shorts and a plain black tank top with her hair in rollers looking like she was about to go to bed because that was what she had been trying to do when she heard a crash from outside her bedroom door, down the hall from the toilet. When she crept out, she saw a shadow from under the door because the light was still on and she hightailed it out of there, hoping to get a bat or something to defend herself. However, when she saw a big, burly guy coming to her with a knife, she took off outside the house, to save herself. She was still running, looking back at intervals to see where he was. Previously, she was several steps ahead with a large gap between them but the last time she looked back, she saw that he was way closer. Ryan walked into the hotel where he was meeting Smith and went straight to the receptionist who was all smiles.“Good morning.” He greeted her before letting her know that he was supposed to be meeting with Mr. Smith and wanted directions to the private meeting room Smith had asked to be met at. It was a new upscale hotel that was the rave of town. It was no surprise that Smith had chosen the hotel for them to meet because it was a neutral ground as neither of them had shares in the hotel though there were rumors that Smith planned to acquire it. After all, he liked the way it was growing rapidly. “The maître d’hôtel will be here to escort you shortly. I will just place a call to him now.” The receptionist said after confirming his identity and checking that indeed Smith had reserved the private meeting room.Ryan nodded and took a seat in the lounge as she asked. He was not seated for long before the maitre d’hôtel appeared to take him to the meeting room. He stood up and after adj

“What I need is a hot shower, a hot meal and sleep. Exactly in that order.” Ryan muttered as he dragged his tired body into his house. He plowed straight into the shower in his room and proceeded to have his bath.He had just finished the first task he was given, which was to give out 100 million dollars to a hundred beggars in 3 hours and he was extremely tired, who wouldn’t? It had been a hell of a day and he wanted his bed badly. He quickly sent a text to the chef to send his dinner up because he didn’t have the strength to trudge downstairs. He laid on his bed covers, still tying his towel. He knew that if he got under the covers, he would be asleep faster than a light went out.Suddenly, his phone rang. He stretched his hand out on the bed and picked it up, his eyes squinting to see who it was and he was excited to see that it was Rebecca calling. He sat up in his bed and leaned on the headboard, his finger about to slide up to answer it when he stopped. He remembered the mann

“What exactly are you saying to me? I don’t understand all the medical terms you just mentioned.” Jessica said as she looked at the doctor from her seat at her mother’s side. The doctor blinked at her slowly.“Let’s have this conversation outside, please.” His voice was almost a whisper as he directed her outside the room her mother was lying in and then began to explain what he had said earlier in clearer terms.“What I am telling you is that your mother has no chance of living anymore. From her prognosis, she has at best, a few days to live. I’m sorry!”Jessica was shocked and she gaped at him for a while before she got her words back.“No, no, no!”“I’m sorry.” The doctor apologized as he shook his head.“No, doctor, there has to be something that you can do. My mother can’t just die like that. You can’t just abandon my mother like that.”“I’m sorry but there’s absolutely nothing more we can do for you. Her cancer has spread and eaten into so many of her organs. It is a miracle tha
