"You have been standing there all this while. Have you nothing to say? You are standing before Saraces, one of the Demon Lords of Hell. Will you not show respect, mortal?"

At his words Michael raised an eyebrow, "Oh, so you're one of the Lords? I was wondering if this hunt was actually worth it."

"Insolent child! How dare you?!" Saraces roared and pointed his hand at Michael. A dark orb of magic formed and shot forward at him at high speeds. The young man simply closed his eyes and held out his own hand. When the magic orb was a few feet away from his palm, it suddenly disappeared as if it was never there at all.

When Michael reopened his eyes, his pupils were the color of light gray smoke. "Know your place, demon."

Saraces took a step back in shock as his face scrunched up in rage. "Impossible! You have his magic! Then that means.... Damn you William! Show your face, you bastard! Quit hiding behind a puny mortal body and face me like a man!"

Michael felt something stir within him. His soul's inhabitant had taken offense at the demon's words and offered him to switch out with him. For a moment, Michael considered doing so. After all, this was a Demon Lord and they were not exactly known to be weak.

In the end, he decided to remain in control. He would not have to go all out here. He was a Hunter first and foremost, and this demon, Lord or not, was still his prey.

"Every one, stand down," he ordered. "He's mine."

The other wolves backed away without hesitation, a testament to how much they respected him. Saraces eyed the Hunter as he stepped forward warily. He knew he was at a handicap, having not been summoned with his true body and having to use the sorcerer's weak one. But he still had his pride and it urged him to destroy the brat for his disrespect.

Raising a hand in the air, Saraces summoned a large ball of fire and sent it towards the Hunter. Michael just continued his walk, the fireball vanishing before it could reach him. The demon snarled angrily and conjured a black flaming magic circle in the air. With a frustrated shout, he sent out a stream of black flames towards Michael.

The young man's eyes narrowed dangerously as he watched the fire completely obliterate the floor on its path towards him.

'He's using Hellfire? In an enclosed area? Michael thought as he stopped his approach and watched the fire coming at him.

Up at the altar, Saraces grinned wickedly at the sight of the Hunter stopping in his tracks.

"That's right, you fool! Ever since the last time we fought, I've devoted my time to finding a perfect counter for your magic. You can't erase a spell if the power fueling it is greater than yours, can you? These flames are powered by the infinite power of souls consumed by Hell!

"You've lost and you know it! Admit defeat and maybe I'll only torture your soul for a few thousand years."

The flames were only some meters away when Michael's lips curled in a mocking smirk.

"And what makes you think I was never aware of that fact?"

"What are you talking about?"

Michael did not answer, instead he asked his hand outwards toward the oncoming wave of black flames. Saraces frowned when he saw the human's smirk and his brow furrowed even more when he felt the amount of magical energy being concentrated in the Hunter's hand. It was so absurdly high that the fabric of reality around the hand had become unstable.

'What is he planning to do?'

Just before the flames reached him, Michael let out a small laugh of derision. "Such ignorance..."

The wave surged onto him and he thrust out his hand. The black flames immediately froze in the air then with the sound of passing wind, they disappeared instantly. Everywhere turned dead silent until Saraces screamed in fury.

"WHAT WAS THAT?! HOW CAN YOU ERASE HELLFIRE?! THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE! THERE-"

A hand clutched at his throat and he felt his vocal cords cease to exist. Looking down, Saraces saw that Michael had disappeared from where he had been standing.

"I've really gotten sick of your voice," Michael whispered beside him before throwing out a kick that sent the demon crashing through the solid stone altar.

Saraces felt his body slam painfully on the ground and grit his interlocking teeth to avoid biting his tongue. Before he could get up, Michael put a foot down on his chest to pin him down. Then he he reached down and took hold of the demon's arms and proceeded to rip them off his body.

Dead gray eyes stared into inhumane black ones for several moments before Michael placed a hand on Saraces' chest.

"Return from whence you came, demon, and never walk this realm again," he prayed and sent a pulse of magic through his body, instantly erasing his heart.

"That's what you think, bastard," Saraces spoke telepathically directly to his mind as the black veins began to disappear from his face. "I'll always have my followers and eventually I will return. And when I do..."

The darkness in Byron's eyes dissipated as Michael felt the last vestiges of Saraces' presence fade away.

'I will destroy you once and for all...'

Silence descended on the hall like a heavy blanket. Michael kept his eyes on the still body before him until he decided there was nothing more to it. He turned around to catch the final moments of his team transforming back to humans. Fading wisps of smoke drifted around them, rising into the air and disappearing after a few seconds.

Jade stretched her arms in a languid manner, a sigh escaping her lips, "Ugh, I hate hunting sorcerers. Weak little rats they are, always calling the big boys when shit hits the fan."

Dean, the stoic member of the team, turned to Michael, speaking for the first time since he arrived.

"I didn't know you could erase Hellfire."

The surprise was hard to detect in his voice but it was there all the same, alongside some curiosity shared by the others. After all their leader had just did something they had no idea was possible.

"That's because I can't. Nothing can negate Hellfire. I just erased the reality around the flames so it ceased to exist." Michael clarified.

Olivia looked at him thoughtfully for a moment, "That means it went there, right?"

"Yeah," he answered her. "I'll take care of it later."

"We better leave," Lee spoke from from where he knelt beside Anton's body. "The owner of this dimension just died. The place is gonna collapse soon."

They looked around them and sure enough the walls had begun to develop large cracks in them. Through these cracks, an endless void could be seen giving of an all encompassing sense of destruction not unlike a black hole.

"Jade, get us out of here."

"You got it boss."

Beyond the edges of Starlight Bay, in the forest that surrounded the city, a house stood behind the short walls of a picket fence. The walls of the house had been painted an unassuming blue, although the moonlight gave it an unusual purple gleam. Imperceptible except to the highly trained and very observant eye, numerous runes littered nearly every hidden corner of the house and underneath every window and door. The workshop and garage attached to the sides of the building got the same treatment. Light shone through the windows of the main building, signifying that the occupants were still awake despite how late the hour was. Inside the house was as plain as the outside. Furniture, not shabby yet nowhere near exotic, made the living room less empty than it looked. Shelves lined the walls although there were no pictures on them, only the occasional flower vase here and there. The only thing that stood out was the larger than normal bookshelf that occupied the entire west wing of the ro

Five minutes later, they had all read the letter three times and were doing so again for the fourth time. Finally Lee threw his hands in the air and let out a small laugh. "They can't be serious?!" "I'm pretty sure they are," Jade replied dryly. Her eyes were still fixed on the letter, or more specifically the bottom of it where three signatures from three different parties lay. One was quite simple, a red drop of blood while another was an intricate magic circle and the last, a beautiful cross. These symbols belonged to the three biggest and most powerful factions in the supernatural world; vampires, witches and the Holy Church. The three groups were not official enemies but there had always been underlying tensions among them, resulting in something of a cold war between the factions. Of course the war was not always cold. Every now and then, loyal fanatics would pop up in a fit of madness and attack another faction in an insane attempt to 'purify the world'. Things like this en

Starlight Central Academy was the biggest institution in Starlight Bay. Situated at the northern edge of the city, the university covered so much ground that it extended into the surrounding woodlands. The reputation of the school was top notch. Being the only higher institution in the entire city ensured a good portion of the city taxes made it to its coffers. That resulted in the school becoming one of the most sophisticated academies in the entire state, despite being a bit populated. The latter was an issue solved by the school management's decision to build mega dormitories on the annexed forestland. These giant buildings were designed to house hundreds of students comfortably within rooms spacious enough for the inhabitants. There were other buildings in the school just as big as the dorms. Most of them were laboratories and workshops where practical classes were held. Lecture halls dominated an entire section of the school, their sizes fit to hold large numbers of stude

Michael swept the whole room with his eyes, slightly scaring some of the people his gaze fell upon. The frightened ones could not be faulted for their fear. It was only natural to be wary of one's mortal enemy, especially when said enemy had been looking at you like you were a piece of prime beef. He felt someone poke his side and when he turned, he met Olivia giving him a slight glare. "Stop that. You're scaring them," she chastised.Lee scoffed lightly. "They should be scared-hey! That hurt!" Olivia turned her glare on him, her finger digging deeper into his side. He held her gaze for a grand total of two seconds before caving into her unspoken demand. "Turn down the scare factor before some of these kids have a heart attack," he said to his leader. Michael did not respond until Jade gave him a look that although was nothing special, it had him withdrawing his magic. Judging from your reaction, I guess he was related to you. Was he by chance your g-" It was a well known fact that vampires were incredibly fast. They were easily among the fastest creatures in the supernatural world, possibly the fastest even. Most of the witches in that hall who had never seen a vampire run quickly had that rectified by what happened next. The vampire, incensed by Michael's words dashed down the stairs towards where the Hunters were standing in front of the lecture platform. Within seconds he had already reached Michael, his fist cocked back for what would surely be a devastating blow should it land. If anyone in the crowd had blinked, they had already mi

There was something to be said about the level of preparation the factions had undergone for the program. The integration of the supernatural students into the university was seamless. Every one had a solid biography that had been created as background for their enrollment. All of them were first years and all offered the same course: Parapsychology. The nature of the subject made it easy to pass off magic classes as actual lectures. Experienced witches and vampires would come to the school three days a week, disguised as invited professors to teach these classes as well as report back to their respective leaders on the progress of the exercise. So far there had been no complications. The vampires and the witches made sure to have as little contact with the other group as possible, and everyone avoided the Hunters collectively. Which was quite understandable considering their reputation. They made it easier by rarely leaving their dorm during the day as Michael had decided to ke

Turning back to the enraged skinwalker, he spoke in a condescending tone. "Now, I'm going to give you two choices. One: you remove all your curses and tell me what your plan here is. The attack was foiled when Lee grabbed the limb inches away from his throat and smiled wickedly. "The hard way it is then. Bad choice." Half the class had already disappeared within the first minute after the bell had rung and the other half were well on their way to join their peers. Looking around, Whitney felt a guilty pleasure in the fact that she had not been the only one who had slept throughout the entire class. Her disguised eyes spotted Mia's hunched over form still snoozing away at her desk. A fond smile, a rare thing for her to show, spread across Whitney's lips as she watched the sleeping girl. She had been mostly unconscious by the time Dean and Mia had arrived to her aid the night before but she had been filled in on what had happened after. To the surprise of everyone, herself included, Whitney had genuinely thanked the Hunters for their assistance in her rescue. Thoug

Stormy gray eyes almost silver in color and set in a blank stare, suddenly darkened with clarity of mind. Up above and around, the raging storm of magic ceased in an instant. Then it began moving again, this time with far clearer purpose. The energy nearest to Michael began to concentrate around his right hand. It swirled like a small whirlwind around his hand before gradually coagulating into a vaguely distinct shape. There was no particular form to it, but what resembled the hilt of a sword was visible when his hand tightened around it. The 'blade' was merely a dense mass of swirling magic that pulsated with so much power that it turned the land around him to dust. Sensing the imminent threat, Àtahsaia conjured as much Hellfire as it could to form a giant wave of soul-consuming flames that crashed towards Michael. The wave destroyed everything in its path at it approached the Hunter. Michael regarded it without a single care. With his mind restored, the memory of an attack

The fog of energy around him stirred to life and he surged forward at a much higher speed than he had used as a wolf beast. A wild and terrifying grin appeared on the demon's face, one that split its whole face in half, as it ran to meet the Hunter's charge head on. Just before they could clash, the demon leveled its giant bow at him and the nocked arrows on it suddenly went ablaze with black flames. Michael's eyebrows shot up into his hairline and he kicked off to the side to avoid the arrows that obliterated the area he had occupied a mere second ago in a blaze of Hellfire. His quick dodge did nothing to reduce his momentum however and he soon arrived within striking range of the demon. In a single breath, it drew its large knife and brought it down on Michael who grabbed the weapon's bladed edge with a single hand. He suffered no visible harm although the way the ground around him cratered instantly spoke volumes of the amount of force behind that strike. The destruction

Under the nonstop pressure the black sphere was emitting, the walls of the cavern were forced to give. Fortunately the cavern had been located just below the surface of the mountain, which meant that there was not much thickness to the earth on one side of the hollow formation. Within seconds, the cavern exploded outwards under the pressure. From an outside view, it looked like a mine charge had detonated from within the mountain. The quake from the explosion shook the entire mountain slightly since the whole structure itself was fairly small. Dislodged debris in the form of large rocks and landslides wrecked some parts of the forest below. In the middle of the newly formed 'cave', an inhumanly large figure pushed itself off the ground to stand on its two feet. Standing at over twenty feet, the creature towered over most land animals. The moonlight fell on its body and illuminated its bizarre appearance. Finally able to dig himself out of the rubble, Michael received the u

"Yeah no kidding!" Still he agreed with his predecessor's soul. Michael forced himself out of his shock to leap out of the way as a stream of fire engulfed the area he had been standing on seconds ago. Unfortunately dodging did not mean it had forgotten Michael. The chimera used the continuous stream of flames to chase the Hunter across half the cavern before it ceased its attempts to incinerate him. Even a weak rat would struggle to mount a resistance against the hungry cat that sought its demise, hence the phrase. But in the occasion that the opponent, the predator was so far above the prey on the food chain that any form of resistance would be futile, what then? The skinwalkers chose to fight. Bad choice. Out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted another approaching from what might have looked like his blind spot. His right hand snapped backwards and grabbed the skinwalker's head in a vice-like grip. The way both Aiden and Veronica turned to glare at him made it very clear that they had long noticed that fact and had chosen not to acknowledge it for a reason. No one knew exactly how this sort of flags worked in movies, but they were not exactly keen to find out. They were vampires. Immortal yes, but certainly not invulnerable. The walk up the mountain had been largely uneventful. Whether that was good or bad, none of them could say. While they were definitely glad for the hitch free journey, the boredom still made it annoying. Vampires were not exactly the most docile of creatures, especially at night. There was no doubt the others had engaged in some sort of battle at some point. It had been impossible to ignore the dramatic spike in energy that had resonated throughout that side of the mountain. Àtahsaia was confused. First the Hunter had been barely able to match its strength. Then he unleashed this terrifying power that nearly killed it with a single strike. After that he had become weaker for sometime. But now here he was easily being able to keep up with itself even with the boost that witch's soul had granted it. Just what was this individual planning? Dean deflected a swipe of the demon's large hand and landed three slashes on its arm, shoulder and face in quick succession. With each hit he had increased his power but it had still not been enough to pierce the demon's tough hide. Although he had felt a slight depression in its skin on that last strike. 'It shouldn't take much now.' He leapt back to avoid the raging stream of flame it spat out in return. When the breath of fire ended, he was gone. As its wounds healed, Àtahsaia forced itself to to stand once more. It was still unsure as to what had happened to cause the situation to devolve to this. The battle had been under its control, it had finally caught the Hunter in an unavoidable attack. Next thing it knew, it was sent flying away with a giant wound on its body. It had sensed the cursed energy lingering around the area of the slash. That was supposed to have been a fatal blow and it nearly had. But the Hunter had done something. He had been the one to prevent death from consuming it. It was this that confused the demon as it was fairly certain that this individual had come here with the purpose of exterminating it. Let it be known that the strength of the demon known as Àtahsaia did not lie in its not so inconsiderable power, but in its wit and intelligence. Something had caused the Hunter to pull back his attack at the last second. And as far as it knew, there was only one other third party involved in all this.
