Looked down upon

Chapter 3

Confused about where the message came from, his phone started to ring with a strange number displayed on the screen, and he quickly swiped the answer button.

"Hello, this is..."

"Am I speaking with Mr. Miles Greyson?" A deep baritone masculine voice sounded from the other end, and he raised his eyebrows in shock.

"Yes, this is Miles," It took him a few seconds before he could reply to whoever the person was.

"Congratulations, Mr. Miles Greyson. You have inherited a fortune from a distant relative of yours. Let's meet at the Ace group of company by 9am on the dot tomorrow. I will be expecting you," The voice spoke, and Miles was left stunned.

"Huh?" He blinked his eyes rapidly. How could a stranger he barely knew call him on the phone and ask them to meet? What if this was a trap? What if he ended up getting hurt? Could this be a ploy to harm him? What if it was Jessica behind the curtain and doing this? He asked himself.

"Ask for Mr. Ace Smith when you come," Those were the man's last words before the call ended, and slowly, Miles brought his phone down from his ear and checked the screen to see the number that just called him.

"Maybe he was telling the truth," He mumbled as he lay on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. The alert had his name as the beneficiary, so there was a high chance of this being true, right? Besides, that hotel was highly secure and he knew the manager to be popular although they've not met in person before.

"I'm going to see him," He concluded even though he was still feeling skeptical about this. Just this once, he tried to be positive.

He reached for his phone and opened the message again, then read through it. By now it was already obvious that this was reality. Got cheated on by his beloved girlfriend and is now blessed with a huge amount of money. Miles had only seen these crazy things happening in movies and books, but he was experiencing it himself now.

His heart filled with excitement, It was difficult for Miles to sleep, so he just kept tossing on the bed while checking the wall clock every few seconds, looking forward to daybreak...

Next morning...

Miles's blaring alarm pulled him out of his deep slumber, and unlike every other day, he didn't delay before he got off the bed and stripped out of his clothes, ready to go bath and embark on the journey to the hotel.

He dashed out of the room, shirtless, and headed to the bathroom which was shared by him and Ashley.

In haste, Miles pushed the bathroom door open at once, however, he regretted his action immediately as he was welcomed by the sexy half-naked sight of Ashley, sitting on the WC. How could she go in there and not lock the door, knowing that she was not living alone in the house?

"Oh god!" She shrieked disgustingly, covering herself up with her hands.

"You are not living here alone. Can you be more careful, Ashley? How could you use the restroom without locking the door?" Miles groaned angrily as he slammed the door closed after he walked outside.

"You should've knocked before coming inside, you pervert!" Ashley yelled from the bathroom, and he scoffed.

"I'm not a pervert. You can't keep blaming me for your carelessness," He rambled then left for his room.

"I guess I can't wash up. Well, all thanks to that annoying girl," He scoffed as he got dressed hurriedly and dashed out of the room. Even though it was barely time for the meeting, he couldn't take chances.

The drive to the company took thirty minutes before he arrived, so he drove into the compound and pulled over at the garage which was filled with many expensive cars. He took a quick glance around the surroundings before he proceeded toward the entrance door, and the cold air conditioner greeted him as he walked into the lobby.

The company was filled with many people walking along the lobby. Some looked like staff here with their ID cards hanging around their necks, some were deliverers, and some were men in suits who seemed to be business partners or just guests in the company.

He strode toward the elevator, and just when he was almost close to it, a voice spoke behind him.

"Excuse me. Who are you? How may I help you?" He stopped and turned to find a young lady standing behind him. She was slender, with flawless skin, and lengthy brown hair falling freely down her shoulders, and from the ID hanging out her neck, Miles didn't need to be told that she was the receptionist.

"Good morning. My name is Miles Greyson. I'm here to see Mr. Ace, the manager of the company," Miles tried to be as polite as he could, but he only got a glare from the young lady.

"Do you have an appointment with him?" The young lady asked after scrutinizing him with her eyes with a hint of disgust on her face.

"No, I don't," Miles slowly shook his head.

"I'm sorry, but you can't go inside without an appointment with the general manager," The young lady refused, gesturing for him to leave, but he scoffed unbelievably.

"Excuse me," He stated flatly, then ignored her and proceeded toward the elevator.

He had expected the receptionist to stop him, but he soon realized why she didn't bother to do that by the time he got to the elevator as it requested for the company's card to access it.

"Ugh! This is crazy," He mumbled as he threw his head back and shut his eyes frustratingly.

"How do I get in?" He mumbled, then glanced at the receptionist who was staring at him like he was a fool. Yeah, he just made a fool out of himself.

Still trying to think of what to do about it, the sound of heels clicking on the floor pulled his attention, so he tilted his head in the direction of the voice, and saw one of the female employees walking toward him.

"Uhm... Excuse me... I'm sorry, but can you help me get to the floor?" He pleaded with the lady who was now standing beside him in front of the elevator, but she only threw him a weird long glare all over.

"Daisy, don't let him! He's trying to get in without an appointment!" The receptionist yelled.

"No," Daisy nodded at her, refused bluntly, and his jaw dropped…

The door of the elevator opened, she rolled her eyes and walked inside.

Just before the elevator could close, Miles dashed in and just like that, the elevator closed, trapping him and Daisy inside.

"What the heck do you think you're doing?" Daisy shrieked angrily, but he only tucked his hands inside his pockets and stared into space, not bothered about whatever Daisy was saying.

One minute later, the elevator finally opened.

"Are you going to follow me around?" Daisy stopped and asked him, but Miles finally located the office, and without waiting for another second, he strode towards it and placed a knock on it.

"Are you really going to keep mute on me? For fuck's sake, I'm going to get scolded for this act of yours," She lamented, hoping he'd listen to her, but just then, the door opened and the general manager, a man in his late fifties stepped outside.

Daisy's heart sank into her stomach and she stepped away, scared she'd get the scolding of her life, or worse lose her job.

"Uhm... Sir, I tried to stop him... I really tried to, but he wouldn't listen to me," Daisy explained as though her life depended on it. Of course, she just got this job recently, and getting fired because of someone she barely knew was the last thing she wanted.

"Mr. Miles... You are here?" The manager uttered surprisingly as soon as he saw Miles…
