The grand doors parted as Selena pranced into the mansion with her handbag slung over her shoulders. She didn't even wait till she got to the landing of the stairs before she tossed her bag on the sofa.

She missed and it feels on the ground, but she decided to ignore it since one of the maids would see it later on and pick it up for her.

“Don't tell me you're just going to leave that on the floor?” A masculine voice sounded from the kitchen area, making her to halt in her tracks.

Daniel was standing in the kitchen with a glass cup filled with cold water in his hands. She blinked a few times because she couldn't believe her eyes, her father was here with her.

“What are you doing here in New York? I thought the both of you where in coming back until like next week or something.”

He said the cup down by the kitchen island and then moved forward. “We decided to make it earlier, you don't seem happy to see us.”

She turned her head around. “where is mum?”

Dinner was extremely awkward as everybody ate in silence. The clinking of plates was the only thing that made up the background noise. Having Daniel and Monica on the same table with Vanessa definitely made the air tense. Selena just lowered her head and kept her eyes fixed on the food before her. She wasn't interested in any of their dramas. Monica, havingn't had enough of the awkwardness, slightly banged her hands on the table, rattling the cutlery and drawing attention to her as they all raised their heads to face her. “Okay this is ridiculous, we're supposed to be a family. We can't be having dinner like we're prison inmates or something, what's going on here?” Vanessa frowned. “Table manners Monica, I thought I raised you better.”She rolled her eyes at her mother's cheap gimmick to divert the topic of conversation. “Mother this is not the time, what happened while I was away?”Daniel's face twisted but he didn't want to talk about it, so he just set his spoon down harshly an

A sense of guilt began to build up within her, she didn't know whether to just go ahead and tell him the truth, or just lie. “Um- we-” she swallowed, her fingers quivering. Matthew took his eyes off the road to fix them on her. “Actually we had-” “Oh shit!” Matthew cussed under his breath, stepping on the breaks with all his might. A sharp screech met their ears as the car came to a halt, thrusting them forward. The seatbelt kept them in place. “What was that? What happened?” Lola asked, craning her neck forward to see. There was a dog on the road, it seemed to be lying down and they couldn't see it. Matthew looked over his shoulders. “Lola, are you okay?” He asked with eyes full of concern. She nodded slowly. “Y-yeah I'm good, let's check on the dog.” Workout hesitation, she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car. Matthew followed suit and they both shut the door almost in synchrony, the dog was on the

The both of them got into a squabble for a couple of seconds, pulling and hitting each other until Lola managed to shove Ashley backwards. “The next time you lay your hands on me, I will make sure to break them,” Lola hissed, walking out the bathroom with powerful steps. The moment she returned to the table, Matthew raised his head and looked at her. “Why do you look angry? Did something happen there?” He asked, his eyes drifting between her and the entrance of the bathroom. It wasn't until he saw Ashley coming out that he understood what had happened. “I hope she didn't try to hurt you?” He was just about to get up when Lola gently reached out, grabbing his arm.“No, she didn't. Just ignore her, she can be a pain.”They continued to eat in silence and soon enough, the sound of approaching footsteps met their ears as Ashley got up holding the man she was with. She intentionally walked near their table, gi

Matthew was too stunned to speak, a long silence stretched out between the both of them as the right continued to move. His mind was racing and at this point the scenery didn't even matter anymore. It started to feel like it was becoming hot inside their compartment. “No?” He questioned. She tore her gaze away from his. The corner of her eyes stung and she could feel the tears already forming. There was no way she could say yes to his proposal, not after what had happened between the both of them. She wasn't sure if she was angry with the version of him that had put her in harm's way or if she was feeling guilty for lying to him. “I'm sorry I can't. Remember what you asked me in the car earlier? We were not on good terms before you lost your memory, I resigned because of how badly you treated me.”His face squeezed and he felt like he just took a punch to the gut. “What? Amelia was by the kitchen area, leaning on the kitchen island with her other hand on her chest. She heaved deep breaths. “Where did this dog come from?” she asked almost breathlessly, pointing at it. “It just came out of nowhere and scared me.” Charles came running into the scene. “My apologies. I was trying to take it out to the garden when it escaped from me.” She was still confused, raising an eyebrow. “You brought it here?” Matthew quickly stepped forward to avoid further confusion. “No, he didn’t. I was the one that brought it home.” “You want to adopt a pet? Can’t it be something else? Maybe a cat or something. They’re far more graceful,” she suggested, shuffling aside to avoid being close to the dog. Matthew quickly bent down to scoop the dog up, cradling it in his arms. “It’s a long story, grandma. Do
