Chapter 23

Lucien approached Morpheus in the library, her steps swift and purposeful. With respect in her voice, she addressed Morpheus, "My lord, may I be of assistance?"

"Is this everything we have on Rose Walker?" Morpheus asked.

"And Jed Walker," Lucien replied. "But I doubt there's anything in those books that you don't already know. Except, perhaps..." Before Lucien could finish his sentence, Morpheus abruptly interrupted him, his anger evident.

Morpheus's voice quivered with unease as he spoke, "Except, perhaps, why she managed to wander into my throne room." Anxiety tinged his words, his worry was evident. Seeking reassurance, he turned to Lucien and posed a question, "What do you think? Why did Gault target her brother and not her?"
