Someone had just come by and left food a moment ago, so who was there now? While they wondered, Van Evangeline opened the door and walked in. Seeing her, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

“Evangeline, it’s you?” Paul exclaimed.

“Yes, it’s me.” Evangeline nodded. “What, are you annoyed that I came?”

“Oh, no!” Paul quickly waved his hand. “Why would we be annoyed?”

“No...I mean…” Evangeline hesitated. “You all looked a little strange, that’s all.”

“You know we’re trapped here,” Jack said. “Who knows when some vampire might come to snap our necks and drink our blood? So, we’re constantly on edge.”

“That’s true,” Evangeline replied, adding a note of sympathy to her voice. “But as long as I’m here, no one can harm you.”

“We’ve been imprisoned here to be killed.”

“I already told you—no one can harm you as long as I’m here.” Evangeline repeated firmly, then added in a pleading tone, “Will you all do me a favor?”

“Tell us. We’ll try,” they all said in unison.

“I want to be your friend. Will you accept me as a friend?”

They got surprised to hear this from Evangeline. Luna asked, “What are you saying? How could you be our friend? You’re a vampire, and we’re human.”

“So what if I’m a vampire?” Evangeline said with a hint of reproach. “Does that mean I can’t be your friend?”

“Do you realize we came here to destroy you all?” Jack said.

“Yeah, I know.” Evangeline shook her head. “I know everything. And I also know that Uncle Collingwood is not a vampire. He is human.”

Hearing Evangeline’s words, they had once again been surprised. Everyone furrowed their brows. They looked at each other.

“When you said that Collingwood is human,” Tulip said. “Then listen to this: his name is not Collingwood. His name is Dr. Jon Harper.”

Now it was Evangeline’s turn to be surprised. Her brows furrowed as she said, “How do you know this? Do you know Uncle?”

“Yeah, we know him very well. And he knows us very well too.”

“How is that? Please explain.”

“You’ll find out later. Before that, tell me, why do you want to be friends with us even after knowing all this?”

“I want the vampire kingdom to be destroyed too.” Evangeline said in a nonchalant tone.

But those words struck their ears. What had this girl been saying? She, the vampire princess, wanted to destroy their kingdom. What could have been more surprising than this?

“Are you messing with us?” After recovering from the initial shock, Jack asked.

“I wasn’t messing with you at all.” Evangeline’s tone was the same, flat and indifferent. “I really wanted the kingdom to be destroyed. And I didn’t want to be a vampire anymore. I wanted to become human.”

Each word Evangeline spoke was met with new surprise from them.

“What were you saying? Was your head alright? Besides, you were a vampire. How were you going to become human?”

“Uncle Harper said that if a human’s kidney was implanted in my body, I’d become human.”

Jack was about to say something, but when he heard the sound of the door opening, he stopped. The door opened, and a large vampire entered.

“Princess Evangeline, you were here?” he said. “We’d been searching the whole cave for you.” He stopped and, furrowing his brows, asked, “By the way, what were you doing here?”

“No-no-no. Nothing.” Evangeline started stammering. Quickly regaining composure, she said, “Actually, I’d never seen humans before, so I came to see them. You know, they’re really nice. From now on, they’re my friends.”

“Evangeline!” The vampire was about to shout but had caught himself. He said, “Was your head alright? You knew how bad they were? They came here to destroy our kingdom. And you were calling them nice. You were friends with them?”

“I knew everything. But you also killed them. You drank their blood. So why wouldn’t they want to kill you?”

Irrefutable logic. The vampire got scared. Stumbling, he said, “Uh, I mean... if the King heard this, she scolded you a lot. She probably killed me. You should come now. The King was calling you.”

Evangeline stayed silent for a moment. Then she said, “Alright, let’s go.”

 They left.

Everyone began thinking about Evangeline. Despite being a vampire, how much compassion she had for humans! She even wanted to become human. She wanted the downfall of the vampire kingdom too. How strange!

While thinking these thoughts, they suddenly heard the sound of the door opening again. Everyone fell silent.

The door opened, and Dr. Harper entered. They told him everything Evangeline said. After listening, Dr. Harper said, “Evangeline was made from human blood. I created her.”

Everyone was quite surprised by Dr. Harper’s words. “I didn’t understand,” said Jack. “Could you explain a bit more clearly?” “Yes... yes,” everyone agreed. “Please explain everything.”

“The Vampire King was no children,” Dr. Harper began. Jack interrupted him in the middle and asked, “Did vampires even have children?”

“They did,” Dr. Harper replied. “What I had been saying was, the King had no children, so she was always upset. Then, one day, she’d declared that she needed a child, or she would kill everyone. So, I created Princess Evangeline from human blood. Since then, Evangeline has been the Vampire King’s daughter.”

“But the Vampire King didn’t know that Princess Evangeline was made from human blood. The Vampire King was very weak when it came to Princess Evangeline.”

“She loved her dearly. The King had listened to everything Evangeline said. Whatever Evangeline told her to do, she was done. You all had still been alive because of her words.”

“How was it possible to kill this Vampire King?” Jack asked as soon as Dr. Harper stopped talking.

“It was almost impossible,” Dr. Harper answered. “Even killing any vampire here was impossible.”

“But I knew,” Tulip spoke up, “that a single shot from the annihilation gun was enough to kill a vampire. And if you sprinkled holy water from an exorcism on the Vampire King, she’d die.”

“You heard correctly. But that would have worked only if their bodies still had their souls.”

“What did you mean, their bodies didn’t have souls?”

“Yes. All the vampires here had their souls hidden in a secret place. Even mine. I didn’t know where my soul was hidden either. Even if you cut these vampires into pieces, they wouldn’t die.

And even if you threw the Vampire King into holy water from an exorcism, it wouldn’t have harmed them.”
