Jack’s sleep was interrupted. He found himself in a locked room. He was lying on a bed, his hands and feet bound to the bed. He couldn’t get up. Turning to the side, he saw another bed next to him, where Sandy was lying, also bound.

“Has your sleep ended?” said Dr. Watson, entering the room.

Jack didn’t respond. Dr. Watson spoke again, “I have good news for you.”

“What good news?”

“Don’t get too excited. Be patient. You’ll see in a bit,” Dr. Watson said, then exited the room. A few moments later, he returned with two stretchers.

By then, Sandy had woken up. Dr. Watson released the bindings from Jack and Sandy’s hands, but their feet remained tied. They sat up on the bed.

When Jack turned to the side, he saw Max and Alissa lying on two other beds, deeply asleep.

“They must be your friends?” A devilish grin spread across Dr. Watson’s face.

“Yes,” Jack nodded slightly. “They’re our friends. But how did they end up here?”

“They came the same way you did.”

Jack realized that, just like him

However, no one else was able to understand James’s demeanor. Everyone frowned and stared at him. "What are you talking about?" Jack asked. In response, James said, "You all live in a developed country like America. It’s natural for you not to know about these things." Max stepped forward and said, "This is all going over our heads." He placed a hand on James’s shoulder. "Could you explain everything in detail?" "You won’t believe it when you hear it." "Just tell us first," Jack said, losing patience. "We’ll decide whether to believe it later." "Alright then, listen," James began. "There’s been a curse in this area for many years. On nights of the waxing moon, bloodthirsty monsters emerge. Anyone who crosses their path gets their blood drained by these creatures. To avoid them, every year, on the thir

Luna drove the jeep. Sofia sat next to her in the passenger seat. The rest sat in the back. Jack placed his hand on James's shoulder and asked, “What’s wrong, James? Why are you crying?” “The lottery is today,” James replied in a detached tone. “What lottery?” “Didn’t I tell you? Every year, on the third night of the waxing moon, a virgin girl has to be sacrificed. The selection is done through a lottery.” “Oh! But why are you crying over it?” “I don’t want to lose my sister.” “Nothing will happen to Sofia. There are other girls in the village. They’ll pick someone else.” “No, there aren’t many left. There were eight girls in the village. Four had already left. And today, Lily died. Now, only three girls remained, including Sofia.” “Don’t cry,” said Max. “We won’t let anything happen to Sofia.” James didn’t seem comforted by Max’s words. He kept crying. “So, when did this whole sacrifice thing begin?” Jack asked. “Thirty years ago.” “Who came up with the idea? I mean, who

"Is there absolutely no way to turn the car around?" Max asked. "No," Luna shook her head in frustration. "The road is too narrow, and there’s no other path ahead." "What about here? Can’t we turn the car around in this spot?" Jack suggested, pointing at a slightly wider stretch of the road. "Even the best driver in the world probably couldn’t turn a car around in that space. And I’m far from the best," Luna replied. "Well, we can at least try," Jack countered. "Are you crazy? One small mistake, and we’ll tumble straight down that hundred-foot drop," Luna warned, gesturing toward the deep ravine beside the road. Jack glanced at the ravine. It was deep—falling there would have meant certain death. Yet sitting idle in that spot seemed equally dangerous; the situation could have escalated into something life-threatening at any moment. He stared at the ravine for a few moments, absentmindedly licking his bottom lip, then said, "You get out of the car. I’ll give it a shot." Without a
