The battle between Xander and Darius reached a fever pitch, their movements a blur of agility and lethal intent. Just as Xander was about to counterattack, the hall's grand doors burst open, and two noble children stumbled in, their wide eyes filled with curiosity.

As they entered, the thick black smoke enveloped them, causing them to cough and cry. Reacting instantly, Xander ceased his attack and dashed towards the children. He scooped them up in his arms, shielding their faces from the smoke with his cloak.

Darius, perched on the window sill, paused and looked at the scene unfolding before him. A hint of frustration crossed his face as he realized the interruption. "Seems like you got lucky today, thanks to these kids," he called out, his voice tinged with resignation.

Xander, holding the children close, glared at Darius but said nothing. The assassin sighed and swiftly leapt out of the window, disappearing into the night.

With the immediate threat gone, Xander quickly exited the ha

Their ability to alter the political landscape is terrifyingly efficient."Xander paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. "They wer

She wouldn't be the first to learn the error of refusing me."Recalling similar past incidents, Charles nodded in agreement. "Do you recall Lady Elise? Back at the castle... Prince David, he... he confessed his feelings for me.”Xander turned to her, a mix of surprise and concern on his face. “And?”“I rejected him,” she said, a hint of uncertainty in her voice.Xander’s expression hardened slightly. “People like him don’t take no for an answer easily, Atheria. Berek gestured for Xander and Atheria to sit at a rugged wooden table cluttered with maps and documents. The resistance leader's expression was grave as he began to outline the current state of Mooncrest under Duke Marvin's rule."The situation is grim," Berek started, his voice low and steady. "Marvin has tightened his grip on the kingdom in every way imaginable. He's established checkpoints at all major routes leading into and out of the city. Merchants are heavily scrutinized, their goods often seized under the pretense of security. This has choked off many supplies that the city desperately needs."He pointed to a map of the city, dotted with various marks. "Tax collectors roam the streets, imposing new levies at Marvin's whim. The taxes are backbreaking, designed to keep the populace in a perpetual state of poverty and dependence. He's squeezing the life out of Mooncrest, coin by coin."Xander's jaw tightened as he listened, his hands clenching into fists. Atheria's eyes were col

He moved cautiously between the rows of crates, his senses on high alert.Suddenly, the eerie quiet was shattered by a low, guttural muttering. Xander froze, listening. The sound was unlike anything he had heard before – a chorus of hoarse, inhuman voices. He turned slowly, his blood sword at the ready. From the shadows of the warehouse, a group of soldiers emerged. But these were no ordinary soldiers. They were grotesquely muscular, towering over normal men, their veins bulging under their unnaturally stretched skin. Their eyes were dull and lifeless, yet filled with a hunger for violence. Atheria shouted, her voice barely audible over the howling wind. She continued to fire arrows into the storm, hoping to disrupt the yetis' movements.Xander, breathing heavily from the exertion and the effects of Erik's spell beginning to wane, scanned the edges of their makeshift battleground for any sign of the yetis. "These bastards are smarter than they look. We need to stick together, watch each other's backs."Erik, his energy drained, nodded in agreement, trying to muster what little magic he had left for another protective barrier. Several hours had passed since their conversation about Erik joining them on their journey, the landscape gradually shifting as they approached a vast, frozen lake. "This looks like a good spot," Erik announced, gesturing towards a clearing near the frozen lake. "We should rest here for the night. The lake will provide us with fresh water, and we can use the open space to our advantage should we need to defend ourselves." Plus, it's not exactly a field trip."Laylan, who had joined them to provide final instructions, nodded in agreement. "Erik has a point. It's wise to assess the situation first.
