Game of schemes

Carl's boat gently brushed against the sandy shore of a small island situated in the midst of the vast ocean. Stepping off the boat, Carl secured it in place to ensure it wouldn't drift away.

Advancing forward, he spotted a solitary coconut tree swaying in the island's breeze, and beneath it stood a figure cloaked in black robes. As he approached, Carl addressed his contact, keeping his face hidden with the hood.

"Did I make you wait long?" Carl inquired as the figure turned around.

The figure turned to face him, yet the obscured features due to the dark hood and mask provided no glimpses of identity.

"Do you have the coins I requested?" inquired the figure with a tone of business.

"Yes," Carl replied, his affirmative gesture accompanied by the weighty sound of a pouch of gold coins landing in the figure's hand.

"Your services certainly don't come at a bargain," Carl added with a wry smile.

"Indeed. Betraying the Mage Guild and leaking information doesn't come cheap," the figure resp
