Chapter 06~

David sat in his study, the dim lamp casted long shadows across the room. His phone buzzed on the desk, interrupting his thoughts. Picking it up, he saw Andrew's name on the screen.

“Andrew,” David said, answering the call.

“Good evening, sir,” Andrew's voice came through, and there was a hint of urgency in his voice. “I wanted to confirm that the partnership with the Daniels family has been officially terminated as per your instructions.”

David leaned back in his chair, a bitter smile playing on his lips. “Good. And their reaction?”

Andrew hesitated for a moment. “Let’s just say they weren’t happy. Mr. Daniels was furious, and Mrs. Daniels seemed shocked. They kept demanding an explanation, but none was given to them.”

David chuckled dryly. “Let them wonder. They’ll figure it out soon enough.”

Andrew paused before speaking again. “If there’s anything else you need me to handle, just let me know.”

“I’ll keep you posted, Andrew. Good work,” David said before ending the call.

However, Sarah paced back and forth in the living room frustratedly, her heels clicked against the polished floor. Her parents sat on the couch, their faces stained with a mix of confusion and frustration.

“How could this happen?” Sarah demanded, loud enough for everyone to hear. “Everything was fine yesterday! Why would they suddenly cancel the deal?”

Mr. Daniels shook his head, angrily clenching his fists. “This is outrageous. We’ve been working with Naxora Dynamics for years. This is a major loss for us.”

Mrs. Daniels sighed, rubbing her temples. “Are you sure we don't have an enemy? Someone who's been eyeing your progress so far?”

"There's got to be a possibility, who knows?" Mr Daniels added. "You know, the world is turning into something else day by day."

"Hmm." Sarah hummed, trying to figure out who her enemy was. But no matter how she tried, her brain couldn't figure it out.

"Would it be David's doing?" Mrs Daniels suggested.

Both Mr Daniels and Sarah shifted their gaze at her. "Mother. Why would you even think like that?" She scoffed. "David is a helpless human now, and do you think with his dirty appearance that a huge company like that would let him in?"

Mrs Daniels shrugged her shoulders. "I'm only suggesting what my mind could come up with. Well, on second thought, you're right. He looks too local to be recognised."

"There's got to be a reason for the cancellation. Maybe because Ethan is helping us." Mr Daniels said.

"But what does partnering with Ethan have to do with Naxora?" She barked. "Is it now a crime to partner with two big companies? Or was it stamped that I should remain with them forever?"

"Something has to be done." Mrs Daniels said. "We can't let this slide just like that. We must visit the Naxora Dynamics and confront them, what do you think?"

Mr Daniels agreed. "Sarah and I will pay it a visit tomorrow and see what the outcome will be. I hope we'll get answers to our questions."

Mr and Mrs Daniels were troubled but not compared to Sarah. She reflected two weeks ago when she had just celebrated the new growth of her company, and just two weeks later it was falling off.

She sighed countless times before heading for her room. "Don't you think we should let Ethan know about this?" Asked her father.

"Ethan has done more than enough, dad. The least I want to do is trouble him the most. For now, let it be between the three of us." With that, she left for her room.

"We need to call Ethan." Mrs Daniels said.

"You can't. You just heard what Sarah said, this should be between the three of us. You know what her reaction would be when she learns that Ethan is aware." Her husband warned.

"She won't do anything. The least she can do is vex, not to kill me." She picked her phone from beside her, dialing Ethan's number.

"Hello, son." She called.

"Hey, mom." He answered. "How are you?"

"Well, all is not well, my son." She looked at her husband as if expecting any reaction from him.

"What's wrong, mother. Talk to me, what's the problem?" She urged.

"It's Sarah." She answered.

"What happened to her?" He asked desperately. "Is she alright?"

"Not really. We received an email from Naxora Dynamics just this morning, they have cancelled our business partnership with them. They didn't give reasons or warning, it just came unaware."

"How is Sarah now?"

"Well, she's locked herself in her room. She asked us not to tell you, but I decided to involve you sooner."

"You did the right thing, mother. I'll be on my way home now."

"Alright. We'll be expecting you."

"What did he say?" Asked Mr Daniels.

"He's on his way." She answered. "We can't let Sarah handle this alone, she needs every support she can get. This company must survive."

Ethan walked in with urgency. Just then, Sarah was heading down for a glass of water. She was shocked to see Ethan and the urgency in his face, and she didn't need anyone to tell her who had notified him.

Her mother.

"Mother, what did you do?" She questioned. "I thought we agreed no one should know outside the three of us?"

"I had no choice, sweetheart." She answered. "You need as much help as you can get."

Sarah sighed heavily.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Ethan queried.

"I don't want to pressure you, Ethan. You've done more than enough for me, involving you into this will only burden you." She explained.

"I never complained, did I?" She shook her head. "So, have any suggestions been made so far?" He asked.

"Dad and I already agreed to visit Naxora Dynamics tomorrow morning."

"That's a good idea." He nodded. "Whatever the outcome is, do let me know. There's got to be a reason why they cancelled the partnership."

"But what could it be?" She asked worriedly.

"That's what we're about to find out tomorrow." Said her father.

Later that evening, David wandered through the silence of his mansion. The house felt empty, almost lifeless. He stopped in front of a door and pushed it open. The room was filled with toys, books and little decorations he believed they'd love.He had designed it against the future, when he would have revealed his true identity and moved over to his home with his family. Sadly, his in-laws fucked up in the way he least expected. David stepped inside, running his fingers over a small desk by the window. He picked up a drawing she had made—a picture of their family, back when things were happy. His heart clenched. “I’m sorry,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “I should have fought harder for you.” He moved to his son’s room next, where a small collection of model cars sat neatly on a shelf. David picked up one of the cars, remembering how excited his son had been when he bought it for him. “This isn’t over,

He wasn’t surprised by the comment; it was the same every time he sat at this table, almost like a daily routine. “Mom, I’m managing,” Sarah said, almost like she was whispering to herself. Her eyes shifted toward David, but there was no emotion in them. “Managing?” Mr. Daniels barked a bitter laugh. “You call this management? Your company is barely holding up because you have to handle everything yourself. And why? Because your husband is to
