3: Descent into the Unknown: Refuge in the Night

I prepare to drive the car that was still levitating in the air, my mind at this moment was full of questions that had no easy answers to find. How had he acquired these powers? What kind of language was that I used so that the car immediately began to magically levitate in the air?

And most importantly, where the hell was my mother in the middle of this chaos when my sister and I needed her most?

I tried to focus my thoughts on other things that were also much more important to think about, and I decide to focus on my first goal of the day; find a safe place to spend the night together with Sasha.

While I was driving, I looked at Sasha in the rearview mirror, she continued with her gaze focused straight ahead, obeying my previously given order, that made me feel calm because, at least, I knew that Sasha hasn't gotten scared yet because she hasn't looked towards me back. Although in reality, we did not know exactly what was happening on the ground at this moment because the car had risen further into the sky, and we were almost walking above the clouds.

Meanwhile, the robotic voice continues talking in my head, since its countdown was barely reaching 20%, and that was causing me a great mystery because I didn't know what was happening to my body at that moment.

“Levithat activated. Stable flight mode. Calculated safe route. Maintain current direction to avoid affected areas,” said the voice in my head, giving me a sense of control over the situation.

Sasha, despite the uncertainty and curiosity she felt, remained faithful to her promise and decided to continue looking forward with confidence. Night fell upon us, and from this distance, by occasionally looking out my window, I could witness the lights that flickered in the city, the chaos that took over the houses and buildings, in some parts, I could notice that the terrain was becoming much more sustainable and stable than it had been before.

Finally, just outside the city, we found a safe area where we could take shelter. This was a small house, located in the middle of the road, a little far from the edge of the road, and it was perfect because there seemed to be no one in it, obviously, I had to go in to supervise that everything was in order and that this was the optimal place for us to spend the night there, and perhaps, if possible, make it our home while this whole disaster was brought under control.

I look Sasha straight in the eyes through the rearview mirror.

“Little sister, I think this place can help us take refuge in it. Maybe, and we could even make it our temporary home while we figure out what's going on, and find our mother, and wait for all this shit to blow over, okay? "You can look down now."

“Descend,” said the voice in my head.

I understood perfectly what he was referring to, and I decided to listen to him, I pronounced the word: Descend, and immediately, the car began to descend from the sky very carefully and delicately so that the landing would not be forced or heavy for Sasha and me to bear it.

The little house that was our final destination loomed before our eyes, while the car continued to descend slowly until it touched the ground and I could continue driving it normally. It seemed that in this area, the earthquake had not shaken the earth, everything was completely normal.

Everything inside the little house seemed to remain in complete darkness because there was no light on inside. The little house seemed to belong to peasants, since around it there were a lot of fields with food crops, and even livestock sheltered in their respective farm, separated to one side of the little house.

The little house was one story, and it was small, but it was small enough for a family of two to three members to live in it. I looked at Sasha, and she was amazed by the little house, for her a wonderful attraction, since I can remember, we have always been used to living in an apartment, not too big or too small, but at least in it, we didn't have to share a room, my mother had her own room, Sasha too, and of course, I also had my own room.

I parked the car near the entrance to the little house, turned it off, took the keys from him and put them in my pocket. Sasha and I got out of the car, agreeing with our eyes to walk cautiously, because we weren't sure we knew what might be waiting for both of us inside. The voice in my head continued its countdown again, now, it had reached 70%. And meanwhile, Sasha and I walked towards the door and, realizing that it was not locked, I decided to open it slowly, avoiding wanting to make the slightest noise so as not to raise suspicions from anything or anyone.

The interior of the house was modest, simple, and at the same time, cozy. There was furniture that was obviously worn out, that had been there for a long time, but that was in very good condition anyway. The little house seemed to have been abandoned, as if its owners had made the decision to evacuate before all this disastrous emergency emanating from the city had occurred.

But even though it seemed like there was no one inside the little house, I still decided that the best thing we could do was explore to make sure that everything was in order and that the little house was going to be able to be used by us temporarily.

“Looks like today is our lucky day, little sister. “We are going to spend the night here and tomorrow we will see what we can do to find mom and find out what is happening in the city,” I told my sister as we sat in the living room of the house at the moment when our journey of knowledge had ended.

Sasha nodded seriously, a small spark of concern reflected in her eyes, but also determination. We were both aware of how tough the situation was getting. Sasha approached me, allowing my arm to go around her shoulders and for her to hug me.

“We'll be fine, Sasha. I promise,” I whispered to my sister, speaking almost very close to her ear so she could hear me good.
