Chapter 7: Rayden's Decision

At seven in the morning, the sun cast a golden glow on the sandy beach as Rayden and Ricky landed from the boat. The salty breeze tousled their hair as they carried with them a bountiful catch of fish, their hard work paying off.

Rayden's mother and younger brother stood waiting on the shore, their eyes lighting up with joy at the sight of the freshly caught fish. Mrs. Rebecca's voice filled with gratitude as she embraced Rayden. "Rayden, Ricky, thank you both. This is a wonderful gift."

Rayden beamed with pride, a sense of accomplishment washing over him. "Mom, these fish are for you and our family. Ricky and I worked hard to catch them, hoping to bring some happiness and delicious meals to our table."

Ricky nodded, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "Absolutely, Mrs. Rebecca. We wanted to contribute something special for you all."

Mrs. Rebecca's eyes sparkled with appreciation as she looked at her son and his friend. "You both have hearts of gold. Let's cook these fish and enjoy a delightful meal together."

As they cooked the fish over an open fire, the tantalizing aroma filled the air, making their stomachs growl with anticipation. The family gathered around, their laughter and conversation blending harmoniously with the sound of waves crashing on the shore.

After a satisfying meal, Ricky bid his farewell, heading home with a contented smile. Rayden remained on the beach, his heart filled with gratitude for the kindness shown by his friend.

Approaching Rayden, Ricky patted him on the back, his words simple but heartfelt. "Thank you, Rayden, for sharing the catch with us. It was a pleasure to contribute to your family."

Rayden turned to Ricky, a sincere smile spreading across his face. "No need to thank me, Ricky. Your friendship and support mean the world to me. I'm grateful to have you by my side."

As the sun began to rise, casting a warm glow over the beach, Rayden and Ricky found themselves deep in discussion. They had already made plans during their earlier conversation in Laot, deciding to seek guidance from Ramon on how to apply to the agency. Their determination to pursue their dreams burned brightly in their eyes.

Later that day, as Rayden and his mother sat together, he mustered the courage to confess his decision. "Mom, I've made up my mind. I want to work in Singapore. I want to explore new opportunities and provide a better future for both of us."

Mrs. Rebecca looked at her son, a mix of emotions crossing her face. She understood his ambitions and the sacrifices he was willing to make. With a heavy heart, she nodded and reached out to hold his hand. "Rayden, I know how much this means to you. I support your decision, even though it saddens me to think of being apart from you."

Rayden squeezed his mother's hand, his voice filled with determination. "Thank you, Mom. I promise that once I'm there and start earning money, I will do everything I can to support you. You won't have to sell fish anymore. We'll have a better life."

Mrs. Rebecca's eyes filled with tears of both sadness and pride. She knew that Rayden's determination was fueled by love and a desire to provide for their family. "Rayden, your love and dedication touch my heart. I believe in you, and I know you will succeed. Just promise me that you'll take care of yourself and stay true to who you are."

Rayden nodded, his voice filled with conviction. "I promise, Mom. I'll work hard, but I won't let the distance change who I am. You'll always be in my heart, no matter where life takes me."

Around ten in the morning, Rayden and Ricky made their way to Ramón's house, their anticipation palpable in the air. They knew that Ramón held the key to unlocking the path to their dreams. As they arrived, Ramón welcomed them with a warm smile, inviting them into his humble abode.

Seated at Ramón's wooden table, Rayden and Ricky listened intently as he revealed the requirements to be accepted at the agency. Ramón explained that a valid passport, a clean criminal record, and a medical clearance were necessary to apply. He also added that the agency would cover the expenses for their journey to Singapore, lightening the burden on their shoulders.

"The job in Singapore is as a factory worker," Ramón continued, his voice filled with sincerity. "While it may not seem glamorous, it provides a stable income and opportunities for growth. The Singaporean employers are known for their fair treatment and respect for workers' rights."

Rayden's eyes widened with amazement, his heart pounding in his chest. The benefits Ramón outlined seemed almost too good to be true. Ricky shared the same sentiment, his excitement bubbling over. They couldn't believe that their dreams were within reach, that their hard work and determination were finally paying off.

"Thank you, Ramón," Rayden said, his voice filled with gratitude. "You have no idea how much this means to us. We are so grateful for your guidance and support."

Ricky nodded enthusiastically, his eyes shining with appreciation. "Yes, Ramón, thank you so much. You've shown us a path to a better future, and we won't let you down."

Ramón smiled warmly, his eyes reflecting pride in their determination. "You both deserve this opportunity. Just remember to work hard and stay focused. Singapore will open doors for you, and I have no doubt that you will make the most of it."

As Rayden and Ricky walked side by side, the weight of Rayden's decision to leave weighed heavily on his heart. Longing and sadness washed over him like crashing waves, threatening to consume his spirit. Sensing his friend's emotions, Ricky gently patted Rayden's shoulder, offering a comforting presence.

"Rayden," Ricky spoke softly, his voice filled with empathy. "I know it's difficult to leave your mother and everything you're familiar with. But remember, you'll get used to it once you're in Singapore. It's a new chapter in our lives, and we have to embrace it with courage and hope."

Rayden turned to Ricky, his eyes moist with unshed tears. "I know, Ricky. But it's hard to imagine being so far away from my mother, from everything I know. What if I get lonely or homesick?"

Ricky offered a reassuring smile, his voice gentle yet resolute. "You won't be alone, Rayden. We'll be there for each other, just like we've always been. And technology allows us to stay connected. You can call your mother once in a while, hear her voice, and share your experiences. Trust me, it'll make the distance feel a little smaller."

Rayden's heart warmed at Ricky's words, finding solace in the promise of staying connected. He knew that his friend understood the depth of his emotions and was willing to support him every step of the way.

"And Rayden," Ricky continued, his voice filled with sincerity, "I promise you this: I will take care of your mother while you're away. She won't have to worry about selling fish or struggling. I'll be there for her, just like you would be."

Rayden's gratitude swelled within him, tears of appreciation glimmering in his eyes. He felt blessed to have a friend like Ricky, someone who not only understood his dreams but also offered unwavering support and love.

With a deep breath, Rayden nodded, his voice filled with determination and gratitude. "Thank you, Ricky. Your words give me strength and comfort. Let's face this new journey together, knowing that we have each other's backs. Our dreams are within reach, and with the support of loved ones like you, I know we can succeed."

As Rayden and Ricky continued their walk, lost in their thoughts and the weight of their impending journey, Rayden's eyes caught sight of a familiar car parked in the convenience store's parking area. His heart skipped a beat as he recognized the vehicle, a mix of surprise and curiosity washing over him.

“Wait a minute—“ Rayden halted for a moment.
