Kyle wasn’t sure how to feel about being back in the city of Arceum. There were more people who could recognise him now, thanks to Jeffrey and his stupid underlings. But on the other hand, inside the city, attacking was prohibited. As in, if anyone tried to attack someone else, they’d immediately be struck down by a bolt of lightning.

When Luke first mentioned it, Kyle had some trouble believing it, but Caille claimed to have seen it happen before. So, he just shrugged, and decided to accept it.

“So, where to first?” Luke asked, glancing at Igna. The guild leader smirked. “First, we sell all of these bones and teeth and everything else the drake dropped!” She led them throughout the streets, to the small shop she’d brought Kyle before.

They sold everything, pocketed their money, then hurried over to the auction house. It was almost dusk, and the auction would begin soon.

“So,” Caille turned to look at

Kyle’s eyes shot wide open. “What?” He whispered as he looked around to try and see where the voice had come from.“Eleven!” Igna’s voice rose. Immediately, she had clenched her fists, and was glaring around, trying to find the owner of that voice as well.“Twenty!” The voice rose again. Igna’s eyes shot wide open as she shot Kyle and the others a quick glance. “I…” She muttered, clearly debating whether it was worth giving so much money for a single piece of armour.Kyle shook his head. “Don’t,” He whispered. “Make him waste his money.”She nodded, though her face was pale.“And it is sold to this gentleman over at the VIP section to twenty thousand gold coins!” The Auctioneer announced. “The next item is this dagger…”“Igna,” Caille hissed. “Try to buy the dagger for some low amount.”

“No.” The Prince stated, folding his arms. “I will not forge you any old piece of armour.”Kyle rolled his eyes. There it was – that dwarven pride.“But you yourself said you don’t have the heart of the forge!” He protested, despite knowing it was in vain. “You realise what sort of a dilemma this is, right?”The dwarven prince raised his chin. “Get me the heart, and I will craft you the most powerful piece of armour you’ve ever seen!” He declared.Kyle pressed his palm against his forehead. “… Where do I find it?” He finally asked, giving up on trying to convince the goat-headed dwarven prince.“Up north from the village, there are the vermillion mountains – an undead best resides in a pathway between two mountains. Beyond the path it guards, you will find old ruins of dwarven make. Within them rests the heart of the forge.” The Dwarven prince p

Igna’s guildmembers proved to be more than happy to slay the undead drake a couple more times. As soon as Kyle dropped by their fortress to ask for that favour, they happily prepared to set out to help him.“So,” Caille looked at the Irena, who was silently watching the guildmembers systematically surround and attack the undead drake. “You’ve recovered fully then?”The Priestess of the Golden Flame nodded firmly. “Indeed. My apologies for not being able to stand my ground against that demon.” She added with distaste. She clenched her fists, probably remembering how quickly she’d perished, before even getting a chance to try and fight against the Demon of the Nightbloom.“None of us were able to.” Caille said with a shrug. “We didn’t really expect to come across someone quite as powerful.”Kyle nodded. “I’m surprised how quickly you recovered after I touched the Evertre

The eerie silence sent a shiver down Kyle’s spine as they opened the door fully and peaked inside. He pulled his scarf over his mouth and nose and watched as the others also did something similar with pieces of cloth.“Either there is a pile of dead bodies in there,” Luke whined, “Or there are a bunch of necromancers filling this place with necrotic energy.” He unsheathed his new, mithril blade, and took a deep breath. “Either way, let’s go.”Igna also unsheathed her blade, she then raised her hand, and whispered softly. “Flame, cleanse us.”A small ball of fire appeared in her palm, it then floated up into the air. “It’ll cleanse the necrotic energy around us. It’s not very strong, and my mana won’t last for more than fifteen minutes, so let’s hurry.” She explained.“Light,” Kyle said as he raised his hand as well. An orb of light appeared in his hand, bri

It was impossible to know where the sound had originated from in the first place. Thankfully, the sound did repeat itself every few seconds.“I don’t like this.” Kyle whispered as they followed the sound, slowly making their way towards it. The labyrinth like hallways were more than a little difficult to navigate, and Kyle couldn’t help but remember Droigheann’s illusion trick.“What is that noise anyways?” Luke asked as it grew louder. They were very near it – in fact, they had almost reached it. Or at least that’s what it sounded like.“It sounds like something metallic is hitting the floor.” Igna muttered. Kyle scowled, he crouched and pressed his palm against the floor. Sure enough, with every repeat of the same sound, he could feel the vibrations run through the ground.“Yeah.” He whispered quietly. “I don’t like this.” He added after a short moment of hesit

The Giant raised his bushy eyebrows. “You were looking for this place? Pray tell, whatever would a little human like you need from these old ruins?”Kyle took a deep breath in an attempt to calm his racing heart. “The Heart of the Forge.” He stated. “I was told it was here. I didn’t think there would be anyone here, working the forge. I thought this place was abandoned.”The Giant slowly nodded. “Indeed, it is.” He straightened his back, and then leaned forward, inspecting whatever it he had been working on. “I am the only one here.”His voice was mellow. A deep sadness permeated it. How long had he been here, alone?“Why are you still here?” Kyle asked, unable to curb his curiosity. “Why not leave? Go somewhere with people?”The Giant turned his head to look at him. “I dream of the day I can set foot outside this forge, human, but I fear it will remain just that

The veil shattered almost immediately. Kyle exhaled as pain struck his body momentarily. He stumbled backwards as the Necronomicon drained him of his strength.A pair of armoured hands caught him by his shoulders. “It’s done, close it!” Droigheann hissed into his ears, springing the young summoner back into action. He bit his lips and closed the Necronomicon. As soon as the book closed, he felt his draining strength return. Well, some of it.“How did you get-““Hush!” Droigheann hissed, silencing the clearly confused Giant. “I must leave now, I will explain to you later.” He said as soon as Kyle put the Necronomicon away. The Demon vanished into the young man’s shadow, letting Kyle breathe properly again. As soon as he was gone, the drain on his vitality had also disappeared. He took a deep breath, then forced a smile. “How about we get the hell out of here before the necromancer notice

“Indeed,” Erdan-Sol’s voice boomed as he carried Kyle, walking towards the plateau with surprising speed. “We do have much to talk about, old friend.”Droigheann leaned his back against the giant’s fingers, and smirked. “How did you end up in there anyways? How could a puny necromancer get the better of you?” He asked with an amused tone. The Giant let out a sigh. His entire body shook with that sigh. Kyle gulped, sitting in the giant’s palm, he could only hope Droigheann wouldn’t annoy him too much. He didn’t want to get killed like this, not by being squished in a giant’s palm.“If only she was just a puny necromancer…” The giant shook his head. “She was powerful, old friend. Powerful, and clearly experienced in her ways. I always thought she was the one in possession of the Necronomicon.” Erdan-Sol’s gaze turned to Kyle. “Now that I k

The serene white light changed as soon as they stepped into the garden. It grew brighter, lighting up even the darkest corners of the garden. “Finally.” Azazel whispered. He calmly stepped towards the bright white light. “It’s been so long.” He and the rest of the group arrived before the tree. The Fallen Angel reached for the tree, only for his fingers to touch a barrier surrounding it. The yellow-brown barrier rippled as soon as the Fallen Angel’s fingertips touched it. Azazel flinched, and pulled his hand back as a look of disgust appeared on his face. With furrowed brows and blazing eyes, he turned around, and shouted at the top of his lungs. “Show yourself, Demon!” Droigheann flinched. “He’s here?!” The Demon of the Nightbloom asked wide eyed as he unsheathed his blade, and put his helmet on without hesitation. Luke stepped forward, making sure to stand in front of Caille and Kyle. Igna tightened her grip on the hilt of her blade, while Cacophus’s bony fingers rummaged through

The fully armoured knight dropped his sword and tried to grab the slimy goo with both of his hands. The goo only latched onto his helmet further as he struggled. The man started to stumble a few moments later.Kyle couldn’t help but laugh a little, though his near brush against death kept him from enjoying Jeffrey’s suffering. The knight soon managed to grab onto the goo properly, and threw it away, only to be met with Kyle’s light magic.“Bolt of Light!” The young man shouted, then as the Knight raised his hand to cover his eyes from the bright golden light, he dashed towards him, blade in hand. He hadn’t used a sword properly in ages, not since he’d gotten his Summoner class, and started summoning powerful people such as Aoris, or Irena. But Aoris and Irena were busy protecting the cathedral, and Droigheann had his hands full with the remaining group of enemies. And he had a particular hatred against Jeffrey and his constant stupidity. “Oh for fuck’s sake.” Kyle rolled his eyes as the enemy charged at him and his allies. Jeffrey’s ridiculous accusations and ignorant behaviour was the last thing he needed at the moment.Droigheann unsheathed his blade and struck the ground with it. Black veins spread across the grey marble plaza, originating from his blade. They leapt off the ground, reaching for Jeffrey and his allies.“Fire storm!” A voice boomed. Kyle flinched as a whirling storm of flames burnt away the roots and veins. Droigheann gritted his teeth and removed his swords from the ground. “Damn mages,” The Demon grunted as he stepped forward. His helmet materialised in his hand, and he promptly put it on.“SHALL I DISPATCH OF THEM, KYLE?” Cacophus’ sudden question surprised him. “Yeah, please help Droigheann.” Kyle hissed as he pointed at the group. “We shouldn’t waste much time on them.”As he spoke, several shards of crystallised light formed at his fingertips. He fired them at the man leading the charge.“AS YO

Kyle took the first step down the grey marble staircase. As his feet touched the ancient slabs, he involuntarily flinched.Azazel and Droigheann followed just a step behind, along with Cacophus, who chose to float next to them.“AMAZING, IT HAS BEEN PRESERVED PERFECTLY!” The Lich exclaimed, pausing just a few steps in, and carefully inspecting the waist high walls preventing them from falling off the side. “LOOK AT THIS CRAFTMANSHIP!”Kyle shot a glance at the waist hight wall. It was covered in intricate carvings from top to bottom. Just a few meters of this wall must have taken weeks to create, if not more. “Yeah, it’s amazing.”“Just like the legends.” Droigheann carefully ran his finger along the carvings. “A city of ancient wonders, housing powers beyond imagination, made from the most beautiful materials by the best craftsmen ever to grace the face of this world.”“Seems about right.” Azazel pointed at the buildings. “Any one of these would have taken months to perfect, if not y

The Necronomicon’s pages turned on their own. Kyle waited patiently for the book to settle on a page. Once it did, he read through the spell. It was a modified dispel spell.“Stand back, just in case.” He said to the others. Everyone took a few steps back, even Cacophus who had just arrived. The Lich didn’t speak, but the green glows in his eye sockets glimmered and lit up brightly with excitement.Kyle’s lips curled up with a faint smile for a moment before he turned his gaze back to the Necronomicon. “Open thine gates, lift thine veil.” He recited the spell’s words clearly. “Allow me passage to what is rightfully mine, as I hold the Book of Ancient Secrets!”A moment passed before the spell fully took effect. The barrier around the Ancient City of Necron began to lower as Kyle felt his vitality drain with alarming speed. He looked down at the back of his hand with a panic as the few locks of dark hair dangling before his eyes slowly began to turn white. The mark of the Evertree glow

  • Chapter 272: The Records Restored

The elderly woman took the two pieces of the hourglass in her hand. A faint, almost mellow smile appeared on her lips as she closed her fingers around the pieces of the hourglass. “I am in your debt, Azazel, young man.” She whispered as she clenched her fingers further. The muffled sound of something cracking sounded. Then, a fine dust flowed from between her fingers. The cool breeze caught the dust, carrying it away from the patio. The elderly woman smiled. “No, come back.” Her voice was calm, almost as if she was speaking to an old friend. “I’m right here.” The wind whirled, suddenly changed its direction, and blew the dust right back at her. She closed her eyes and smiled. Kyle braced himself for… something. “It’s alright now.” Her motherly voice reached his ears. “It feels good to be whole again.” She turned her gaze towards the sky. “It is a beautiful day, isn’t it?” Kyle disagreed. Dark clouds covered the sky. “It is good to have you back, Record Keeper.” Azazel bowed his

It was a misty morning and getting out of bed felt like a huge chore. He still dragged himself out of bed, albeit slowly, and staggered towards the hot spring. He paused in front of the mirror for a second. The bite marks on his neck were awfully visible. Vis had definitely taken some of her frustrations out of him last night. He let out a sigh and went to take a bath. She was rightfully upset, and he didn’t care about how he looked too much. He bathed, then got dressed and opened the door of his room, only to see Droigheann standing there, leaning against the wall.“I didn’t realise you’d come out.” Kyle said as he fixed his cloak and hair before the mirror.“You were asleep.” Droigheann explained with a faint smile. “You found the second half of the hourglass.” He stated with a hint of curiosity in his voice. Kyle nodded. “We did. We almost died for it too.” He shuddered. “I’m never going back to the Celestial Plane.”Droigheann laughed out loud. “That is indeed a good idea.” The De

There was a mild pain too.Footsteps approached as Kyle tilted his head to look at Vis. “Did something happen while we were gone?” He asked with a crusty voice. He licked his dry lips. He could use some water right now.“Your arm got charred!” Vis hissed wide eyed. He drank it without hesitation. The water passing through his

His back couldn’t take many more falls. “Why?” He asked as he sat upright and rubbed his sides.Azazel flew up and closed the cathedral’s door. “Because of the distortions.
