Eggs. These were eggs. Thousands of them, if not more, of all sizes.
Kyle felt his stomach churn. What… what if they hatched when he went near them?
He shuddered. No, no they wouldn’t. Spider eggs didn’t wait for some outside influence to hatch, and even if they did, it would give him ample time to dispatch of the newly hatched creatures. The real issue was something else.
If this was a Brooding Chamber, where was the queen? The Damhan-Nectidh should have been there. Why would she leave her eggs, her children unprotected? It made no sense.
Unless this wasn’t the only brooding chamber.
Kyle gulped. He wasn’t sure which was more terrifying; the Damhan-Nectidh being here, or there being a second brooding chamber.
He decided on the first. He’d rather not come across the gigantic spider.
“Please don’t be here.” He whispered as he stepped through the doorway, into the chamber.
He
Kyle approached the pedestal wide eyed. The book was closed, and locked with lock and chain, but it’s immense power was still more than enough to grant these spiders such abilities. As the young man approached the book, he suddenly felt sick, and weak. He gritted his teeth and powered through his sudden exhaustion and unwellness. He reached for the book but paused a split second before he touched it.“Oh, come on!” He whispered as a lump settled in his chest. A thin, almost invisible strand of spiderweb was wrapped around the book. The moment he touched it, the Damhan-Nectidh was going to know where he was, and what he was doing. He gritted his teeth. He had no choice – he was either going to take that chance or die here eventually as neither he nor Droigheann had no way to remove the veil guarding this place. He unsheathed his sword, and carefully cut the strand of cobweb. He breathed a sigh of relief – it wasn’t the s
The footsteps only grew nearer as he got rid of most of the sticky webs on his clothes. Kyle’s heart raced as he finally got back up on his feet, ready to cast a spell at whoever it was that arrived.“Droigheann?!” He exclaimed as soon as the silhouette stepped out from the narrow hallway on the other side of the door. The Demon paused, then looked at Kyle before immediately turning his gaze to the hole in the wall on the other side of the brooding chamber, where the Damhan-Nectidh had climbed out of.“We have little time,” The Demon stated, then paused and looked at Kyle again. To the Necronomicon he was pressing against his chest, specifically. “Oh, so that was it.” He muttered quietly before grabbing Kyle’s arm and pulling him towards the door.Kyle didn’t even try to resist. As weird as it was to feel relief upon seeing the damned demon, he was truly glad that it was Droigheann who stepped out of the dark
Before he could even react, a green beam of necrotic energy burst out of the Necronomicon. It rose into the sky, then split into a thousand strands and formed a dome around him and Droigheann.“What?” Kyle muttered, confused.“Look out!” Droigheann’s shout sounded, the Demon of the Nightbloom drew his sword as six black things hit the dome protecting them.Kyle suddenly felt lightheaded as the Damhan-Nectidh bounced off of the Necron’s Dome and landed on the ancient building. Her eyes focused on the dome, a fire of hatred burning within them. Her front appendages moved back and forth as her belly lit up with a green glow.“Do not leave this dome!” Droigheann hissed as he put on his helmet and dashed towards the Damhan-Nectidh, passing through the Necron’s Dome effortlessly.Kyle gritted his teeth. He could feel the spell slowly draining his mana away. Slowly, but not slow enough. And he felt so
Kyle staggered towards his bedroom and closed the door behind him. Immediately he walked to the back of the room, exited through the small door hidden behind a curtain, to a private area of the hot springs he had the dwarves make specifically for him.He took off his clothes and soaked himself in the hot water. The steam rising from the large body of water filled the air. He breathed in the steamy air, trying to get the smell of death and decay out of his mind.Whatever pieces of cobweb were left on him slowly melted away in the hot water. A while later, Kyle submerged his head in the water, and ran his fingers through his hair a few times. He felt some pieces of cobweb get stuck on his hair, but that wasn’t all.“What the hell?” He muttered as soon as he lifted his head out of the water. His brown hair fell before his eyes blocking his view completely. When had his hair grown so much?!He quickly threw his now shoulder length hair back
Kyle crouched behind the fallen log. He could see Aoris standing behind a large tree perhaps ten meters ahead of him as well.He gulped, and waited, ready to cast his spells.Soon, footsteps sounded, and a young elven woman entered his view. She ran past the tree Aoris was hiding behind, hopped over the log Kyle was crouched behind, and disappeared in the forest. Soon, more footsteps sounded, accompanied by the sound of metal hitting metal as the humans’ plate armour made it difficult to move fast at all.Kyle licked his lips in anticipation. The group of humans soon entered his view. They all wore metal armour and carried fancy weapons. Immediately, Kyle recognised that armour. It was the same that Jeffrey used. These people were from his guild – he was sure of it.He whispered softly as they approached the tree Aoris was hiding behind.“Shards of Light.” He then hid his hand behind the log and watched as Aoris stepped out
The elven leader took much convincing, and the other elves even more. They protested at first, because they liked it here. The forest was gigantic, thick, and filled with life. The lake was the most beautiful blue it could be, and this was the home of these unicorns. It wouldn’t do to move up to the barren plateau, they cried. Where would their trees be?But their lives were on the line, and they were not stupid – they knew the plateau was the safest place to be. Kyle promised to help them with the move, as well as help them grow their ideal forest by the river. It took a while, but eventually, they accepted.“You did good to bring them to the plateau,” The Fallen Knight commented as they rode back to the cathedral. “They are strong warriors, and I am sure they will be of much help if we ever were to be directly attacked.”Kyle scowled. “That’s not why I wanted them to move to the plateau.” He dismissed her w
When Igna said it was an easy fight, Kyle didn’t really believe her. He thought it was just her showing off, boasting about how powerful her guild is. But no, seeing the group of thirty or so people just annihilate the undead drake, he almost felt bad for the thing. Almost. The beast was once a majestic creature, surely. But now, not much was left of its glorious wings, or majestic horns. Now, it was just an animated pile of bones, with a green breath attack and some necrotic spells.“So,” He shot Caille a quick glance. “How many times will we kill it?”The Eldritch Witch shrugged. “Till enough of us get bored.” She smirked.Kyle couldn’t help but chuckle. The pile of bones once against started to glow with a green power – the colour of necrotic energy that Kyle had become very accustomed to in the last couple of days. He pushed the memories of the Damhan-Nectidh and her lair aside and focused on the u
Kyle wasn’t sure how to feel about being back in the city of Arceum. There were more people who could recognise him now, thanks to Jeffrey and his stupid underlings. But on the other hand, inside the city, attacking was prohibited. As in, if anyone tried to attack someone else, they’d immediately be struck down by a bolt of lightning. When Luke first mentioned it, Kyle had some trouble believing it, but Caille claimed to have seen it happen before. So, he just shrugged, and decided to accept it.“So, where to first?” Luke asked, glancing at Igna. The guild leader smirked. “First, we sell all of these bones and teeth and everything else the drake dropped!” She led them throughout the streets, to the small shop she’d brought Kyle before. They sold everything, pocketed their money, then hurried over to the auction house. It was almost dusk, and the auction would begin soon.“So,” Caille turned to look at
