“They sure work fast.” Droigheann whispered, leaning towards Kyle. The young summoner nodded. He had to agree, they’d been gone for less than a day, and already there was a new building upon the plateau.

“This will not do!” The giant declared as soon as they entered the building, only to see a wide stairway leading down underground. “I can no fit through here!” He protested, clearly alarmed by the mere thought of not being able to enter the forge.

“Don’t worry,” One of the dwarves tried to calm the giant down. Since he had less of an accent, it was much easier to understand him.  “We’ll change the entrance.”

Kyle let out a sigh. “So?” He asked, looking at the Demon of the Nightbloom. “What do you think?”

Droigheann let out a sigh. “Well, he’s sure to be a powerful asset.” He smirked. “But that’s not what you asked, is it?&

Whatever warmth the dwarves’ words lit up in Kyle’s heart was immediately snuffed out by the Demon’s cold gaze.Kyle was about to get a change of clothes when the Demon of the Nightbloom appeared out of his shadow. Kyle immediately pulled his shirt back down as the Demon smirked.“What?!” He hissed, annoyed.Droigheann’s smirk vanished. “I think I know how to protect you from the Necronomicon’s drain.” His cold, calculating voice gave Kyle surprising confidence in the Demon’s abilities. He didn’t think the Demon of the Nightbloom was lying, nor did he believe he would take too big of a chance when it came to Kyle’s life.“How?” he asked as he fixed his clothes and sat down on the couch. The Demon didn’t sit, instead, he folded his arms and glared at Kyle. “There is an artefact that once belonged to the God of Light. It was used to protect the Temple from the demo

  • The Lich's Master   Chapter 188: A Short Distraction

The road leading to the Temple of Light was often trodden. What used to be a dirt path snaking along the rocks and cliffs, then passing through the small forests around the grasslands had now become a stone paved road.Merchants travelled through here now, and as Kyle rode along the road, he came across many people, players and otherwise. Oddly enough though, there were no elves or dwarves, or any other species aside from humans. He couldn’t help but scowl. Why? The Elves didn’t have just a single grove – the group that had moved to the plateau along with Kyle were just one of the many groups of elves in this part of the world. And the same could be said for the dwarves. Sure, the group that left Prince Thornir and his new home in the Cloudrest Mountains to live with Kyle on his plateau was a large one, but it was hardly the only group of dwarves in this part of the world.“Odd,” He muttered mostly to himself. Mostly, because he was well

“So,” Droigheann turned to face Kyle as the last of the men died, leaving the road empty save for the summoner and the demon. “Care to tell me why they’re so fixated on you?”Kyle chuckled but his smile faded as he noticed the look on the Demon’s face. There was no wicked, or amused smile there, nor was the demon having fun. The dead serious look in his eyes, and his pale lips pressed together caused Kyle concern.“I killed their leader a few times.” He tried to explain. “He just kept falling into the pitfall traps I’d put up to repel undead and such.”Droigheann’s expression didn’t change. He continued glaring at Kyle.“I’m telling the truth!” He pressed in a hurry. Did Droigheann not believe him? “He decided I must be killed, that I’m a-“ He stopped himself. ‘I’m a boss’ wasn’t the best way to explain this to Droi

As soon as the Demon finished his words, the crystal shattered. Kyle was quick to reach out and snatch the chain that was contained within, before it fell to the ground.Immediately, he felt the cold rush of power run through the chain, to his fingers, then up his arms. He shuddered, and clenched his fist before he dropped the chain.“Are you sure this is broken?”He hissed through his clenched teeth. “This seems very much functioning.” He shivered. It felt as if someone had doused him in ice cold water.Droigheann scowled. His brows furrowed, and he narrowed his eyes as the chain let out a soft, white glow. “Are you certain?” He asked with a wary voice. “That should not be possible. It’s not, I saw it break – shatter, with my own eyes.” His words seemed to be directed more towards himself, so Kyle didn’t respond. It was so, so cold. He gritted his teeth as the power of the chain washed

Blinded and caught unprepared, Kyle felt his back hit the wall behind him. The taste of blood filled his mouth as pain jolted throughout his body. He then fell to the ground as the explosion subsided. His heart was racing as he tried to regain his sight.“Droigheann?!” His voice was but a whisper. A drop of blood rolled down his chin as he spat on the ground.“What happened? The Necronomicon, is it damaged?!” He shouted with a cracked voice. Had all of their effort been in vain? Were all those close brushes with death he’d gone through all in vain? His vision slowly began to return. At first everything was a blur. The colour mixed together, and he could barely make out the difference between the floor and the wall. He noticed something moving, approaching him.“What-““Calm down.” Droigheann’s voice was low, he was almost whispering. “Blood?” The Demon asked. “What happened?

The book resting on his lap was radiating with power. It was immensely powerful. It drowned out all his senses, forcing Kyle to focus on the book, and the book alone. He drew a deep breath before gently reaching for the top cover of the book. He touched it, grasped it, and slowly opened it. The neatly written first page filled his view, and he started reading, unable to resist his curiosity anymore. As the birds chirped and the sunlight entered through his windows, Kyle pried his gaze off of the book. He was exhausted, and wanted to do nothing more than sleep. He closed the Necronomicon, and as it vanished, he felt content. Almost as if the Necronomicon was content with the amount of time he dedicated to it today.Kyle smiled yawned, crawled into bed and under the sheets. There was nothing he needed to do today. It was time to sleep.“Summoner!” A knock on his door made his sleepy smile shatter. “The Dwarves are asking if y

The next morning, Kyle woke up to someone pounding on his door. “Summoner!” A Dwarf’s voice echoed across the still empty halls. “Are you awake?!”Kyle let out a tired sigh as he crawled out of bed, and opened the door. “I am now.” He grumbled. “What happened?”The dwarf looked at him with sparkling eyes. His face was red with exhaustion, and also excitement. “The forge is lit!” He declared with a victorious tone. “The Giant Erdan-Sol has begun forging, and so have most of my people!”Kyle’s eyes shot wide open. Whatever sleepiness was left in him vanished, he was wide awake now. “So soon?” He asked as the gears started turning in his head. If the forge was lit and the Giant could smith already, then it was time to let Prince Thornir of the dwarves know about the situation. He was sure to be furious, but if he wanted to use the legendary forge, then he’d need to come

“This is unacceptable!” Prince Thornir shouted at the top of his lungs. His booming voice nearly deafened Kyle as it echoed through the halls, repeating itself over and over again. “I will not be tricked like this! Bring me the Heart of the Forge, or I will get it myself!”Aoris stepped forward, between Kyle and the Dwarven Prince, her hand still resting on the hilt of her claymore. She said nothing, and made no other movement, but her sheer presence was more than enough to cause Thornir to step back a moment.“How dare you try and steal what belongs to me?!” He shouted, spitting as he spoke. His face had twisted with anger, and he was shaking in his boots, his fists clenched with such force that his knuckles had gone white.“It clearly doesn’t belong to you.” Kyle calmly replied, trying to hide his own unease. If the dwarves decided to attack him now, Aoris would probably be able to hold them back, and if it got a

He calmly stepped towards the bright white light. “It’s been so long.” He and the rest of the group arrived before the tree. The Fallen Angel reached for the tree, only for his fingers to touch a barrier surrounding it. The yellow-brown barrier rippled as soon as the Fallen Angel’s fingertips touched it. Azazel flinched, and pulled his hand back as a look of disgust appeared on his face. With furrowed brows and blazing eyes, he turned around, and shouted at the top of his lungs. “Show yourself, Demon!” Droigheann flinched. “He’s here?!” The Demon of the Nightbloom asked wide eyed as he unsheathed his blade, and put his helmet on without hesitation. Luke stepped forward, making sure to stand in front of Caille and Kyle. Igna tightened her grip on the hilt of her blade, while Cacophus’s bony fingers rummaged through

The knight soon managed to grab onto the goo properly, and threw it away, only to be met with Kyle’s light magic.“Bolt of Light!” The young man shouted, then as the Knight raised his hand to cover his eyes from the bright golden light, he dashed towards him, blade in hand. He hadn’t used a sword properly in ages, not since he’d gotten his Summoner class, and started summoning powerful people such as Aoris, or Irena. But Aoris and Irena were busy protecting the cathedral, and Droigheann had his hands full with the remaining group of enemies. And he had a particular hatred against Jeffrey and his constant stupidity. Black veins spread across the grey marble plaza, originating from his blade. They leapt off the ground, reaching for Jeffrey and his allies.“Fire storm!” A voice boomed. Kyle flinched as a whirling storm of flames burnt away the roots and veins. Droigheann gritted his teeth and removed his swords from the ground. “Damn mages,” The Demon grunted as he stepped forward. His helmet materialised in his hand, and he promptly put it on.“SHALL I DISPATCH OF THEM, KYLE?” Cacophus’ sudden question surprised him. “Yeah, please help Droigheann.” Kyle hissed as he pointed at the group. “We shouldn’t waste much time on them.”As he spoke, several shards of crystallised light formed at his fingertips. It was covered in intricate carvings from top to bottom. Just a few meters of this wall must have taken weeks to create, if not more. “Yeah, it’s amazing.”“Just like the legends.” Droigheann carefully ran his finger along the carvings. “A city of ancient wonders, housing powers beyond imagination, made from the most beautiful materials by the best craftsmen ever to grace the face of this world.”“Seems about right.” Azazel pointed at the buildings. “Any one of these would have taken months to perfect, if not y

The Necronomicon’s pages turned on their own. Kyle waited patiently for the book to settle on a page. Once it did, he read through the spell. It was a modified dispel spell.“Stand back, just in case.” He said to the others. Everyone took a few steps back, even Cacophus who had just arrived. The Lich didn’t speak, but the green glows in his eye sockets glimmered and lit up brightly with excitement.Kyle’s lips curled up with a faint smile for a moment before he turned his gaze back to the Necronomicon. “Open thine gates, lift thine veil.” He recited the spell’s words clearly. “Allow me passage to what is rightfully mine, as I hold the Book of Ancient Secrets!”A moment passed before the spell fully took effect. The barrier around the Ancient City of Necron began to lower as Kyle felt his vitality drain with alarming speed. He looked down at the back of his hand with a panic as the few locks of dark hair dangling before his eyes slowly began to turn white. The mark of the Evertree glow

The elderly woman took the two pieces of the hourglass in her hand. A faint, almost mellow smile appeared on her lips as she closed her fingers around the pieces of the hourglass. “I am in your debt, Azazel, young man.” She whispered as she clenched her fingers further. The muffled sound of something cracking sounded. Then, a fine dust flowed from between her fingers. The cool breeze caught the dust, carrying it away from the patio. The elderly woman smiled. “No, come back.” Her voice was calm, almost as if she was speaking to an old friend. “I’m right here.” The wind whirled, suddenly changed its direction, and blew the dust right back at her. She closed her eyes and smiled. Kyle braced himself for… something. “It’s alright now.” Her motherly voice reached his ears. “It feels good to be whole again.” She turned her gaze towards the sky. “It is a beautiful day, isn’t it?” Kyle disagreed. Dark clouds covered the sky. “It is good to have you back, Record Keeper.” Azazel bowed his

It was a misty morning and getting out of bed felt like a huge chore. He still dragged himself out of bed, albeit slowly, and staggered towards the hot spring. He paused in front of the mirror for a second. The bite marks on his neck were awfully visible. Vis had definitely taken some of her frustrations out of him last night. He let out a sigh and went to take a bath. She was rightfully upset, and he didn’t care about how he looked too much. He bathed, then got dressed and opened the door of his room, only to see Droigheann standing there, leaning against the wall.“I didn’t realise you’d come out.” Kyle said as he fixed his cloak and hair before the mirror.“You were asleep.” Droigheann explained with a faint smile. “You found the second half of the hourglass.” He stated with a hint of curiosity in his voice. Kyle nodded. “We did. We almost died for it too.” He shuddered. “I’m never going back to the Celestial Plane.”Droigheann laughed out loud. “That is indeed a good idea.” The De

A cold hand pressed against his forehead as he slowly began to notice the numbness around his right arm. There was a mild pain too.Footsteps approached as Kyle tilted his head to look at Vis. “Did something happen while we were gone?” He asked with a crusty voice. He licked his dry lips. He could use some water right now.“Your arm got charred!” Vis hissed wide eyed. Was she angry? “And the Fallen Angel’s wings started bleeding!”“Indeed,” Rhealis approached them with a glass of water in her hand. She helped Kyle sit upright, then gave him the glass. He drank it without hesitation. The water passing through his

His back couldn’t take many more falls. “Why?” He asked as he sat upright and rubbed his sides.Azazel flew up and closed the cathedral’s door. “Because of the distortions.
