He woke up to the sound of his own scream. Panting, and drenched in sweat, he quickly reached for his face, and pressed his palms against his head.
“I’m ok,” He whispered, unable to take his mind off of the visual of his own severed head, falling into nothingness. “I’m ok…” He took deep breaths to try and calm his racing heart. His chest hurt, he couldn’t calm down.
Those dead eyes, filled with the fear he must have felt at the moment of his death.
A severed head. Blood, dripping from its neck.
His head. His neck. His blood!
Distant thunder startled him. He flinched and hugged his own knees. Suddenly, he felt unsafe in this room. It was so large, so empty save for the bed and a couch. There was so much space here – so much space for the four winged angel to fit.
Was that what was going to happen? Was Azazel going to cut his head off?
He shuddered and
The process of brewing potions was a slow and meticulous one. He needed to be aware of exactly how much mana he needed to pour into the brew, and when. The heat of the boiling cauldron needed to be precise. He needed to stir a certain amount – not more, not less.“So,” He wiped his forehead as he finished the process. “Do you think you can do it?”Irena, the Priestess of the Golden Flame nodded without hesitation. “I believe I can, Summoner.” She said with confidence. “You need not worry – I have experience with brewing potions.”“That’s good to hear.” Kyle said with a faint smile.Irena had surprised him by randomly barging in and asking to observe the process. He hadn’t expected her to be interesting in alchemy at all, nor did he think she would want to sit here brewing potions all day.He took a piece of blank paper and wrote down the potion recipe as it was note
After being thoroughly scolded by both Caille and Luke, Kyle finally managed to calm them down, and changed the subject.“Wait, you did what?!” Caille exclaimed as she looked at the bottle of crimson liquid. “Healing potions? Really?” She whispered wide eyed.Kyle nodded. Irena had brewed two more batches of potions while he was gone, and now that they had arrived, she had been very thoughtful, and left them alone, giving them some privacy to speak as they wished.“That’s insane.” Luke muttered. “Are you sure they work?”Kyle hesitated. “I mean… I haven’t tried it yet.”“Let’s try it then!” Caille exclaimed. “Luke!” Her excited, sharp voice startled the paladin. “Whack me with that sword once!” She said, tightly gripping the potion bottle.Luke let out a sigh. “You’re at full health, right?” He asked to m
“Oh!” Caille suddenly piped up. They had been sitting at a bench in the garden, enjoying the refreshing scent the wind carried towards them. “I’m not sure if you’re aware, but Jeffrey’s clan made peace with Igna the other day.”Kyle’s eyes shot wide open. “What?” He breathed out in disbelief. The man hated Igna with a passion, why would he accept to make peace now? That would mean he couldn’t attack her fortress, or the people in her clan. “How come?”Luke shrugged. “Honestly, we’re as surprised as you are.” He scratched his head. “Maybe there are some real life matters that will eat up his time?” He suggested.Caille pursed her lips. “Perhaps.” She fiddled with her long, green braid. “There is really no way to know. Whatever the reason is, we’ll be using this time well.”“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” Ky
“You’re no fun!” Vis cried out. “You were supposed to panic.”Kyle rolled his eyes. “Yeah, sorry. Not going to happen.” He motioned to get out of bed, but Vis was quick to stop him. She caught his shoulder. “You really shouldn’t be so stiff, you know.” She suggested. “All you’re doing is make life more difficult for yourself.”Kyle let out a sigh. “Well, apologies, but I find it extremely difficult to relax when there’s an ancient vampire right in front of me.” He grumbled, glaring at Vis.“You’re breaking my heart.” She dramatically pressed her hand on her chest, right on her heart. “You still don’t feel comfortable even though I decided to lift my mark from you?”Kyle pushed her hand away from his shoulder and tried to get up again. “You see me as food. I’m not going to be feeling comfortable any time soon-&ldqu
Ripples spread throughout the barrier, originating where the large rock hit. Irena grunted, she was trying to keep the barrier supplied with as much power as she could.“It won’t hold.” Vis softly muttered. Her crimson eyes glimmered as she watched more rocks fly towards the barrier. “It’s not enough.”“I’m aware!” Irena hissed. “Why don’t you help me instead of just watching?!”Vis’ shoulders dropped. She folded her arms and looked away. “I am no mage – there is nothing I can do.”While Kyle did not believe a word she said, he wasn’t about to waste time arguing with the ancient vampire. He needed to act now if he wanted to protect the plateau in its entirety. He took deep breath, and reached up with one hand, while the Necronomicon materialised in his left hand. The pages of the ancient book turned on their own as a
The golden flames burst out of the gold coloured vein closest to Kyle’s hand. He felt a sting on the back of his hand before it went numb completely for a few seconds. A golden marking appeared on his skin, glowing golden just like the embers within the Evertree.‘Independent Action: Link Activated’Immediately, he felt his draining life force restored. The green dome that had formed around the entire plateau began to gain a golden hue as the Evertree’s power filled him, replacing his lost life force with its own.His eyes hurt as the tree shaped mark on the back of his hand glowed.“Well…” Vis pursed her lips. “I guess this is an acceptable solution.”“Shut up.” Kyle grunted as he covered his eyes. Everything was so bright – the golden hue of the Evertree seemed to cover the plateau in its entirety.“You’re mean.” Vis commented with a
“We need to deal with the siege somehow.” Kyle stated the obvious. Irena, Droigheann, Vis, and a couple dozen elves and dwarves had gathered in the grand hall of the Cathedral. Their gazes were focused on the young summoner. They listened to his words intently, and everyone except his two summons and Vis nodded when he was done speaking.“Does anyone have the ability to reach that far with spells?” Kyle asked with little hope. A few seconds of silence passed, then the elves and dwarves shook their heads. Kyle’s shoulders dropped, though he expected this response already.“I see. Then, those of you who can, should check the damage that’s been dealt before I was able to raise the barrier.” He gestured out the window, towards the green barrier with a golden hue. “Make sure there are no wounded, the rest of us will figure out a way to deal with this siege.”Once Kyle had finished his words, the crowds scatt
Kyle pressed his lips together. That… sounded like a horrible scenario. Being stuck under the spell’s protective dome for who knows how long certainly wasn’t a welcome thought.“I’d rather not have to resort to that.” Kyle admitted. “Besides, what if they find a way to get past the barrier? Necron did fall after all – perhaps there was a weakness in their spells.”Droigheann scoffed. “If those puny humans can do that, then I’m no demon.”Irena nodded vigorously. “I doubt anyone within that group would have the knowledge or skills to do such a thing.”Vis remained silent. Her gaze was fixed on the barrier, the dome covering the entirety of the plateau, all the branches of the evertree. It lit up every once in a while as the siege continued, and so did the attacks. Kyle let out a sigh. “Still, we have much to do, and being stuck here isn’t going to help. Besides
