Matthew’s suite, Sterling Mansion.

Elaine, still drained from the night before, abandoned her attempt to call Liz. Every muscle in her body ached, but the desperation to get away from Matthew was stronger. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed, only to feel a searing pain shoot through her body the moment her feet touched the floor. Her legs gave out beneath her, and she collapsed onto the plush carpet with a sharp cry.

“OUCH!”

Her voice cut through the stillness of the room, but Matthew didn’t stir. He remained deep in his dream, a contented smile on his lips — dreaming of Patricia.

Tears welled up in Elaine’s eyes as she lay crumpled on the floor, the cold truth settling over her like a heavy weight.

“It was just to get the presidency...” she whispered bitterly, her voice trembling. “I kind of knew that, but I thought Matt would get over the bitch... No... He wants me as his wife in the eyes of the public... but in his heart, it’s Patty Borges. It always was.”

So what did you want to tell me, Mr. Cardoso?”Germano took a deep breath. “I made peace with Cindy yesterday and told her that you’ll be a good husband.”Jackson’s eyes widened in disbelief. Was this really happening?“Are you serious, Mr. Cardoso?”“Yes. I... thought it over. My wife helped me see reason too. Your accident made us realize that life is short, and we need to stick together.”Jackson studied him carefully before nodding. “I understand.”Germano exhaled, his voice tightening with emotion. “I also came to the conclusion that there are worse things... and worse people out there. So, I won’t interfere with your relationship anymore. After all...” H

He turned to her, still smiling.“Good morning, darling. What are you doing there?” he asked.Elaine glared at him, trembling with barely contained rage. Sergeant Carvalho got a letter from the Bento family saying the kidnappers are history.”Edmund shuddered involuntarily. A chill crept down his spine.
