Chapter 768 Matthew Doesn’t Get

Matthew woke up slowly, stretching his arms like an innocent child, free from drama or worries. A dreamy smile lingered on his lips — the kind of smile that comes from a night filled with thoughts of Patricia.

As he extended his hands, his left hand brushed against something—or rather, someone. A miserable-looking Elaine was clinging to the edge of the mattress, struggling to climb back into bed as if she were scaling Mount Everest with nothing but her bare hands.

Only then did Matthew remember that he still had a wife. He turned to her, still smiling.

“Good morning, darling. What are you doing there?” he asked.

Elaine glared at him, trembling with barely contained rage. But it was precisely that rage that gave her the strength to finally hoist herself onto the mattress. She collapsed onto the bed in exhaustion and relief.

Matthew took in the sight of her: swollen eyes from crying, disheveled hair, bits of carpet clinging to her arms, and a nightgown that was torn in multiple places.

Quickly, he ducked behind a column, straining to catch their words.Mr. Vieira here again? Bryce thought to himself. They must be good friends...Karl leaned in slightly. “So, Ed, how are things?”Edmund tilted his head. “I’m the one who should be asking. How are you holding up after the kidnapping?”Karl smirked playfully. “Case closed. Sergeant Carvalho got a letter from the Bento family saying the kidnappers are history.”Edmund shuddered involuntarily. A chill crept down his spine. Lowering his voice, he muttered, “You went to the ‘boys’ in the Bento family—”“Shh!” Karl interrupted sharply. “Remember, no one knows yet—”Before he could finish, his eyes caught sight of Bryce strolling into the hall with a

When?”“Oh, it’s been a while... right, Mr. Vieira?” Bryce said, looking directly at Karl.Karl’s expression darkened. “You’d better listen to your father, young man. There’s nothing extraordinary about our friendship.” He turned to Edmund and, in a lower tone, added, “I need to go.”A notification buzzed on Karl’s phone. As he checked the message, Bryce took a few steps back, retreating from the scene.“I’m really sorry, Karl,” Edmund sighed. “Maybe it’s a sign that you need to tell the truth.”Karl’s gaze r

Your son is getting a little too close and cheeky with our Diva!”To Ernesto, this was no laughing matter. He approached just in time to hear Patricia’s firm voice.“What’s going on here, Ron?” she questioned, eyes flickering between him and Gustavo.Ronaldo shrugged nonchalantly. “Nothing much, darling. I just feel like we’re too lenient with the employees.”Gustavo scoffed. “Hey, don’t say ‘employees.’ You’re dealing with me.”Ronaldo’s expression darkened. “You’re the one who allows yourself too many liberties, especially with my fiancée.”Gustavo stomped his foot like an annoyed child. “Urgh! He leaned in and sniffed the aroma of fresh beans with garlic, salt, and strips of bacon. “Hmm... this is going to be delicious.” “Try it to see if it’s salty enough,” Andreia instructed him. Vicente wasn’t quite sure how to do that. He took the ladle out of the pot and waited for a few drops of the bean broth to drip onto his left palm. What a strange and direct question! He chuckled nervously, though he felt uncomfortable. “Wow, heh, he... why is everyone thinking I’m going to team up with Elaine?” “Because everyone who knows you well knows you had a crush on her,” Karl replied coldly. “It was... somewhat obsessive.” “That was in the past. Elaine never paid attention to me and accused me several times of being a crazy pervert. In the end, with all the scandal, I didn’t want to be unjustly arrested, so I left her alone.” “But now... did you watch the press conference?” Karl raised his eyebrows. Kirk was about to say something else when Karl approached them. “Hello.” Nayla wasn’t in the mood to be friendly. “Mr. Vieira, do you agree with the injustice that happened here?” “Elaine Prates behaved horribly at Vanda Borges’s book signing just because she rivals our writer’s daughter,” Karl replied pragmatically. “If that’s not grounds for dismissal, then Elaine would be allowed to do something worse.
