Chapter 58: Caring

Kai hobbled out of the car he was driving. He held his jaw, which was sore and throbbing. Fresh blood dripped from his forehead, and there were several open wounds on his face and arms.

His clothes looked very dirty and worn out from the fight with Terry earlier. Kai almost fell down when his foot accidentally stepped on a rock in front of him. Fortunately, there was someone holding his body.

"Sir, are you alright?" asked the man in a worried tone.

Kai turned his head toward the source of the voice. As it turned out, it was one of his employees, who he remembered often getting the best worker badge in his department. Kai could see the look of worry and fear on the man's face.

Kai didn't want to show the pain he was feeling. He didn't want to be labeled weak by others. So, he smiled slightly in response, showing that he was pretending to be fine.

"I'm fine," Kai said in a calm tone, hiding the crying as well as the blood that was still dripping from the open wound.

However, that didn't seem to apply to the four people currently talking inside Terry and Ben's secret base. Because in here, the atmosphere was hot.The words Barbara had just uttered were like a bolt of lightning striking in bright daylight. Terry stopped sobbing with his eyes wide open, as well as his mouth. He seemed to have forgotten how to breathe in shock. The same was true for Ben.Both men looked shocked by another fact they had just learned from Barbara. Their hearts seemed to stop beating for a few moments. Their bodies tensed up as their faces paled."What?"The word just came out of Steve's mouth, as if representing the shock felt by his two colleagues. His eyes looked perfectly rounded, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.Although he was not in Ben's or Terry's shoes, Steve could feel what the two men were feelin

Chapter 61: AdviceBarbara was silent at the words that came out of Steve's mouth. The man seemed to have a flat expression. The line of his lips looked so straight, as if he had predicted that Steve would ask this. The man let out a long breath. Then immediately took back the canned beer from the table, gulping it all down in one go without sparing a drop."Why do you assume Kai is a bad guy?" Barbara asked back with a furrowed brow. The man threw the empty can into the trash by throwing it, exactly the same way Terry had done it earlier. Again, the sound of the can making contact with the trash can created quite a loud noise. Steve even covered his ears because the sound made by the can was too loud for him."I know because what he said was very suspicious," Steve said in a steady tone. He looked at his father with a straight gaze."And again, I feel that he has other intentions and wants to use me as his pawn," continued Steve, explaining what was in his head. His tone of voice

His gaze also changed, from friendly and unpretentious to a confident gaze with a hint of arrogance in it."Why are you asking like that?" asked Steve in a calm tone. His pupils scanned Daniel from top to bottom without exception, as if he were looking for an opening. This, of course, made Daniel feel uncomfortable. Whether it was his feelings or not, Daniel could feel that Steve had a very dominant aura, which was very different when he was still Minji's husband.Daniel also stared at Steve with a sharp gaze. A sardonic smile played on his lips. "You act like you're a great man with power." Steve furrowed his brow when he heard that sentence. This was outside the context of the previous conversation. Unconsciously, his mouth immediately said it in a low tone. "What do you mean?""You don't understand what

He was surprised that Terry was questioning him about his answers, which was something Terry rarely did to him. However, Steve felt uncomfortable with the tone of voice the man was using. Why did Terry seem to blame him? Was it wrong for him to want to gain knowledge that would make him better than he was before? What was really going on? Was there something he didn't know about X?Steve's focus shifted to Ben's cell phone, which had fallen to the floor, close to his feet. "Ben, your cell phone fell."Steve bent down to pick up Ben's cell phone. Steve could see that the screen was cracked, with lines running vertically across it. Once it was in his hands, he gave the phone to its owner."Here," Steve handed the phone to Ben, who was still staring at it blankly. "Be careful next time.
