Chapter Seventeen

Sir Frederick growled. "You deceived me, Doris…" His tone was stiff and gruff. "I selected your family because of the honor and dignity you possessed, but deceiving me this way…"

"Tsk…Tsk…" He sucked his teeth.

Madam Doris was uneasy, she felt so uncomfortable in her seat, it felt like little pins were sticking out and piercing the shit out of her. She bowed her head from him to avoid his gaze. Even though she was scared of how he might react, it was better to let him deal with Aidan before he ruined her.

Silence fell in the room and Frederick gritting and clenching his jaw could be heard until he talked finally.

"How could you let such a loser go scot-free to have so much power to threaten and blackmail you?" He strolled back to his cigar away from the window, picked up one, and lit it up.

Madam Doris finally spoke up as the atmosphere in the room became stuffy–not because of the smoke from the cigar but because she was uneasy from Sir Frederick's aura.
