Chapter Two

"Hahaha! I see, this was the plan all along to get rid of me right? Aidan chuckled weakly from being pinned to the floor. "You shouldn't have gone this far". He said weakly.

Madam Doris made a snap with her fingers to the policemen to raise Aidan to his knees. They obeyed like the lap dogs they were.

Aidan felt blood in his saliva because of the forced struggle he had with the police. He felt so much rage boiling inside but he was helpless. "I'm not signing the papers until I see my daughter! I will never divorce Erica! I won't let my name be rolled in the mud this way for something I had no hand in."

Madam Doris alongside her daughter Mallory laughed hysterically. "Name? What do you have attached to that useless name of yours? In terms of money, skills, and mastery, what have you offered huh?! Except for latching onto my useless daughter! You're as useless as a pen without ink" Madam Doris huffed and puffed indignantly.

"I demand my daughter Rachel be brought to me!" He said in a brazen tone.

Madam Doris's gaze shifted from bitterness to bewilderment. She was surprised that even in such a pathetic situation, Aidan still had the nerve to make demands. She was expecting Aidan to be groveling at her feet by now. But before she could say anything, Ethan, her favorite son-in-law, cuts in.

He snarled at Aidan. "You bloody fool! Do you honestly think that you're in a position to make demands?!" He barked and spat continuously.

With a furious roar, Erica yelled. "Sign the papers Aidan! I don't want anything to do with you anymore!" Deafening the whole room's atmosphere.

Aidan was fazed. Blood rushed in his head, he knew the family had despised him from the onset and always looked for ways to dispose of him but he never knew they would stoop this low to do that and Erica would be a part of the plan. Erica and his daughter were the one thing that held him back and was the only reason he put up with the ill-treatment he got from the family. But Erica screaming for him to sign the papers was something he never anticipated.

Madam Doris growled. "Good choice Erica." And with that, she flung a pen at Aidan. He looked up at his wife Erica and saw that her face was indifferent. Her eyes met with his and she looked away almost instantly.

He groaned and picked the pen up. The only hope he had was gone. There was no point in rotting in jail and not seeing his daughter too if Erica was in on the plot. He picked up the paper and signed it, sealing everything. He stood from his kneeling position and placed the paper on the couch.

"Where is my Rachel?" He asked grimly looking directly into Madam Doris's eyes. Something he had never done before but now there was no point in showing respect.

She snickered coldly, "Throw him in jail and let him rot there." Madam Doris gave the orders.

"What!" Both Erica and Aidan yelped.

Erica faced her Mom. "No! Mom this wasn't part of the plan. You said you just wanted him gone. He already signed, please just let him go."

Her mom didn't give a hoot. She stood and watched as the policemen dragged Aidan away like a filthy criminal. Aidan kicked, yelled, and dragged but was helpless. She grinned as the useless Aidan was finally dragged out of her family and her plan was set in motion.

"Mom, you promised you wouldn't hurt him. You said all you needed was him to sign and that was it." Erica pressed on but received a hot slap from her mother instead.

"If you ever dare to talk about him or mention his name again, I will disown you and this wedding will be over before it even begins!"

Erica held her cheeks and her mom hissed and walked out on her with Ethan following behind.

She turned to see her sister Mallory who was sneering at her.

"You should be thankful to Mom. If only you knew the great lengths she went to, to secure a marriage with Jeremy Clayton again after you ruined your first chances."

"You mean mom's first chances." She retorted. "You should marry Jeremy then if you want it so badly." She said, still massaging her red-hot cheek.

Jeremy Clayton was the heir to the Clayton family. A very powerful, wealthy, and revered family in the city. Erica was arranged in a marriage to him but she defiled her mom and married Aidan instead. But it seems her mom's antics secured another marriage all over again for her.

"I would kill to be married into the Clayton family." She crept closer to her sister's ears and whispered. "If I weren't married to Ethan, and you stood in my way of entering the Clayton family, I would step on you too to get my way." Erica gasped at her sister's words. She looked into her eyes and saw the emotionlessness that flickered in it.

"Then marry him" She was assertive.

Mallory condescendingly shook her head. "You're as sad as your worthless ex-husband and the foolish child you both spawned."

Erica snapped. "Don't patronize me, Mallory. Where is my daughter? Where did you keep her?!" She asked furiously.

"Let's just say your marriage with Jeremy Clayton will go smoothly without any interruptions." She said with a sinister slight curve on her lips.

She brushed her sister's shoulder roughly and went over to her husband who was done with their mom and left.

Aidan was rough-handled as soon as they got to the police station. The police spared no time in roughing him up following the orders of Madam Doris. They brought him into the interrogation room and forced false accusations down his throat but Aidan denied it and stood his ground.

They took his belongings, removed his jacket leaving him in only his shirt and trousers, and were about to throw him into one of the cells when the chief officer walked in because of the uproar he heard.

"What is the meaning of this unruliness in my station? He asked, his baritone voice commanding and authoritative.

The officers composed themselves immediately.

He looked over at Aidan and something caught his attention. He noticed a distinct beaded necklace on Aidan's neck identical to the one on a missing child report that was filed days before.

He pointed at it and asked Aidan. "What is that on your neck? How did you come about it?" He looked at him curiously.

Aidan kept mute as he didn't understand what he meant by that.

"Answer the questioning boy!" One of the officers yelled at him.

But the chief officer looked at the officer yelling with so much loathing that he kept his mouth mute instantly.

The officer turned to Aidan and demanded an answer from him.
