After Orion left the sidewalk that afternoon, leaving his companion behind. He naturally didn't notice that there was another figure who came to take his place a few minutes after he had just spoken with Kay Segreti.
‘What an interesting and dangerous young man!’ Kay Segreti thought to himself. ‘If anything, I admire his blind confidence in himself. No matter what, you will soon learn what it's like to be helpless in the face of absolute power.’
“Well, what did you find out?” A beautiful woman said as she appeared right beside Kay Segreti. She had an intense gaze, olive skin, and dark eyes dressed in a beautiful Navy blue sheath dress.
Her appearance was extremely eye-catching and made the entire surrounding dim in comparison. Some young male students couldn't help but stare while the female students looked at her with admiring eyes.
“The last 25 minutes I spent with that man was like having tea with a black panther.” Kay Segreti glanced at her before replying, then continued, “He has the physical bearing and inner self-confidence of an aristocrat shows that he is more than just a political idealist but a strategic thinker. You can even say he is quite the revolutionary” Kay Segreti said.
“Moreover, I see an implacability for which he cannot be had for any price. He has proven that he cannot be bargained with. And has shown that he will not cower at mere threats.”
The beautiful lady's eyes widened in shock as she said, “That's high praise, sir! Even from you.”
“But I did learn three interesting things from our conversation previously,” Segreti revealed.
“One, he has a mysterious backer with some serious political influence on the Bastion continent that could threaten us. And two, he doesn't want or need help from the Confederation of Nations but will take it if he has to as his words implied.”
“Three, we are weakened by our recent expenditures and he knows it. And that's where he plans to strike from.”
He took a pause and sighed, “My close observation of the crown prince of Eleftheria for the past few years has bore fruit and I can say now that he is a threat that cannot be allowed to gain more power.”
The beautiful woman chimed in and said, “So we are done with the psychological profiling of Orion Darkwood, the crown prince of Eleftheria. Now that we know how he thinks. We can make our plans accordingly.”
If Orion was here to hear those words, he would be shocked because the ‘us’ that man referred to as the nation he has taken up the cause again. And that was none other than Modena.
With all that, what could be the identity of this intelligent young man who took the initiative to engage Orion in a conversation about his cause for freedom?
“Come then! Let's return home. I need to report the result of my investigations to those old men. It will be quite amusing to hear what they have to say.” Kay Segreti mused.
…
The Capital Of Modena.
A week after Kay Segreti spoke with Kay Segreti in Victoris. On the top floor of a five-story quadrangular building with a large central atrium and over a thousand windows.
In an office with various shades of gray with harsh angles as accents, and cool-toned lights. There sat two individuals- a male and female- across from each other. The man was seen holding a piece of paper reading aloud the following words.
"We have received your report. From your findings, if he is as dangerous as you say. Then You need to deal with this as swiftly as possible. The atmosphere of the continent is stiff with the spark of rebellion and you must snuff out that spark before it catches fire. Hence, the young prince of Eleftheria cannot be allowed to reach the shores of Modena with his poisonous speeches of freedom. You are authorized to deploy Project Lángren!"
This was the directive that the Head of The Secretum Vigilum, Kay Segreti, was given as he sat behind his oak desk in the organization's headquarters in his office at a secret location after he read aloud to a very beautiful woman with an intense gaze, olive skin and dark eyes who was seated across his desk.
After he finished reading the message, the beautiful woman in front of him slightly frowned, and asked, “Why use Project Lángren? Don't you think those old men are being too extreme? I can understand the need for urgency in getting rid of the crown prince of Eleftheria because given a few more years, according to my calculations he will become the most dangerous and influential rallying force for a rebellion on the continent if he isn't already.
“However, using Project Lángren, an untested and unpredictable weapon for a covert operation that can be dealt with subtler means, is just overkill.”
Hearing her words, Kay Segreti calmly explained his thoughts about the directive as he answered.
“I don't think so. As you said, the crown prince of Eleftheria is a threat that cannot be allowed to grow further. And while Project Lángren is a bit extreme, it's also one of the best courses of action that puts the least amount of suspicion on us.
“Don't forget that the entire Bastion continent has its eyes on him. And for such a huge figure in the limelight, the cause of death by any means of assassination which can be fabricated to look natural or otherwise will make the other 5 nations suspect us.
He continued after a brief pause, “While we don't need to fear them due to our superior technological advancement in warfare as well as an unmatched military might on the Bastion continent. We still need to keep them subversive to protect our interests while we can intimidate one or two nations by using our ships to bombard strategic locations or just take out high-ranking officials in their governments as a show of strength.
“Our actions may draw the confederacy's attention as they won't just stand by and watch us do it since we would be breaching the terms of the Treaty of Metus. Besides, deploying troops to quench rebellions all over the continent burns a lot of resources that can be put to better use.
He further added, “Hence why Project Lángrén should be used for this mission after all it's one of our trump cards and its origins reside in myths and legends. So the results of this assassination should have no lasting negative effects on our national image.”
“Hmmm. You do have a point.” the beautiful woman agreed, “No matter what, this will shock the world. And that goes without saying that I'm still skeptical as to how our new secret weapon performs in its first mission. I shall tell the good doctor to prepare for its deployment.”
In a secret lab with rows of men in containment tubes numbered from one to fifty filled with water as a respirator covers their mouths and noses. A short and plump old man in his fifties could be seen looking at some charts on the computer as the lights from the screen reflected from the spectacles covering his small beady eyes.“Good morning, Doctor Octigenti. I hope you are putting to good use the huge funds that have been given for your pet project.” the beautiful woman with an intense gaze, olive skin, and dark eyes teased as she walked out from the elevator door that led to the lab. It was the only exit in and out of that secret facility and can only be accessed by an authorized personality with the highest level of clearance in Krypteia of which the beautiful woman was amongst.“Good morning, Vice-captain Deveraux. In the Morgue….After he had been discovered from his ship and his body retrieved back to Eleftheria, it was kept in a freezer at the morgue. Orion Darkwood was in a comatose state and was currently experiencing various scenes from his life. Right from childhood down to the moment his life was nearly taken from him. Though everyone including his father believed that he was dead and that normally, he should be buried right now. But according to Eleftherian customs, when a royal dies, their bodies are not hastily buried in the ground but preserved so that the people can pay their last respects to them. This process takes up to 14 days, and hence when the ceremonies are done, then and only then could they be buried. But right now, it was kept in the morgue as preparations are being made for the entire country to be able to view his face. Although the ceremony could be watched on TV, Eleftherians consider it rude to do that. Hence thousands of them would journey all over the country just
Still, in his Near Death state, Orion was experiencing another memory from his past. This time as a teenager. A thirteen-year-old Orion sat glued in front of the television at this moment, his eyes transfixed on the large screen as he watched a spectacular boxing match between two men, one in red trunks wearing black gloves and the other in blue trunks with white gloves. The voice of one of the four commentators who was sitting close to the boxing ring could be heard clearly from the large speakers on the television.“So far, both Forster and Cruiser have been evenly matched from the early rounds.”The names of the boxers in red and white boxing trunks were Forster and Cruiser respectively. He continued saying, “It's quite impressive that Forster has been able to go the distance with the much younger Cruiser. His stamina has been quite impressive due to his age. Being 36 years old, and still being able to move and trade shots like that with a 24-year-old takes a lot of heart.”The se
Since young, Orion has always harbored the dream of being a pugilist one day as well. Being a child who loved boxers which could be seen in his support for the former lightweight champion, Forster. This love for one of the most popular and oldest sport on the Bastion continent became a means of entertainment for Orion. Which is why his father wasn't too reluctant about him wanting to learn how to box after making his desire known, after all a nobleman must know how to defend himself. So Orion's three years training in the art of boxing began after witnessing that match. Later on as a young man, it was what became a coping mechanism for him and also made him a more focused and determined individual because Orion believed that without consistency and determination, it was hard to maintain top form as a boxer.……Perhaps it was important to have consistency and determination to succeed in any endeavor, but it was especially necessary to possess those qualities in boxing because it's a sp
‘The Devil's Nest’ as the name suggested wasn't just an underground club but it was also a nickname of gathering ground for some of Eleftheria's worst citizens. Orion's destination away from the palace was called the ‘Scarlet District’. Though it was situated in the capital of the country, it was lawless as most of the Eleftherian law enforcement officers tended to avoid this place. And it was also partially or perhaps fully because of the owner, Mr. Cole Green, who was not only someone with deep pockets but also a man of means with a wide web of influence. There are even rumors that he had some members of the Eleftherian government in his pockets. Though it was never confirmed but it is evident by the fact that the club had continued to exist in the capital of the country, where the palace and the seat of government was situated. At this moment, two tall figures could be seen approaching the entrance of the club side by side which was guarded by fierce looking and burly bouncers. I don't see a need why you have to see me directly as he could just enter the ring like any fighter that comes to this place, for a fee of course.”“There is a need of course,”Weber said as a matter of fact, “My fighter isn't here for the fame and money brought by the ‘Hotboxing’ event. He is just here to hone his skills, I fear that too much publicity now isn't good for him and could go to his head hence making him lose focus.”Weber paused as he looked straight into Mr. Green's small beady eyes from beneath his hat, “What I want exactly is a very private arena for my fighter. And I'm willing to pay quite handsomely for you to make that happen, Mr. Green. AWAKENINGCHAPTER 15THE AWAKENINGWhile his people and the rest of the continent mourned his death. Orion in his near-death state was undergoing some changes at this moment. The werewolf venom in his blood has circulated fully thereby causing more than a few transformations; his scar especially had started to heal after remaining dormant for quite a while. The wounds had started closing at a rate invisible to the eye that anyone who had witnessed it would have been shocked at the impossibility of such a thing occurring after all the fatal injuries suspected to have taken the life of someone presumed dead for days had already started to heal.At this moment. The eyelids of Orion had begun to flutter and what had happened to him a few days ago seemed no more than a distant memory. His reverie into the past had seemed so real to him that it felt like he was like an outsider in his mind experiencing the memories of what he had lived through. With a foggy mind.
